Introduction

The Learning Partnership has been engaged by many UK schools, to help embed brain friendly learningprinciples throughout the learning journey that pupils undertake.

It is the experience of The Learning Partnership that for a school to truly change it approach to learning anddevelopment, the ownership of that change must reside with all pupils and staff. Our role therefore, is to helpleadership as a whole develop the skills to design and develop the plan, lead the process and continue thedrive to improve the learning experience of all parties connected to the school. We will seek to develop agroup of teachers within the school that are accredited to use all of the materials within the MESSAGEmodel, able to deliver training based upon the developmental needs of the school at any point in the future.Between them, the accredited teachers and the whole leadership team can then take on the task of planninginfrastructural developments within the school to support the change program.

The Learning Partnership and its team will be on hand to support the ongoing development within the schoolas and when required.

As Community Interest Company, our non-profit status allows us to deliver exceptional resources intoschools at rates that are affordable and sustainable.

A Change model for schools

The desire of any school to embed brain friendly learning principles throughout, can only become a realityquickly if this desire is matched by a willingness to plan strategically and for the long term, develop theleadership skills of both senior and middle management, and look at the many ways infrastructure and theenvironment around the school can be enhanced to support this change. The Learning partnership hasdeveloped this into a model – the Brain Friendly Learning (BFL) stool of change - if any one of the legs ismissing the stool is likely to fall over.

Historical approaches to the introduction of any of the materials included in the MESSAGE Model have metwith limited success for exactly this reason. Take mind mapping as one example – any teacher who hasused this technique will know that for learners in any class between 30 & 50% will find this tool a moreeffective learning approach than linear note taking, and yet the lack of support provided to teachers inembedding this tool throughout the curriculum, has resulted in its diminishing use in schools all over the UK.

The leadership’s goal in a school that is seriously committed to modernising learning must be to use everyopportunity to re-enforce learning and support change.

Michele GoughBefore becoming an independent consultant with TLP, Michèle worked initiallyin retail and financial management during the 80’s boom before seeing the lightand moving into the world of education. With a European background (Dutchmother, Spanish lineage, born in France) as early influence, she holds a JointHonours degree in French and Spanish. Holding Qualified Teacher Status andHeadteacher accreditation, Michèle brings with her a wealth of knowledge, humour and insight from her time spent working as a secondary teacher(“probably the most rewarding part of my professional life thus far”), seniorleader (“dealing with adults and their emotional and professional baggage isvastly more complicated than working with children and young people”) andadviser (“routinely beaten up by those above you and not trusted by those belowyou”) both locally and nationally.

A strong background in operational and strategic management together with knowledge and insight fromher experiences of working in a variety of cross-phase educational and multi-agency settings, mainlyinvolving schools facing challenging circumstances, enable her to work confidently with individuals andteams, children and adults; Michèle’s input and training help to not only raise standards but also to createthe inclusive social and emotional ethos that underpins the Every Child Matters Agenda, engages allagencies and serves the needs of the community.

When working with senior teams her principle aim is to re-energise and remind them of their moralpurpose, awakening them to their authentic leadership styles that help shape and determine the fabric oftheir learning environments.

As an experienced teacher and senior leader Michèle challenges the learning and behaviour of all byworking with them from within, bringing the best out of themselves and ensuring that real ownership, together with sustained change are achieved. Using Spiral Dynamics © Values Profiling, she digs downinto their values system to understand and overcome their inhibitors to learning and change.

The secret of her success? What you see is what you get – relevance, humour, an ability to engage witheveryone, staying power and bags of energy. Time spent with her is guaranteed to be fun, relevant andworthwhile.

Ben Hunt-Davis

“Will It Make the Boat Go Faster?”This question helped Ben Hunt-Davis raise his game and row his way to anOlympic Gold Medal in Sydney 2000. What is your business equivalent?

Keynote speaker and performance coach Ben Hunt-Davis has spent the last 5years working with a wide range of businesses helping them answer these questions. In his keynote speechhe tells the inspirational and exciting story of how, after a decade in the national team he won an OlympicGold Medal. His crew was the first British winners of the event since 1912.

After seven years competing in the national team Ben was still a long way from winning any World Medals. He tells of how things had to change, there could be no excuses. He and the team set their ambitions andstarted looking for different ways to achieve them, defining absolutely everything that could make the boat gofaster. They changed their mindset, their approach and their training and as a result, their performance.

Ben’s story of the journey to an Olympic Gold Medal bridges the reality gap between just listening to howothers achieve their goals and doing it yourself. His experience as a business coach has allowed Ben a greatdeal of insight into the corporate world.

Knowing about how people think and what motivates them. This means he can use his story to greatesteffect explaining not only how he achieved his goals but how other can as achieve theirs.

Ben's keynote can simply be told as a hugely exciting and inspirational story, or it can be tailored to bring outspecific themes such as;
