DOMINATING IN T20 CRICKET NATIONALLYNATIONAL COCA-COLA SCHOOLS’ T20 CRICKET FINALS: STELLENBOSCH: 24-26 MARCH 2017

The tournament consisted of six franchise cricket sides, together with teams from an inland school and a coastal focus school, making up two pools of four sides.

We lost to Glenwood (Dolphins) and beat both Centurion (Titans) and St Andrews Bloem (Knights) with bonus points, to head up our pool.

We played Wynberg (Cobras) in the semi-final and beat them, in a thrilling encounter, by one run. This gained us a place in the final against St Stithians, the reigning champions and the SA number one ranked side. We unfortunately lost by 8 wickets in the final.

Akhona Mnyaka won the Hero-of-the-Tournament Award; Jason Niemand won Man-of-the-Match Awards against Glenwood and Centurion; Brad Mauer won Man-of-the-Match against St Andrews and Sine Qeshile won the Man-of-the-Match Award against Wynberg.

The team flew to Cape Town and were accommodated at the Protea Techno-Park Hotel, Stellenbosch, with expenses funded by Cricket South Africa.

Hudson Park returned to East London as runners-up in a National Tournament. This is an amazing achievement for any school and particularly a co-ed school.

He is an extremely committed pupil and has, over the years, excelled beyond expectation. He is balanced and continuously strives for greatness.

He represents everything a true Hudsonian stands for. Should you wish to assist financially towards Thando’s expenses, please contact [email protected] for further information.

Thando’s talents are not limited to his debating and also include a particular aptitude for accounting. He came 3rd in the Eastern Cape and 1st on the Border in the NMMU Accounting Olympiad.

Once again, the COE Conference was one of the best organized and most impactful of the many seminars and conferences that school principals are able to attend. This event, for representatives from the top 100 schools in South Africa which in the eyes of the Allan Gray Foundation best demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset, took place in the Royal Bafokeng Kingdom, close to Rustenburg.

The Selection process applied to potential Fellows looks for the ‘spirit of significance, achievement excellence, intellectual imagination, personal initiative and courageous commitment’. Furthermore, all applicants are expected to exhibit an entrepreneurial attitude and a belief in the future of their country.

GRADE 8 ORIENTATIONGrade 8 learners were warmly welcomed during a week of activities designed to make them feel at home and to introduce them to the numerous opportunities, in all four Pillars, which are open to them at Hudson Park. Our new Grade 8’s

participated in many fun activities which took place with our Prefects.

CANDLE LIGHTING CEREMONY Our traditional Candle-Lighting Ceremony is held each year to impress upon Grade 8 learners the importance of unity, the sharing of

knowledge, and the nurturing of the wonderful potential inherent in each of us. In a hushed gathering in the Centenary Hall, few hearts remained untouched as our head boy and head girl, having lit their candles from the Founders’ Day Torch, proceeded to light those held by the prefects. It was then the turn of the prefects to light the candles of the Grade 8 learners, and they slowly made their way,

from the front of the Hall to the back, until the Hall was filled with the flickering glow of over 200 tiny flames. The moment will long be remembered by all who attended.
