1. What are the two main teachings of the Bible?

The Law and the Gospel. All that God says to us falls into one of these two categories.

2. What is the Law?

Matthew 19:17-19 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” the man inquired. Jesus replied, “‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Death: The separation of the soul and body

Hell: Place of endless punishment and permanent separation from God and his love.

The Law tells us that God punishes sins, especially with death and hell.

3. What is the Gospel?

Luke 2:10-11 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

3. What is the Gospel?

The Gospel = good news that Jesus has come to free us from sin, death and hell.

The Gospel = good news that Jesus has come to free us from sin, death and hell.

The Gospel says that Jesus took our place in life – he obeyed the law for us.

Isaiah 53:5-6 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Forgiveness: Freeing someone from being punished

3. What is the Gospel?

The purpose of the Bible is to teach us about Jesus so that we have faith in him and eternal life.
