Five steps to a solution1. The client develops the design of the building together with the architect. 2. The engineering is done quickly by the technical planner using TwinCAT BA. The system integrator can conveniently use the data in the work planning. 3. Automated confi guration of the eXtendable Room Box takes place via the TwinCAT BA Box Confi gurator for the planner or system integrator. 4. The box is produced by Beckhoff or an external partner. It is also possible to create a parts list for in-house assembly.5. Finally, a simple installation of the eXtendable Room Box (fully prefabricated box with installation drawing/circuit diagram) is possible, optionally with terminal blocks or pluggable wires.

Modular, extendable and easily confi gured in the project planning phase using the Box Confi gurator in TwinCAT Building Automation: The eXtendable Room Box (XRB) covers all hardware functions and allows every degree of freedom with regards to protection class, material and setup. The prefabricated plug-and-play solution is completely preassembled and is optionally available with pluggable or conventional wiring. Fast engi-neering of PLC and hardware, industrial prefabrication, simple and fail-safe installation, saving of technical space and maximum extendability go all the way to make the eXtendable Room Box a solution that provides security for your investments.

The eXtendable Room Box includes the freely selectable mounting box and the necessary Bus Terminal I/O. The user obtains, virtually by mouse-click, a fully confi gured box that can be wired in the building via plug-and-play. For technical planners and system integrators, this ensures minimal engineering costs coupled with the greatest possible freedom in design: maximum customisation of the completely prefabricated boxes is possible down to a quantity of one.

The eXtendable Room Box is fl exible from the outset and grants the planner every freedom: enclosure, protection class and material are freely selectable, depending on the place of use. In addition, an adjustable space reserve is provided for future extensions. The solution also proves to be “smart” when it comes to installation: whether it is manufactured directly by Beckhoff or by one of Beckhoff‘s partner companies, the box is delivered fully pre-wired with the installation drawing and circuit diagram as an industrially and individually prefabricated plug-and-play solution, optionally with pluggable or classic wiring. This means no technical per-sonnel are required for the installation.

Depending on the design, the box can be placed anywhere – on the ceiling or the wall, in the fl oor, indoors and outdoors, and even in a fl ush-mounted version. The eXtendable Room Box is also fl exible in practice. The front end interface can be solved conveniently with the aid of smart-phones. Control panels in the rooms can be connected wirelessly or even omitted altogether, if preferred, to maintain a particular room aesthetic.

TwinCAT Building Automation integrates all essential functions for every system and reduces engineering time. Extensive software libraries and supplements continue the concept of the modular Beckhoff automa-tion toolkit at the software level. TwinCAT BA PLC Libraries

The TwinCAT BA PLC libraries provide the system integrator with esta-blished and tested functions. These include basic functions from the fi elds of control, signal processing, special mathematical functions, error message processing and general system functions.

TwinCAT BA PLC Templates

The TwinCAT BA PLC templates consist of ready-to-use TwinCAT program blocks for sensors and actuators, for complete modules and system parts or complete systems for heating, ventilation, air condi-tioning and room automation. As opposed to a regular PLC library, TwinCAT BA PLC templates are imported as program blocks into the PLC programs. The system integrator can carry out any necessary adap-tations independently. Moreover, users have the ability to create their own TwinCAT BA PLC templates.

TwinCAT BA Project Builder

The universal structure of the TwinCAT project fi les is the basis for an easily maintainable system. The central concept here is the system iden-tifi cation system (SIS), which assigns a name to each data point, each BACnet object and each program block according to fi xed rules. The TwinCAT BA Project Builder automatically generates the project fi les for the TwinCAT PLC Control and the TwinCAT System Manager for all Beckhoff controllers.

TwinCAT BA Box Confi gurator Based on an open Excel list that each user can access, the technical planner can precisely determine the costs even during pre-planning. The hardware modules can be selected as function modules and the matching tendering text and parts lists are then automatically created from these. Regardless of whether the project has numerous different boxes or whether they are all the same, the project can be modularised during pre-planning by means of freely created XRB typologies. It is thus ready for industrial prefabrication. With the TwinCAT BA Box Confi gurator, information is never lost. The complete planning data can be adopted from the planning phase to the implementation phase, sup-plemented by details and forwarded to production.

DALI 2: Beckhoff supports new standard for lighting technology

Edition 2 of the DALI standard extends the range of functions for lighting technology, e.g. for event-controlled communi-cation. With the new KL6821 multi-master terminal, each Beckhoff controller becomes a DALI 2 master. DALI 2 bus circuitry and power supply are integrated within the standard terminal, which is just 12 mm wide. TwinCAT function blocks simplify engineering, for example through a fl exible adaptation of the building utilisation by providing software support for the division of the building into room zones with the aid of sensors or light operating devices.
