     The main re safety systems installed within the Burj Khalifa are the sprinkler systems,

    '&t#mti% Sprinkler System 

     The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is outtted with an&t#mti% sprinkler system

    ; its main taskis to control the sread of the re. !ssistin" in re safety is the re resistant construction. The skyscraer#s comosition rotects surroundin" $oors% rest &ones% mechanical areas%

    and ha&ardous areas from the other areas around it.

    • Srinkler system is ro'ided for the entire Tower% (odium% D) * +) areas.

    • E(press risers are in ,echanical * (lumbin" closets of Center core of the buildin" which

    feeds water to Srinkler * Standie risers.

    di-erent le'els to indicate the $ow of the system.

    • Standie systems are a series of ie which connect a water suly to hose connections.

     They are desi"ned to ro'ide a pre+pipe! ter system for buildin" occuants.

      M&lti+lrm sens#rs that include smoke% heat and

    otical sensors are located in all rooms throu"houtthe buildin". The system will immediately notify

    occuants in the area throu"h an emer"ency

    'oice2alarm communication.• 2#i%e lrm spekers are also bein" ro'ided to

    all areas within the Burj Dubai% includin" the

    residential and hotel units. These will ro'ide test%alert and e'acuation messa"es in both !rabic and

    n"lish.

    •  The tyical area of refu"e will ha'e "re rte! e(it stirs closed o- by doors to counter

    the sread of smoke. !lso% the areas of refu"e are desi"ned to connect to 'arious

    stairwells. This means that occuants can be directed down the safest ath% and willalmost ne'er be traed. !s usual% the areas of refu"e are encased in re resistant

    concrete% are well 'entilated% and can be lit by emer"ency li"hts

    • Since the towers are each 33 stories hi"h% it is ine4cient in terms of money% sace% and

    time to ha'e sin"le ele'ators tra'elin" directly from the bottom to the to of the buildin".

     This romted the builders to desi"n -i)-+spee! !#&.le+!e%k ele$t#rs.• ! !#&.le+!e%k, m%-ine r##m+less ele$t#r system has two ele'ator cabs attached%

    with one on to of the other. This desi"n allows assen"ers on consecuti'e $oors to use theele'ators at the same time% which increases caacity and reduces wait times

    •  The min .nk  of ele'ators is located in the center of each tower. !ll main ele'ators

    are double5decker with the lower deck of the ele'ator takin" assen"ers to #!!

    • CCT relies on strte)i% pl%ement #4 %mers and pri$te #.ser$ti#n #4 t-e

    %mer8s inp&t on monitors. The cameras% monitors and2or 'ideo recorders communicate

    across a rorietary coa9ial cable run or wireless communication link. !ccess to data

    transmissions is limited by desi"n.

    System

    comanies. The hub of the system is a %entrl tele%#mm&ni%ti#ns #9%e 3CTO5, which ser'es as

    a local communications e9chan"e and "ateway to the outside world. The CT also enablestenants to access 'arious 'alue added ser'ices such as $i!e# %#n4eren%in), ele%tr#ni%

    connections from the main subscriber distribution frame to the end user usin" a bre5oticnetwork.

    ELECTRIC'L SYSTEM IN HIGH RISE BUILDINGCase Study: Burj Khalifa

    p#er+-n!lin) e:&ipment n! &tili0ti#n e:&ipment.• 6n the rst cate"ory% we include conductors and raceways of all tyes; in the second%

    transformers% switchboards% anel boards% lar"e switches and circuit breakers; and in thelast cate"ory utili&ation e/uiment such as li"htin"% motors% controls and wirin" de'ices.

    •  The ro'ided ))k' ser'ices enter 'ia under"round concrete en%se! !&%t.nk s into the

    buildin" by the Dubai lectricity and ro'ide ower to the trns4#rmers to roduce ower. Due to the e9treme heat andhumidity% the transformer rooms are air conditioned and ha'e 'entilation fans as back5u

    in case of emer"encies.

    to heat the incomin" water before transferrin" to

    multile tanks within the tower.0ocal electric heaters are desi"ned to heat thereturnin" water from the riser rior to reachin" the

    tanks.

    the water stora"e tanks located at multile le'els in

    the buildin". The domestic cold and hot water

    systems will consist of a )r$ity+4ee! system fromthe ele'ated water stora"e tanks and will ro'ide

    re/uirin" cold and hot water.

    handlin" units ro'ide fresh air to the fan coil units located at each $oor. 9haust

    fans% ressuri&ation fans% chilled water ums and electrical substations are locatedin the mechanical &ones.

    •  The mechanical rooms of the burj khalifa is a se'en double storey area that houses

    the ele%tri%l s&.+stti#ns, ter tnks n! p&mps, ir+-n!lin) &nits% that

    are essential for the oeration of the tower and the comfort of its occuants.

    •  The comle9 air5conditionin" system in Burj Khalifa

    uses >) miles 7?@ km8 of ies. These transortwater throu"h the basement where it is chilled. The tower#s air conditionin"

    relies on an i%e+pr#!&%ti#n system.

    •  This air conditionin" system was desi"ned to take ad'anta"e of

    %#l!er ir t -i)-er ltit&!es. This system catures cool

    air near the to of the buildin" and in turn ums this coolercleaner air to warmer $oors below.

    ;ter C##lin) System

    • Coolin" water for the comle9 is ro'ided by %entrl plnts l#%te! #< site. Two

    incomin" lines from di-erent central lants are ro'ided.• Due to the e9treme temerature% the central lants ha'e i%e st#r)e to allow

    emer"ency coolin" for selected e/uiment. The district chilled water is routed to

    heat e(%-n)er stti#ns located on the Concourse 0e'el. ach heat e9chan"er

    station will include m&ltiple plte n!+4rme -et e(%-n)ers n! p&mps.Aisers ser'in" the tower residential and hotel fan coils are ied in a re'erse return

    system.
