B U I L D Y O U R P O R T F O L I O F O R C O L L E G E A D M I S S I O N The Pre-college Program gives you the chance to experience college-level studio experiences under the guidance of professional artists and designers who are also ACAD faculty members. Studio assignments, research projects and critiques will increase your ability to think conceptually. You'll use a variety of media that will most effectively and creatively communicate your ideas as you build toward creating your own portfolio of finished work. All of this work will prove impressive for post secondary admissions and bursary applications.

G E T P R E PA R E D F O R Y O U R B FA O R B D E S S T U D I E S E A R LY The ACAD Pre-college Program immerses students in contemporary art and design practice and simulates the

pace and expectations of the ACAD First Year Studies experience. The four-week program will introduce you to contemporary theory, and create opportunities for

you to integrate your new ideas into your new works as you build your intellectual and practical skills

that will set you up for success with your post-secondary studies.

ACAD’s Pre-college Program is a credited First Year Studies studio elective with instructors and curriculum that meet the same standards as every ACAD course. Students are expected to attend full days of classes in the studios during the week, evening portfolio prep and life drawing sessions, and to complete all assignments in order to receive a passing mark (or better) toward ACAD college credits. Credits are transferable too! Studio hours during the week provide dedicated work and library time in order to complete assignments.

As a Pre-college student, you will spend your days in a real studio, exploring the essential elements of artistic and design practice. In addition to your studio work, you will have the chance to participate in critiques, go on field trips, receive an individual portfolio review from a professional artist or designer, and meet influential members of Calgary’s art and design community.

THE ACAD PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAM INCLUDES:

S T U D I O E L E C T I V E 1 full day in studio (6 hours each week)

T O TA L I N S T R U C T I O N A L T I M E 30 hours per week, supported by additional studio hours after class and evening events.

Pre-college students must attend all classes and studio hours, 9:00am-5:30pm Monday-Friday, and evening activities Mondays and Wednesdays until 8:30pm. Homework may be necessary other evenings and weekends.

On Friday, July 31st the ACAD Pre-college Program will conclude with a group exhibition of works from the students graduating from the program, a ceremony, a group photo, and a reception for family and friends.

To apply for an ACAD President’s Fund Bursary, please follow the procedure on the bursary application form, available at acad.ca. If you apply for a bursary, there is no need to also submit this application form.

• Letter of recommendation on your school’s letterhead from your high school art teacher or guidance/career counselor.

• The full fee payment, your statement, the letter of recommendation and the completed registration form must accompany your application. We do not process incomplete applications.

Application packages must be received at ACAD Extended Studies by 4:00pm on June 5, 2015, latest.

Withdrawals received by May 29, 2015 will be refunded the full amount paid less a $60 administrative fee.

Supplies $175.00 CAD An extensive set of materials is provided for each student, including supplies for their elective. Work practices vary; students may require additional materials or choose to work in a medium that requires other items.

Activities $155.00 CAD Includes transportation and entry fees for field trips and all planned college activities.
