Indonesia Defense University graduated 296 master program students Period I Academic Year 2018,

and also to awarded the Intellectual Cadres of State Defense. Graduation ceremony attended by Secretary General of Ministry of Defense Indonesia, Air Marshal of Indonesia Armed Forces Hadiyan Sumintaatmadja which represent the Minister of Defense of Indonesia, Ryamizard Ryacudu along with the Rector of Indonesia Defense University Lieutenant general of Indonesia Armed Forces Dr, Yoedhi Swastanto, M.B.A. The graduation ceremony held in Multifunction Auditorium of PMPP, IPSC Cluster Sentul-Bogor on Thursday 22nd March.

Previously, IDU held the Closing Ceremony of Academic Year for the pre-Graduates students which led by the Rector of IDU on Tuesday, 20th March. The Head of Academic and Students Affairs Department, Brigadier General of Indonesia Armed Forces Agus Winarna, S.I.P., M.Si., M.Tr (Han) delivered the report of Academic Year based on the Yudisium Council Meeting.

The results of Yudisium Council Meeting on March 15 2018, decided the total of Master program students Indonesia Defense University Academic Year 2014/2015,

Academic Year 2015/2016, Academic Year 2016/2017, and Academic Year 2017/2018 which declared “PASSED”is 296 students, consisted of Strategic Defense Faculty 145 students, Defense Management Faculty 56 students, National Security Faculty 85 students, and Defense Technology Faculty 10 students.

43 students out of 296 students awarded as the Honoured students with Highest GPA, consisted of 5 students from Assymetric Warfare study program, 5 students from Defense Diplomacy study program, 1 student from Land strategic defense, 1 student from defense management study program, 3 students from Energy security study program, 3 students from defense economy study program, 3 students from disaster management

study program, 6 students from maritime security study program, 7 students from peace and resolution conflict study program, 9 students from defense industry study program.

At that time, one student was awarded the Canti Dharma Cendekia Award named Adi Kurnia Yusuf, NIM 120160206001 with GPA 3,96. On the other hand, Canti Dharma Sastra Award was awarded to Megawati Rosalio Putri from Maritime Security study Program, NIM 120160205015 with the thesis entitled “ The effectivity of Indian Ocean RIM Association (IORA) Role in Maritime Security of Hindi Ocean Territories from Indonesia’s Perspectives”.

The graduation ceremony was not only coloured by the awards of trophies and placard of contribution by the secretary General of Ministry of Defense of Indonesia, but also the deliver of message from the student representative to show the joy and sorrow for having education program at IDU.

Rector of IDU stated that it was an honour and pride to be the Alumni of IDU, because of its good quality of human resources in defense field. Every students

needed to know their values in order to be the Defence Human Capital and become the volunteer for th Defense system and State Defense within societies.

The alumni of Indonesia Defense University (IDU) came from different backgrounds in Indonesia, and also came from Civil Servant of State Council and Regional

government, and other countries such as Australia and Brunei Darussalam. This thing implied that the alumnis of Indonesia Defense University are capable in contributing to the development of Indonesia. By the development of graduates’ amount of IDU, total graduates from IDU became 1637 students since its

very first establishment in 2009.

The Rector of IDU congratulated the graduates with pride by having an “A” accreditation and to have more responsibilities as the Intellect Cadres of State Defense. This moment was expected to be the main gate to enter new life of contribution to the organizations,

departments, and every places they are responsible for. The Rector of IDU emphasized that Indonesia Defense University is one of the State universities in Indonesia which has declared as the University of State Defense and applied it into education curriculum during the academic


program. This was synergizing with Minister of Defense’s expectation as the functional supervisor of Indonesia Defense University which emphasized the students of IDU in implementing their skills and knowledge, also by having character and spirit of nationalism in accordance with the values of State

Defense to believe that Pancasila is the one and only ideology of Indonesia, fully conscience to raise the spirit of nationalism and willing to sacrifice for the sake of the nation.

