TODAY’S WEATHER HIGH: 89 LOW: 71 Bryan Clauson 1989-2016 The family of Indy 500 veteran and USAC champion driver Bryan Clauson released the following statement Monday morning: "Last night, the 7th of August, we said goodbye to our son, my fiancé, our friend, Bryan Clauson. He was surrounded by family and friends and we were grateful that we could experience his final moments with him. Our Bryan fought to the end with the same desire that he demonstrated behind the wheel of all the various race cars he would park in victory lane. However, we were more proud of our Bryan that took a moment to make a young fan's day, or demonstrated his uncommon kindness and appreciation toward his friends, family and fans. We would like to thank everybody who has shown their concern toward us and kept us in their prayers. We will never be able to truly thank you. We would also like to thank the staff at Bryan Medical Center who stood and fought with our Bryan since he arrived here early yesterday morning. We know that our Bryan is also your Bryan and that you would like to participate in honoring him. A service will be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at a date and time to be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, or to make a donation, people may direct their contributions to the USAC Benevolent Fund website at http://usacbf.org/cash- donation/ or checks should be made out to the USAC Benevolent Foundation in the name of Bryan Clauson. The address is 124 E Northfield Drive, Suite F #129, Brownsburg, IN 46112. Thank you for being a part of our Bryan's life. Lauren, Tim, Di, and Taylor." Statement from Bryan Clauson’s family Bryan Clauson could race anything, at any track - from the dirt tracks where he became a champion to the Indianapolis Mo- tor Speedway. The Noblesville driver proved that last May, when he had his best Indianapolis 500 finish in the afternoon of May 29 and drove a sprint car to the feature victory at Kokomo Speedway that night. Clauson, 27, died Sunday evening from injuries sustained in a crash the night before at the Belleville (Kansas) Nationals midget race on the half-mile dirt oval. Clauson was airlifted to Bryan Medical Center in Lin- coln, Neb., but did not survive. Clauson was born in Carmichael, Calif. on June 15, 1989 and got his start in Quarter Midgets at age 5. Even at that young of an age, his talent was evident - as an 8-year- old, he won 30 races. By the time he turned 10 in 1999, Bryan had won over 200 Quar- ter Midget races. Clauson and his family moved to No- blesville in 1999, and he graduated from Noblesville High School in 2007. But he had already started on his path to stardom long before then. When he was 14, Clauson moved to the Sprint cars, and in 2004 won six events and was named Rookie of the Year at the Lawrenceburg and Bloomington speedways. On June 9, 2004, six days before turning 15, Clauson won his first USAC feature race. He was victorious in the Kenyon Midget race that night at the Indianapolis Speedrome, the first of three wins at that track in 2004. He would go on to win at least one USAC feature a year through 2016. Clau- son's most prolific year was 2013, when he triumphed in 22 USAC races, from loca- tions as varied as Perris, California to Oca- la, Florida. Clauson's final USAC feature win was on Aug. 3, at Beloit, Wisconsin. He totaled 112 career USAC wins, placing him fifth on the all-time list. Clauson's sudden passing not only shocked and saddened the racing communi- ty, but Noblesville and the state of Indiana as well. "Our thought and prayers are with the family and friends of Bryan Clauson," said Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear. "The world knew him as a talented driver, but off the track he was an even better person. Bryan lived and was raised in Noblesville and represented our city well whenever he was away. He brought so much joy to our community as we watched him grow through the driving ranks and participates in some of the sport's biggest races. His presence and humble smile will be missed." “Karen and I were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Noblesville’s Bryan Clauson," said Indiana Governor Mike Pence. "He was a tremendous competitor and his incredible talent was evident, from the Hoosier state’s many short tracks to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “He was deeply respected by his fellow competitors and beloved by his family. As we pause to honor the passing of a Hoosier racing champion, let us keep the Clauson family and his fiancée, Lauren, in our thoughts and prayers.” “A true ambassador for all motor sports” Bryan Clauson was a champion, winning hundreds of races in his career. But he always had time for his fans (below). Kent Graham/File photos

The Hamilton County Traffic Safety Partnership an-nounced today its participation in the national and state-wide 2016 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcementmobilization occurring August 12 through September 52016 The Traffic Safety Partnership is a consortium of lawenforcement agencies in Hamilton County including Car-mel Police Cicero Police Fishers Police Noblesville Po-lice Westfield Police and Indiana State PoliceDepartments along with the Sheriffrsquos Office working toincrease the usage of seatbelts to combat aggressive driv-ing and to decrease impaired driving with the overall goalof creating a safer Hamilton County Officers will joinmore than 250 state and local law enforcement agenciesand thousands more across the country to conduct high-visibility patrols encouraging drivers against drinkingand driving

ldquoEnsuring drivers and their passengers are safe on theroad is one of our key prioritiesrdquo stressed Hamilton Coun-ty Sheriff Mark Bowen ldquoThis campaign allows us theopportunity to remind everyone behind the wheel thatdriving intoxicated is against the law We will be out in fullpatrol and chances are if you drive impaired we will pullyou overrdquo

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over is an annual enforce-ment effort supported by federal funding allocated to theHamilton County Traffic Safety Partnership from the Traf-fic Safety division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute(ICJI) Officers from agencies across the county will workovertime to conduct sobriety patrols and checkpointsaround the clock According to ICJI in 2015 there were4828 alcohol-impaired collisions in Indiana resulting in92 fatalities This is a 265 percent decrease in the number

of alcohol-impaired collisions and a 9 percent decrease inresulting fatalities from 2014

ldquoWhile this decrease in alcohol-impaired collisions andfatalities means wersquore on the right track therersquos still roomfor improvementrdquo said ICJI Director Dave Murtaugh ldquoInan effort to ensure our roads are safe at every turn we willcontinue increase Indianarsquos education and enforcement onimpaired drivingrdquo

Indiana law enforcement agencies have been activelyinvolved in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaignfor over 20 years

For more information regarding the Drive Sober or GetPulled Over enforcement mobilization campaign pleasevisit httpwwwnhtsagovdrivesober

ldquoDrive Sober or Get Pulled Overrdquo

The Hamilton County Traffic Safety Partnership will con-duct a sobriety checkpoint on the night of Saturday Aug 13 andthe early hours of Sunday Aug 14

At a sobriety checkpoint law enforcement officers evaluatedrivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment at a specifiedpoint along the roadway often depending upon the support oflocal property owners for the use of appropriate land Check-point sites are selected based upon analysis of available crashand impaired driving arrest data and a consideration of officersafety

Vehicles are stopped in a specific sequence such as everyother vehicle every third vehicle every fourth vehicle or bystopping three four or five cars in succession and allowing othertraffic to proceed while checking the stopped vehicles Theplanned sequence in which vehicles are stopped depends on the

number of officers available to staff the checkpoint trafficcongestion and other safety concerns

Upon making contact with the driver the officer advisesthem that theyve been stopped at an HCTSP sobriety checkpointand asks for the drivers license and the vehicles registration Ifin the course of the contact the officer detects that alcohol maybe involved and that the driver may be impaired or if some otherissue arises then the vehicle is directed into a pull-off area forfurther investigation Further investigation may involve the Stan-dardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) On the other hand if alllooks right during the initial contact the driver is often on his orher way in less than two minutes

Officers staffing the sobriety checkpoints work on an over-time basis paid by grant funds from the National HighwayTraffic Safety Administration through the Indiana GovernorrsquosCouncil on Impaired and Dangerous Driving

Sobriety checkpoint scheduled for this weekend
