Universities HEI’s are essentially the cribs of the nation’s leaders. Life-long lessons ofdedication, perseverance, professionalism and kindness are impacted by the academiathrough a number of academic and co-academic activities. Fortunately, the efforts extendedby the BUITEMS leadership are reflected through our alumni’s affability and aptitude. Wemay have little control over future, but we can make our present significantly brighter andthrough that our future too. Through initiatives for promoting professional skills, BUITEMShas succeeded as an educational institution to prepare a better generation of leaders. Hence,in effect, BUITEMS inspires those who come in contact with us. Our visitors take a positivevibe from the buzz of energy, particularly in the corridors of the campuses. This veryrealization, that our youth is endowed with a zesty vigor that is being utilized for healthierdrives and is inadvertently inspiring academic leaders towards new possibilities. They arenow trying to channelize this energy towards fostering hope.

Historically speaking, the developed nations have depended predominantly on theiruniversities and educational institutions. The very existence of our Country is the evidenceof efforts by enlightened and vigilant minds, educated at visionary academic institutions. Therefore, to revive the same spirit that united us for a joint cause we must refurbish oureducational system for the better. In this connection, BUITEMS is already doing its part byeducating the youth despite all circumstances. Moreover, we are coming up with socialsolutions and giving exemplary support in the social realms, trying to overcome ourshortcomings.

This quarter, the prevalent theme of various activities at BUITEMS have chiefly focused onthe same motif: if we want to see this country progress, we need to change the way we lookat Education and the Educators. From the visit of the Chairman of HEC, the syndicate meetingto the conferences and workshops, the common discourse pattern indicated a realization thatacademic involvement in policy making and public services is indispensable for the growthof the nation, particularly in the wake of the anticipatory awareness of an economic andcultural surge that will accompany the CPEC. The nation has to be prepared, the HEI’s haveto equip our future intelligentsia and BUITEMS is part of all other institutions which are readyto shoulder such responsibility. BUITEMS has always sought evolution and perfection throughinvolving the students and teachers in workshops, seminars, conferences and competitionswhich broaden their vision and introduce them to new techniques.

The Vienna InternationalC h r i s t i a n - I s l a m i cSummer University(VICISU) is a religious

and intercultural program that aims at bringing together students andprofessors from different universities in Christian and Muslim countriesall around the world to study intercultural topics from the perspectivesof various academic disciplines. VICISU started in 2008 and isorganized on a biannual basis. Professors and students come fromseveral countries on five continents including Australia, Austria, Ghana,Germany, India, Indonesia, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, SaudiArabia, Turkey, Uganda and United States of America. VICISU was organized

at Stift Altenburg, a Benedictine monastery in lowerAustria. The baroque monastery, which is well knownfor its ‘Garden of the Religions,’ offers campus facilitieswith a unique learning atmosphere surrounded by thebeautiful landscape of lower Austria.Mr. Asmat Ullah Kakar participated in the VICISUprogram from Pakistan along with Aminah Gillani andMaheen Samreen from Lahore. The modules in theprogram mostly consisted of the religious topics fromthe religions of Islam and Christianity. The discussion inthe class comprised of the topics such as introductionto Christianity, introduction to Islam, Islamic diversity,International law, and human rights, women andJihadism, religion and politics, Censorship, Islam, Sharia

and politics in Southeast Asia, freedom of expression, religious pluralism and conflictmanagement training. The program modules were very thought provoking in-spite of sensitivereligious issues, the participants could easily understand the views of different faith believers.Religion provides a direction for life but different religions in different parts of the world can makeus understand the belief system. In fact, the existence of those believers who are in minority ina society and whose beliefs are very different from your beliefs cannot be ignored as believersbecause every religion has some principles and it is difficult to draw a line between those thatshould be followed and those that we think should not be followed. What seems good to oneperson can seem different to another person. Therefore, one cannot draw a line between beliefsbecause beliefs are not based solely on logic and religion is a system of beliefs that does notforce people to accept its principles. After evaluating issues related to religion the message thatthe program gave is the peace, tolerance, pluralism and the rights for the people choosing andpracticing a religion for themselves and also not to violate the fundamental human rights byimplementing laws and fatwas which are not consistent with the basic human rights and with theprinciples of a different religion people practice. Religion provides a direction for life but sometimeshuman rights are violated in a way that the religion is projected for personal benefits only. The VICISU program also consisted of some trips which included a guided tour to the Abbey ofMelk, which remained the political center of Austria for centuries and has an important history.A trip to the second largest river of the Europe The Danube river was arranged in a boat, differentreceptions which included a reception by the Abbey of Melk, Stift Altenburg, reception by theMayor of Vienna and guided tours to the University of Vienna and Stift Altenburg. The programconsisted of the sports activities for the participants which included soccer, snooker, table tennisetc. A full of learning VICISU program ended on 17th of August with the conclusion that in today’sglobalized world we need to accept different views. Therefore, we need tolerance for making oursociety a pluralistic society so that peace can be promoted and Islam can be represented in itstrue perspective. The participants received certificates of participation in the closing ceremonyof the program at the University of Vienna. The program ended with a farewell party to theparticipants in the evening on 17th of August 2018.

Directorate of HumanResource Development

in collaboration withFaculty of Arts & Basic Sciences organized a one day workshop onFundamentals of Research Process for Effective Writing of Research Article.More than 35 faculty members including MS students gathered in the traininghall on September 24, 2018 to learn and broaden their knowledge in therealms of research. Dr. Liaquat Ali Channa and Dr. Syed Abdul Manan,

highly qualified professionals from the department of English guided theparticipants through the three fundamental stages of research endeavor:

planning, processing, and publishing.

The facilitators began the program by demystifying the preconceived notion of a researcheras someone working in a laboratory, wearing a white coat and putting in his life experienceinto an experiment; a person anything but ordinary. "Where actually any person can be agood researcher, there are no set standards to be able to embark on the journey except totravel the roads with passion and patience" asserted Dr. Manan. The scholars further insistedover the importance of the first and foremost step in the research process, "planning". Theyemphasized over and over again that it isn't all about getting a paper published but rathergetting a work published in a well-reputed journal. The researchers in making were amazedto know about the spread of predatory journals over the internet and paid close attention asthe scholars demonstrated how they can avoid falling a prey into the hands of predators.

Dr. Rani Gul from the Department ofEducation took out her precious time andfamiliarized the participants with APA,Chicago and MLA citation and referencestyles. The composition and parts of thearticle were discussed thoroughly in thesecond half of the session. Towards the end,the resource persons passionately quoted avery famous research cliché in the air to ringa bell in the heads of the stakeholders oftomorrow, "Publish or Perish"!