State Defense program by the Minister of Defense as the implementation of mental revolution

declared by President of Indonesia Joko Widodo, and Indonesia Defense University as the State Defense University hold its existence as the only university in Indonesia focusing on Defense field and State Defense in order to prepare the next generation of nation’s leaders and become the main part of defense and security to face the globalization and modernization.

Minister of defense in his speech which delivered by the Secretary General of Ministry of Defense Indonesia gave the congratulations and appreciations to all graduates who have finished the education in IDU. All 296 graduates of IDU which consisted of 4 faculties and 13 study programs will have the capabilities to implement the knowledge and skills for the sake of the nation.

Minister of Defense stated that the alumni will be the main part in analyzing defense system through the policies. These are the challenges for all students wherever they are being responsible for.

After the held of Formal meeting ended, the event continued with graduation tradition, which by declaring the Promises of Alumni and awarded the pin of IDU’s alumni which held at Indonesia Defense University.

Graduation of Master Program Period I Academic Year 2018 was attended by the Echelons 1 of Ministry of Defense, Vice Rectors I, II, and III of Indonesia Defense University, Professors, Lecturers Council of IDU, Ex Rectors of IDU, Executive staffs from Indonesia Peace and Security Center (IPSC), the expertise from Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, Students Council of IDU, Defense Attaches from other countries, Main Base of Indonesia Armed Forces, and also the graduates along with their families also other invitations.

Indonesia Defense University (IDU) held Alumni, Lecturer, and Expert of Defense Symposium which theme was “ Through the Symposium of Alumni and Academic Society Synergized to Build Indonesia Defense University to The World Class Defense University”, The Symposium has been opened directly by The Rector of IDU Lieutenant General of Indonesia Armed Force Dr. Yoedhi Swastanto, M.B.A., at IDU Auditorium, State Defense Campus, at the International Peace and Security Centre (IPSC) complex, Sentul, Bogor. Thursday, (8/3).

According to the Rector of IDU, as alumni of IDU, not only got an Intellectual Degree, but also called as Intellectual Cadre of State Defense. The Alumni are important node of the Indonesia Defense University Academic Society, to increase the quality and service of Indonesia Defense University for academic purposes, to be more useful for the society, and also act as public relation agencies to socialize about Indonesia Defense University at their selves respective duties and institutions.

In order to achieve the vision of Indonesia Defense University to be the be The World Class Defense University in 2024 based on researched that conserve the national values, roles and support from the alumni such as giving some ideas, thought, constructive criticism and synergic contribution.

The existence of the Indonesia Defense University alumni community plays an important and potential role to support national development in general, and in particular for the advancement of the Indonesia Defense University in the future. Therefore, alumni are expected

to build a network in order to help, guide and facilitate the alumni and the academic society of Indonesia Defense University, have a sense of awareness and a sense of belonging to the Indonesia Defense University, to contribute in the effort to raise the Indonesia Defense University, to generate the constructive ideas for the interests of alumni and the academic community of Indonesia Defense University and the nation of Indonesia.

The Symposium presented two speakers, The Deputy Personnel Assistant of Indonesia Armed Forces, Commander Brigadier General Heri Wiranti, S.E., M.M., M.Tr (Han), from the National Vox Populi Institute Indonesia. (Cand) Rofinus Neto Wuli, Pr., S.Fil, M.Si (Han) and Sultan Djanieb, M.Si Han as Moderator.Before the symposium closing, there was held The Establishment of the Alumni Organization Committee


of Indonesia Defense University Period 2018 to 2020. With the board as follows; Heru Budi Wasesa as chairman, Brigadier General of Indonesia Armed Forces Agus Winarna, S.I.P., M.Si., M, Tr (Han) as Vice Chairman, Brigadier General of the Indonesia Armed Forces. (Cand) Deni DAR, S.Sos., M.Si (Han) as Secretary General, Sifra Panggabean as Deputy Secretary General, Sultan Djanieb as Secretary, Indra S. The 9th anniversary of Indonesia Defense University in 2018 is celebrated with gratitude and happiness. In the series of Indonesia Defense University anniversary held the opening of the Indonesia Defense University senate. A series of activities of the Indonesia Defense University anniversary have been conducted starting from alumni symposium, seminars, social events, to sports together.

