See You In September! Hope to “See You In September” to paint this unique ornament designed by Charter Member, Lois Eckert. This would be another good project to bring a friend, neighbor, co-worker, or family member and introduce them to decorative painting. Please bring the supplies listed for them if you do. We will first etch the ornament, then we will paint it. The surface will be provided by PWP. Bring the “suggested” colors used by Lois or similar colors. Go through your paint supply and pick some colors that will make a nice Christmas tree as seen in the photo. If you want different color ornaments or packages, bring a “color of choice” for them. Be creative and make this your own. It will be nice to see all the different trees when we take the picture.

Paint-Ins Memory BoxesOn July 19, 2016, Dottie Shultz delivered 24 memory boxes to Pin-nacleHealth Harrisburg Hospital. This makes 62 boxes delivered to PinnacleHealth Harrisburg Hos-pital so far this year. We currently have 57 painted Memory Boxes. I will have patterns and boxes at the September meeting. Dottie Shultz and Judy Vetock will be teach-

ing the Memory Box Paint-In on February 18, 2017. I am look-ing forward to seeing Dottie’s original design. Please varnish your boxes before handing them in. Also, please write “memoryboxes.org” on the bottom of the boxes in permanent marker. It’s best to

spray over the perma-nent marker with Krylon Matte Finish 1311 to set the marker before us-ing brush-on varnish. Thanks for participating

in this worthwhile Community Service project.

President’s Message

I want to say thanks to Joyce Guti-errez for teaching the beautiful Tulips painting on August 20th. We had a great turnout and the project was surprisingly easy and fun to do! Thanks to Debby Thorpe for providing munchies and drinks. I love all of the help we give to each other. On October 15th, the next Paint-In will be taught by Fran Huffman. She will be teaching us how to paint faux tiles, which is a design by Tracey Moreau. The cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. You must provide your own surface, supplies and lunch. The sug-gested surface is flat wood, such as a tray, and the size should measure 18”x12” or 14”x9”. The registra-tion deadline is Sep-tember 30th. Thanks Melissa Crowther

Dear PWP members, I hope ev-eryone is enjoying the summer and staying cool. So excited about our upcoming programs and plans for the rest of the year. Please sing our praises to your neighbors, friends and co-workers, ask them to just come to one event and we know they will not want to miss joining us. We are the cool kids and every-one wants to play with us. A huge shout out to Pat Meyers. We are still praying for her speedy recov-ery, and so appreciative of all Carol

Henry is doing to keep our ship on course. Painting has been such an important part of our history and culture. There is such an enormous genre to choose from, oils, watercolors, acrylics, chalks, and now the new rage, colored pen-cils. Let’s keep our vision clear and continue to venture into all venues. We will even be doing some etching soon with Lois, so spread the word, and get new folks involved. With such a wonderful and pro-

ductive year as we are ex-periencing, we really need you to look internally at your ability to provide sup-port to our Chapter. Please consider taking a chair, or office. Maybe even buddy

up with a friend, two heads can make a job half the work. We need your talent. So please volunteer, or accept a nomination to serve. You are the best and the best is yet to come. Let’s go painting.

The board has been advised of some recent issues resulting from not having storage space. It is quite inconvenient to lug our camera equipment, kitchen sup-plies and other chapter materials, and transferring them if someone is not going to be available when materials are needed. Therefore the board is looking at alternate locations, but will continue our relationship with Messiah. I just wanted to let you know that we are working to make the right choices for our Chapter. We will continue to keep the membership aware of our progress. Thanks again for your support and under-standing.

2016 Ways and MeansHello PWP Members,September’s meeting is look-ing like a fun time and for me a learning experience, since I have never etched glass before. I’m very excited about it. Ways and Means is having a “must go” sale and our usual 50/50 drawing. We will also have several items for silent auction, a “post” angel painted by Ginger Edwards and several other items done by “BIG BRUSHES”, so bring your painting supplies and your money. If you have ever wanted to own artwork done by a “big brush”, this is your chance. See you at the September meeting. Hugs,

We currently have art for display at Messiah Village for the month of September. If you didn’t get to participate, we will be displaying again in December. Last Decem-ber we did wonderful selling our artwork…it seemed that a lot of people were shopping for Christ-mas gifts.

Nominating Committee ReportWe are disappointed that at the time of publication, we do not have a complete slate. Without your participation, our chapter is in danger of being disbanded. Our chapter needs some new blood to step up and bring some new ideas to our chapter. The same group has been swapping Officer posi-tions for years now. We don’t want

to disband or merge with another chapter, do we? So, please con-sider stepping forward in support of your Chapter. For 2017, we need a President, Vice President of Programs, and Vice President of Membership. Barb Lehman and Dee DeLorenzo are willing to serve a second year as Secretary and Treasurer.

Penns Woods Painters Paint-In Registration Form

ELECTED OFFICERS 1. The elected officers of this chapter shall be President, Vice President of Programs, Vice President of Membership, Secretary and Treasurer.

2. The term of office shall be one year. No officer may hold the same office for more than two consecutive full terms.

3. Duties and officers shall be as follows: Penns Woods Painters BYLAWS FOR A CHAPTER OF THE SOCIETY OF DECORATIVE PAINTERS

a. The President shall preside at meetings of the chapter and meetings of the Board of Directors; shall be a member ex-officio of all committees, with the exception of the nominating committee, shall sign checks in the absence of the trea-surer; and shall perform such other duties as usually pertain to the office. The President shall be responsible to see that all required reports and correspondence are sent to the Society Office.

b. The Vice President of Programs shall preside in the absence of the President; shall assist the President; and shall serve as the Coordinator of Programs.

c. The Vice President of Membership shall serve as the Coordinator of Membership.

d. The Secretary shall record minutes of all meetings of the chapter and of the Board of Directors. These minutes shall be kept as the property of the chapter, and shall be a complete and clear record of activities. The Secretary shall provide a copy of the minutes of meeting to the Society office. The Secretary shall provide a copy of minutes from Board Meetings to the President to be sent to the Society Office with the Annual Report.

e. The Treasurer shall receive all monies of the chapter, shall keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, pay all bills upon approval of the Board of Directors, present a statement of account at every meeting of the chapter and when requested by the Board of Directors, and shall prepare a complete report at the end of the calendar year. The Treasurer shall provide a copy of the report to the President to be sent to the Society Office with the Annual Report.
