Desktop-as-a-Service (Daas)Case Study: Kirin Techno-System

Kirin Techno-System (KTS) is a leader in technology for the inspection of containers. Since becoming independent in 1990, they’ve shipped over 3,000 inspection devices to customers in a variety of industries, including beverage, container, and medical-device manufacturers.

The Challenge

In the past, KTS deployed traditional desktop computers as needed, and as a result, operations related to operating environments and updates were varied and complex. This meant that maintenance and quick response to failure were challenging. The company’s security policy also prohibited users from bringing computers to meetings where alcohol would be served. Policies like this were enacted to safeguard sensitive data, but sales personnel expressed concerns that they might be missing out on important business opportunities, as many meetings in their industry are held over drinks.

The Solution

KTS decided to deploy a virtualized desktop environment that allowed online file access rather than requiring data to be saved on individual computers. This DaaS solution would allow KTS to reduce initial investment costs and keep deployment issues to a minimum. In an effort to support operational stability, KTS wanted to choose a vendor that provided the ability to integrate with their Information System Section. Fujitsu’s proven track record and the support capabilities of its full-time operational staff made them the clear choice for KTS. As an added bonus, Fujitsu also offered the ability to make comprehensive proposals backed by one-stop support. Disaster Recovery Case Study: U.S. Auto Sales

U.S. Auto Sales is a network of used-car dealerships specializing in the sale of pre-owned, higher-end vehicles for customers who cannot obtain financing through traditional means.

The Challenge

In the wake of an ice storm that paralyzed the southeastern United States for several days, U.S. Auto Sales was unable to open their collections-processing office. Unable to collect payments on many of its 20,000 accounts, they saw a critical need for immediate disaster recovery. “At the time of that storm, customers had to either call or visit a store location to make a payment. We can never be in a situation where we have customers who are willing to pay us money and we cannot accept it,” said Travis McKeone, director of IT and Facilities at U.S. Auto Sales. And for a business where razor-thin profit margins are the norm, every customer counts. IT needed to find a solution that would ensure that nothing like this would ever happen again.

The Solution

U.S. Auto Sales gained the ability to redistribute collection services during a disaster by deploying vCloud Air Network cloud provider Cirrity’s virtual desktops. With 15 locations and over 3 million visitors annually, Jockey Club Racecourses is the largest commercial racing entity in the United Kingdom. Races, however, are held at irregular intervals throughout the year, posing issues in terms of meeting the needs of internal and external customers.

The Jockey Club experiences a widely varying range of activity, from extended periods of downtime to shorter periods of extremely high demand. Many of their courses go for long spans of time without hosting a race, but when one does come around, it’s a massive event. The Jockey Club needed to find a solution that would allow them to scale resources up and down efficiently, depending on the schedule and workload.