The Rector of Indonesia Defense University hoped the managers and the academic society of Indonesia Defense University could move forward, comprehensively and holistically in carrying out their main tasks and functions. In this 9th year, the Indonesia Defense University maintains it has an “A” accreditation status, this condition is very profitable for people who work hard and earnestly.

Currently, the Indonesia Defense University also has 17 study programs, of which three of them have been accredited “A” i.e.; The Universal War Strategy Study Program, Peace and Conflict Resolution Study Program, and the Disaster Management Studies program, as well as other Study Programs has been accredited “B” from the four existing faculties, and by 2017 the Indonesia Defense University has opened three new study Programs on the Faculty of Defense Technology, in addition the certified lecturers fulfillment processes and quality improvement of the lecturers are on the progress along with the standards that should be full filled.

The 9th Indonesia Defense University’s anniversary consisted of several events such as awarding the awards for university professors of Indonesia Defense University, Accreditation Certificate of Study programs for Disaster Management study program, the National Security Faculty, Lecturers certification, and outstanding Students and Academic staff.

The 9th Indonesia Defense University’s anniversary also presented an Scientific oration by the Dean of Defense Management Faculty Admiral of the Indonesia Armed Forces, Dr. Amarulla Octavian, ST, M.Sc., DESD on the modernization of the Indonesian National Air Defense System for the needs and sovereignty of Republic of Indonesia.

On its Scientific Oration Dean of

the Defense Management Faculty describes the concept of Building an Early Detection System and an Integrated Intercept System, which is most responsible for National air is the National Air Defense Command.

The three basic tasks and functions of the National Air Defense Command are the organization of air forces that integrate aspects of existing defense forces from the Indonesia Armed Forces Army, the Indonesian Navy National Army, the Indonesian Armed Forces of the Air Force, and the civilian element over every Aircraft the new unity of NKRI.

The National Air Defense Command also has the obligation to protect the State sovereignty and National security from the latest air threats such as ballistic missiles, cruise missiles

and unmanned aircraft, but has no ability to ward off ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and unman air vehicle (UAV) from equipment, systems, and doctrines aspects.

Concepts and strategies of the capabilities enhancement for detection systems are established in order to effectively detect objects and threats in the air. In this case the National Air Defense Command must have a wider range radar such as the Over The Horizon (OTH) radar that capable of generating up to thousands of kilometers, so that the National Air Defense Command is capable of detecting much further any threat from the air that intended to enter Indonesia.

systems by the Indonesia Armed Forces need to be improved. In addition to the lack of quantity aspect, land-based, marine, air-owned by Indonesian Armed Forces intercept systems are still limited, this condition indicates the need for quality and quantity improvement, as well as new doctrines to counter the latest air threats, such as drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles.

The conclusion of this scientific oration is the necessity of the National Air Defense Command to immediately improve the capability of early detection system and integrated intercept system in the three dimensions of Indonesia Armed Forces, Indonesian National Naval Force and Indonesian National Air Force in order to make early detection and shoot down any threat or aircraft attack or other aerial platforms including UAVs and enemy ballistic missiles.

