Current Context: Trends and Challenges in the
Museum Sector
As an introduction to the topic, the conference opening will provide
an overview of museums' current context, trends and challenges.
This module will be led by Miguel Falomir, Director of the Prado Mu-seum and conference chairman.
Museum Innovation and Differentiation
Projects
The third topic covers the need to define a unique, inno-
vative project on which to build the museum’s artistic,
cultural and educational con-tribution.
Reputation and Intangible Asset
Management
Museums must protect and improve their reputation if they intend to grow in the current context. Positive attitu-des, recommendations and new op-portunities can arise by taking good
care of relations with stakeholders and developing strategic communication.
Sponsorship and New Sources
of Funding
In an increasingly competitive global context where resources are limi-ted, it is important to find new fun-ding models that include traditional public funding and sponsorship, as well as today's crowdfunding and
fundraising methods.
The conference will take place at the University of Navarra, a non-profit institution of higher education established in Pamplona, Spain in 1952. The University offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate program on four campuses in Spain (Pamplona, San Sebastian, Madrid and Barcelona). It has many research centers contribu-ting to knowledge in areas ranging across the experimental and social sciences.
Location
The University has its own museum, Museum University of Navarra, through which it encourages artistic creation and research and teaching on artistic expression, and promotes arts and culture in and from the university community.
The University has over 100,000 graduate alumni living all over the world. The University is listed in top positions in Spanish and European rankings.
Recent studies, such as the report by Professor Cees Van Riel, a world expert in corporate reputa-tion, have confirmed that reputation and intangi-ble assets management have become buzzwords on the topics of museum value creation and the strategic alliance with institutions and sponsors.
The University of Navarra, the Museo del Prado and Corporate Excellence-Centre for Reputation Leadership are organizing a joint conference to re-flect on the internal and external factors that shape museum reputation.
This is the first conference of its kind to bring toge-ther academic and professional experts to share their knowledge and experience of one of the most significant issues now affecting museum strategy.
This conference is aimed at mu-seum managing directors, adminis-trators and communication mana-gers, as well as companies and insti-tutions interested in museum spon-sorship and its return on corporate reputation.
1. To reflect on the reputation and intangible asset management carried out by museum manage-ment boards to ensure their mu-seums are distinctive and rele-vant institutions that make a social and cultural mark.
2. To discover the keys aspects of reputation that enhance mu-seum credibility based on pro-ject quality and quality as perceived by stakeholders.
3. To build relationships with peers across the sector, to forge allian-ces and foster networking.
4. To learn more about best prac-tices to enhance museum pro-jects and relationships with stra-tegic stakeholders.
