The aim of this programme is to enable teachers and school leaders to use evidence about effective teaching and learning to inform the strategies that are utilised in their classroom or school, in order to develop excellent practice and ensure that all pupils achieve excellent outcomes.
The programme will run over a series of session. Sessions will use leading writing and research to examine effective teaching and learning, considering the implications for classroom practice. This will include how pupils learn and how memory works according to findings from cognitive psychology, common myths about learning, and the principles for instruction advocated by leading research. Participants will have an opportunity to evaluate their own practice and how this can be improved. Finally, the programme will consider how to become a research-engaged teacher or school going forward.

Intervention marking is a system which entails intervening with children at the point of learning, monitoring their understanding and intervening to: support, consolidate, accelerate or challenge. It is an approach which can be adapted to suit any school context.
During this morning session, there will be an opportunity to share current marking and feedback practice. Intervention Marking will then be outlined, where practical ‘tips’ for ‘how’ to intervene will be shared. Work samples of Intervention Marking will also be distributed, discussing the effectiveness of this approach. There will then be an opportunity to practise using this approach. Practical suggestions for rolling out Intervention Marking across your own school will then be given, ensuring that it will work for your context.
ϭϳ
Questioning Techniques
Effective questioning allows teachers & TAs to check students’ knowledge and understanding. It also benefits the learner by engaging them in and focusing them on key concepts and ideas. This training opportunity provides colleagues with the resources and tools to effectively question students to develop them as learners. Time will be given to colleagues to explore the work of Bloom, Dalton and Sousa to allow practitioners to return to their setting with ideas that they can put into practice.
Dates: Please see separate flyer. Both half day courses will take place on the same day, an AM and a PM session, to give delegates the option of either attending 1 course or combining both to form a full day course.