On this occasion the Rector of the Indonesia Defense University awarded the founders of Indonesia Defense University Lieutenant General of Indonesia Armed Forces (ret.) Syarifuddin Tippe, M.Si., and awards to Professors of the Indonesia Defense University, They are; Professor Ir. Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Ph.D., Major General Indonesia Armed Forces (Ret.) Professor Dr. Syamsul Ma’arif, S.I.P., M.Sc., Professor Dr. Indria Samego, M.A., Professor Dr. Ir. Budi Susilo Soepanji, DEA, Professor Dr. Makarim Wibisono, Ph.D., and Stipulation as a Lecturer of Achievement at Indonesia Defense University. Herlina Juni Risma Saragih, M.Si., determination as an outstanding Academic staff in the environment of the Indonesia Defense University to Major Caj (K) Deyvie Laudya Roringkon, SIP, And the Determination of outstanding Students in the Indonesia Defense University, Khusnul Khotimah student of Energy Security study program from the faculty of Defense of Indonesia Defense University. In addition, awards were also given to Disaster Management study program which have Accredited “A” To the Secretary of Disaster Management Study Program, from National Security Faculty of Indonesia Defense University, Colonel H. Dr, IDK. Kertawidana, SKM., MKKK.

The 9th anniversary of the Indonesia Defense University was attended by all the former Rector of the Indonesia Defense University and the 1st and 2nd echelon Officials within the Ministry of Defense, as well as the Invite Leadership Official in the Sentul IPSC Complex.

Lieutenant General of Indonesia Armed Forces Dr. Yoedhi

Swastanto, M.B.A inaugurated as the Rector of IDU used to have the title as the Major General of Indonesia Armed Forces, officially inaugurated as the Rector of Indonesia Defense University by the Minister of Defense, General of Indonesia Armed Forces (Ret) Ryamizard Ryacudu on February 8th 2018 at AH. Nasution Building 16th floor, Ministry of Defense of Indonesia, Jakarta.

Minister of Defense of Indonesia led the inauguration ceremony, started with the declaration of Minister of Defense Decision report continued with the inauguration ceremony of the new position by the Minister of Defense.

In this opportunity, the MoD of Indonesia pinned the award of new position also the legitimation of the inauguration letter from the Rector of IDU.

During the speech of MoD, he stated

that this inauguration of new position play the important roles especially to achieve the effective structure organization of Ministry of Defense, especially in Indonesia Defense University. This event was not only contain of personal supervise within the ministry’s environment, but also to synergized the education program, research, and contributions to the society in Indonesia Defense University.

The inauguration is common activity which must be done in every dynamic organizations. So, we need to believe that the inauguration will give more effects in raising the work performance of IDU. The pride of having IDU must be balance with strong willingness to enhance the IDU through masterpieces, also the effect of good performances will affect the society.

The goals need to be achieved from the inauguration is to ensure the synergizing of job description and defense functional in implementing the strong defense

The new Rector of Indonesia Defense University must have better vision in develop this institute in order to have better human resources in defense field. The graduates of IDU will further able to compete and synergize with other components of Nations defense system.

Minister of Defense stated that the quality must be prioritized in order to have high qualification of human resources. Minister of Defense believe that all challenge will be handled fluently by the new Rector of Indonesia Defense University. Enhancement of education quality and the graduates of Indonesia Defense University will be developed in the future.


Students of Indonesia Defense University (IDU) had the general lecture delivered by the Minister, Commander of Indonesia Armed Forces, and the institution’s director to give more information and knowledge related to the uprising issues and the policies within the ministers and the executive institutions of Indonesia.

General lecture which has given by the directors and ministers to the students of IDU is beneficial for the enhancement of students’ knowledge because they learned directly from the main source and experts in their field. Through the general lecture, students will have the chance to gain more precious knowledge. On the other hand, they are able to share their perspectives which assume many ideas in detail.

General lecture for the students of IDU delivered by the Minister of transportation which at that time represented by special staff of Ministry of transportation economic and transportation investation field Prof. Wihana Kirana Jaya, M.Soc., Ph.D. The general lecture entitled “transportation policy in supporting the national integration to achieve the sovereignty and prosperity of the nation”, held in the auditorium building of IDU, IPSC Cluster, Sentul-Bogor, Wednesday January 24th 2018.

