WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

GLUE-LAMINATED (GLULAM)

- a modified solid wood in which the weakening influence of growth-related defects has been largely cancelled out.

- composed of at least three sheets of softwood timber glued under pressure, parallel lo the grain, to create stable building elements

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

TYPES OF GLUE:

Urea-formaldehyde resin (UF)

Melamine modified urea-formaldehyderesin (MUF)

Phenol resorcinol resin (PRF)

Polyurethane (PU)

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

GLUED LAMINATED BEAMS

- are solid, flat, building elements. They are composed of layers of boards or planks connected to each other with nails or hardwood drift bolts.

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

LAMINATED VENEER LUMBER (LVL)

- an engineered timber composite manufactured by laminating wood veneers using exterior-type adhesives.

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

LAMINATED STRAND LUMBER (LSL)

- is produced from strands of wood, up to 300 mm in length and 30 mm in width, or species combinations blended with a polyurethane-based adhesive.

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

PARALLEL STRAND LUMBER (PSL)

The manufacturing process involves peeling small-diameter logs into veneer sheets. The veneers are then dried to a moisture content of 2–3% and then cut into thin long strands oriented parallel to one another

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

ORIENTED STRAND BOARD (OSB)

an engineered structural board manufactured from thin wood strands, flakes or wafers sliced from small-diameter round timber logs and bonded with an exterior type adhesive (comprising 95% wood, 5% resin and wax) under heat and pressure

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

THIN WEBBED JOISTS (I-JOISTS)

I-joists are structurally engineered timber joists comprising flanges made from solid timber or LVL and a web made from OSB, plywood or particleboard. The flanges and web are bonded together to form an I-section member, a structurally efficient alterative to conventional solid timber

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

BOARDS

Unplaned softwood boards and planks are parallel square-edged materials.

Planed softwood boards and planks are planed smooth on one side and processed to an even thickness on the back, The edges are neither planed nor profiled.

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

BOARDS

Matched boards are boards with grooves and planed tongues.

Rectangular Wooden Dowels

used as joints & fasteners subject to shearing stress

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

Rectangular Steel Anchor

Inserted into recesses across the grain, held with splices & secured with locking bolts

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

Bolts

Bolts are pin-shaped fasteners made of round steel with heads, threads and nuts; they are driven into drilled holes with a maximum diameter 1 mm greater than their own, with washers on each side

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

Nail Plates

These are 1-2 mm thick steel sheets with nail or claw-shapes punched and bent out on one or both sides.

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

Angle Connectors

- a perforated plate angle or from punched sheet used for connecting and fastening

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

Rafter-to-purlin Connectors/purlin Anchors

- use for connecting crossing beams.

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

Track anchors/profile anchors/wood connection anchors

- use to fasten wooden elements into anchor tracks or with steel profiles

WOOD CONSTRUCTION:

Pillar Bases

Pillar bases (pillar bracket, post holder) serve to connect the pillar with the foundation or the ceiling. The connection is made by fixing base plates & dowels onto the concrete or by using ribbed rock dowels & grouting in the recesses in the concrete.
