Bubble boats

Aim

We wanted to find out if a small boat could be powered by gas made by baking soda and vinegar together . We did two different experiments to see if we could get ours going.

METHOD: 1

We got a bottle and put a x in it and a straw in the x then we put hot glue around the x to seal it. We put vinegar and baking soda in it, shook it up with our finger over the straw and put it in the pool.

METHOD: 2

We got a bottle and put a x in it and a straw in the x then we put hot glue around the x to seal it. We put vinegar and baking soda in it, shook it up with our finger over the straw and put it in the pool. We used popsicle sticks to make skis and glued them to the bottom of the boat to make it stable.

WHICH BOAT DO YOU THINK WORKED THE BEST?

BOAT 1 BOAT 2

YES

The second boat worked better than the first boat. This was because we put skis on it which kept it stabilised. More vinegar and more baking soda might make it more powerful but it was already quite difficult to get the lid on in time to trap the gas inside.