During his general lecture, the special staff of Ministry of transportation economic and transportation investation field explained that Indonesia is an islands territory state with approximately 99.149 km across the beach line, 1.913.578,68 km2 land territory, 14.572 total of named

islands and coordinated, 6.292.156,82 km2 sea territory based on BIG data (2016).He also explained that work performance of ministry of transportation in 2017 internationally, the global Competitiveness Index was developing. It is proven by Indonesia was chosen as the member of IMO Council Category C. During 2018-2019, Indonesia has reached the international flight class, according to the safety flight audits 81,15% and become the 2nd ranked of safety flights in ASEAN. Domestic aspects consisted of transportation contribution to the PDB (%) in 2017 for the next three years: 5,48%, the success of Lebaran Guyub Rukun (friendly and harmony) transportation operation in 2017, 13 sea toll ways, dwelling time in the 4 main ports, the development of digital technology based-ship (Inaportnet), and ship transportation for livestock.

General lecture also delivered by the Presidential Advisory Council member (Wantipres) Major General Pol. (Ret) Drs. Sidarto Danusubroto,S.H entitled “ the Nationalistic Insights to achieve the Sovereignty of Indonesia” on Wednesday, February 2nd 2018.

Major General Pol (Ret) Drs. Sidaryo Danusubroto, S.H. stated that Indonesia has survived for 72 years, and Pancasila is the main reason since the independence of Indonesia as the basic or foundation of the nation, which consisted of nation-state, spiritual state, and diversity states. There are so many states out there who still faced the horizontal and vertical conflict especially when it comes to the religion.

Pancasila is needed to be rooted, not only rhetoric and theory. In order to enhance Pancasila as the ideology of the state, Pancasila must be changed into knowledge paradigm. All constitutions are rooted from the imperative

moral values of Pancasila, also as the reason to fight for, working ideology, leadership by example. As the example, few countries in Middle East with horizontal conflict would like to learn from Indonesia, Indonesia with Moslem majority but compatible with the democracy.

General lecture entitled “ Indonesia Armed Forces’ policy in Developing the Sovereignty of Indonesia” delivered by the Commander of Indonesia Armed Forces Marshal of Indonesia Armed Forces Hadi Tjahjanto, S,.I.P on Thursday, March 13th 2018.

In his general lecture, the Commander of Indonesia Armed Forces explained that Indonesia Armed Forces’ policy in protecting the sovereignty of Indonesia was the essence of ministers and institutions policies, including of what President has formulated. President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo was willing to “achieve the sovereignty of Indonesia, with “we feeling” characteristic”

The key words which being enhanced by the Indonesia Armed Forces through their policy is sovereign, independent, and “we feeling” characteristic.

The commander of Indonesia Armed Forces elaborated government’s missions which formulated into Indonesia Armed Forces tasks and actions. Indonesia Armed Forces committed to achieve national security through protecting the sovereignty and maritime resources security which part of main job of Indonesia Armed Forces. On the other hand, Indonesia Armed Forces also committed to synergized and support the Government’s policy, such as the development of soldier’s professionalism, build the power of Indonesia Armed Forces with Maritime characteristic, until prioritize Pancasila as the main

characteristic of the nation.

Other factors as the main essence of Indonesia Armed Forces’ policy is the development of strategic environment. The phenomena of strategic environment nowadays is still consisted of essential issues, such as trade war, conflict in the Korean Peninsula and South China Sea conflict dispute, territory jurisdictional violation, radicalism, natural disaster, and inequality treatment issues which become main focus for today’s government system. Things to be concerned is this year will be held national election in 171 regions of Indonesia, also the process of Precedential Election in 2019. Surely, this will be the moment to ensure the stability of the government system, center and regionals.

We could not absent from the development of international system. As we know that the industry revolutions were keep moving, from the very first, second, third, and nowadays we are facing the 4.0 industry revolution era. Each revolutions characterized by nowadays values and innovations. However, the innovations intended to have disruption characters, which will change the paradigms or forma

structure that are rooted within society.

