    The Story (what we do and why)

    Intervention Plan:

    Agriculture accounts for 32% (AVRDC report 2005) of Bangladeshs gross domestic prod

    Agriculture, 2009) of the countrys labor force. Quality seed is a critical input for farmer

    in providing seed to farmers. In addition approximately 8000 (Comprehenechive Cross

    operate across the country.

    Recent trends indicate a shift towards the production of high yielding varieties (HYV) of

    most essential input for vegetable farmers. Vegetable production is highly correlated wi

    seed could increase yield by as much as 10-15%(Comprehenechive Cross Sector Strateg

    still very limited in Bangladesh, and according to the Ministry of Agriculture only 18% (P

    requirement for seeds for 2008-09 was supplied by the public and private sector. The rlower-quality seed retained by farmers. Therefore to increase the productivity of vegeta

    quality seed through developing the vegetable seed sector in Bangladesh.

    The development of Bangladesh seed sector is deterring by a number of constraints. O

    operating, while the majorities are small businesses trading in seed of dubious quality in

    seed often have lack of source of good quality hybride vegetable seed, inadequate know

    (OP & Hybrid) , lack of knowledge and skill of stock seed and F1seed production.
