( )Step 1: Green Associate (LEED GA): There are no eligibility requirements for the LEED Green Associate Exam. However, the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) recommends that candidates have exposure to LEED and greenrecommends that candidates have exposure to LEED and green building concepts.

LEED Green Associates maintain their credentials by earning 15 continuing education hours every two years. LEED APs with g y ySpecialty maintain their credentials by earning 30 continuing education hours every 2 years.

providers including the USGBC Central Texas Chapter, self‐reported courses and presentations green build international conference andcourses and presentations, green build international conference and expo)

Role of a LEED AP on a project seeking LEED certification

• Give the owner/client an indication of what’s required for a b ld d fbuilding to undergo LEED certification process.

• Work with the client/consultants on a LEED Feasibility study to determine whether the project will be able to get the desired LEED ratingLEED rating. 

• Work closely with the design team to make sure the initial intent of the LEED rating is being met and not being overlooked during the design and value engineering processthe design and value engineering process.

• Make sure the selection process for GCs takes into account their ability to work on a  building that will be pursuing LEED .

• Bring a comprehensive understanding of the LEED online tool, the g p g ,best way to get in touch with GBCI when in doubt, when to submit a CIR (credit interpretation ruling), when to appeal.
