1. INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT

This project requires involvement of structural theory, force calculation and basic structural proposal. This project requires us to produce a complete documentation on structural system of the bungalow that we had designed. We are given several building outline design which were separated into category A and B, and we are required to design a 2 storey bungalow using the layout given. We are also required to carry out the structural framing for the building.

In a group of 3, we are to design a 2 storey bungalow which consists of the following components:- 1 master bedroom with attached bathroom- Minimum 2 bedrooms- 2 bathrooms- Kitchen- Living Hall- Dining Area- 1 Store Room.

From the information that we had gathered and analysed, each of us will have to analyse a minimum amount of 6 beams, where each beam must subject to different types of loads. Other than that, we are also required to analyse a minimum of 3 columns, from roof to foundation level. The formulas uses are as below:

Slab System1. LY / LX > 2 = One way slab system2. LY / LX < 2 = Two way slab system

Beam Calculation1. Beam self weight = Beam size x density of reinforced concrete2. Slab dead load = Thickness x density of reinforced concrete x LX/2 ( Trapezoid )

= Thickness x density of reinforced concrete x LX/2 x 2/3 ( Triangular )3. Slab live load = liveload ( UBBL ) x LX/2 ( Trapezoid )

At the end of this project, our group had learnt how to produce a complete documentation on structural system of a building. Other than that, we had used the given chance to explore and understand the concept of structural analysis, at the same time, able to identify the different kinds of structural components. Our group were able to recognise, execute and implement all the basic procedures of a building structure design, hence producing a structural proposal.
