Buckley Youth Center Makes a Difference!
Supporting the Buckley Youth Activity Center
Partnerships Make It Possible The Youth Center, built in 2008 through a Community Develop-
ment Block Grant to the City of Buckley, funding support from the
Pierce County Council, and community donations, continues to
thrive because of community partnerships and grant support.
The City of Buckley provides a large portion of staff-
ing expenses, oversees staff and provides building
maintenance. Police & Fire Dept. personnel interact
with our youth and invite us to visit their facilities.
We appreciate the support of Councilman
Dan Roach and the Pierce County Council
who allocates our largest funding source, the Pierce County Youth
Violence Prevention grant ($22,780 awarded for 2018).
The School District provides lunches to kids
of all ages during the summer months, a
building for our Bicycle Co-Op and invites
our Youth Center staff to attend staff in-service workshops.
Local Organizations & Businesses
We are grateful for the many business and organization partners
that support our work: Buckley Eagles, Buckley Library & Friends of
the Library, Community Presbyterian Church, Buckley Kiwanis
Club, Molen Orthodontics, Foothills Historical Museum, Mother 2
Many Outreach, EastPoint Church, Columbia Bank, Mount Rainier
Christian Center, Buckley Senior Center, East Pierce Fire & Res-
cue, Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, TPC Health Dept.
and the WR Families First Coalition were partners in 2017.
Donor Giving
Community and business
support is essential to the
success of the Center.
Over $10,400 was raised at
our 2017 annual benefit “It’s
A Spring Fling Kinda Thing”
supporting BYAC programs.
Paddles were raised for an
additional $2,550 to provide
field trips for our youth.
Year-round fundraisers with
United Way, Fred Meyer
Rewards and Amazon Smile
earned $1,350 in 2017.
$5,163 was donated for des-
ignated programs and
events and the community
contributed $19,100 in non-
monetary in-kind donations.
Serving Youth
Since 2008
The Buckley Youth
Activity Center is
celebrating its 10th
anniversary in 2018!
Our core daily drop-in
program provides a
safe, supervised and
welcoming place for
White River School
District youth ages 8 to
18 to interact. This
program serves 15 to
30 youth per day
during the school year
and 30 to 60 youth per
day in the summer.
During drop-in, youth
can have snacks and
just hang out, or utilize
the computer lab,
sports equipment, be
creative with art
supplies, enjoy board
and electronic games,
play pool or jam on
guitars or piano.
Academic tutoring is
offered twice a week at
the Center to improve
school success.
Families receive social
support, resources,
hygiene items and
school supplies on-site
through White River
Community Outreach.
Meaningful Activities From cooking and sewing classes to Cosplay and ukulele lessons, the
Youth Center offers activities and events for all interests and abilities.
Stop by and be original on Messy Mondays and Tuesday’s Creative
Lab or improvise during Guitar Jam Session on Fridays!
STEM-focused summer camps include a variety of math camps, space
exploration and computer coding camp.
Get fit while having fun
and mastering new tricks
at summer skateboard
camp or challenge
yourself on game days.
Hungry? Every Wednesday is Snack Shack where kids can learn about
nutrition and make healthy snacks to enjoy with friends. Free lunches
are provided on non-school days and in the summer months.
Learn bicycle maintenance, mechanics and
cycling safety or earn a refurbished bike
through the Buckley Bicycle Co-Op program.
The whole family can enjoy Summer Family
Fun Days where entertainers, engaging and
interactive presentations, water fun day, and
tie-dye are in the lineup.
Don’t miss our big annual events like Summer Kick-Off, Movie in the
Park, Feast with Friends and National Night Out!

What’s New in 2018? Social emotional development themes
are being woven into our program by
BYAC staff. Academic tenacity,
competent decision making and social
problem solving will foster
interpersonal skills and promote
independence while global awareness
and culture provide a platform for
humanitarianism and inclusion.