Some impacts that we felt nowadays is the development of digital technology which rising exponentially. This will trigged some major fixation on how to produce more developed, efficient, and multiple functions.

Coordinating Minister for political, Legal, and Security Affairs General of Indonesia Armed Forces (Ret) Dr. H. Wiranto, S.H., M.M delivered the general lecture for the students of Indonesia Defense University entitled

“State Defense and National Security for the Sake of the Nations” on Wednesday, March 28th 2018.

The presentation by the Coordinating Minister for political, Legal, and Security Affairs started with the new beginning of national behavior from 1908 to 1945, where in 1908 national conscience started to appear with the rise of “Boedi Oetomo” organization.

In 1928, politic conscience appeared within the youth to gather all young generations and formulated “Sumpah Pemuda”. In 1945, they fight to build Indonesia started with the proclamation text of Indonesia’s independence and to achieve the independent Indonesia, sovereign,


just, and prosper.

On the other hand, Coordinating Minister for political, Legal, and Security Affairs also stated that The opening remarks of National institutions 1945 which part of Indonesia’s dreams to have independence, united, sovereign, just and prosper, which by achieving it will face so many challenges like the global competition, human capital competition, threat to the unity of Indonesia such as terrorism, radicalism, illegal logging, cyber threat, trans-national organized crime, separatism, and hoax, hatred statement, provocation, media social threat.Role of State Defense is needed and played by every people of Indonesia and prioritized as the rights and responsibility to face every threats and challenges faced by Indonesia now and years ahead.

The Indonesia Defense University continues to actively cooperate with governmental and private institutions, both from Domestic and Abroad, Tridharma of universities especially in the field of education, research, and community service are also continuously run by universities at home and abroad.

As the speaker of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Minister H.E. Ignasius Jonan conveyed some government policies and vision on the development of Renewable Energy (EBT) in Indonesia.

In addition to make energy supplies more reliable, more and more citizens can access. One of the possibility is to apply off-grid electrification and renewable energy. This mechanism allows the energy storage as well as automatic switching between the use of renewable and conventional energy.

Rector of the Indonesia Defense University Lieutenant General of Indonesia Armed Forces Dr. Yoedhi Swastanto, M.B.A., welcomed the visit of the Indian Ambassador, and said that bilateral relations between Indonesia and India are one of the dynamics and the importance both for Indonesia and India to share interests. This also strengthens the defense bonds of both countries and builds cooperative relationships in enhancing capabilities and maintaining peace and stability in a region based on mutual respect and mutual trust.

The hope presented by the Rector of the Indonesia Defense University is that the two countries can further intensify the relationship to conduct defense cooperation such as education, joint training and defense dialogue. Indonesia Defense University students themselves in April is planned to conduct an Overseas Study Program to India.

While the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Mr. Pradeep Kumar concludes that Courtesy Call is a forum for sharing ideas, experiences and important information to strengthen defense cooperation and contribute to regional and global stability.

Indonesia Defense University conducts the socialization of the New Student Admissions for the 2018/2019 academic year. The event was led by the Head of Bureau of Academic and Student Affairs of Indonesia Defense University Brigadier General Indonesia Armed Forces Agus Winarna, S.I.P., M.Si., M.Tr (Han). The Socialization of the Indonesia Defense University was conducted in order to provide the opportunities to all Indonesia Armed Forces and Civil Servant personnel to take part in the opportunity to become an Indonesia Defense University Student. This socialization activity was also conducted to introduce the Indonesia Defense University much further to all Indonesia Armed Forces personnel and the State Ministry of Defense civil apparatus and the Ministry of Defense’s large Family.

Indonesia Defense University held the National field study within

regions in Indonesia. The research from the field study was to enhance the research focusing on regional development of defense field with the effort to state defense.

This event was intended to give more insights, understanding, and experiences for the students to develop the knowledge competency, being critic, creative, and strategic, culture crossover through adaptability effectively in the cross-cultural environment competence, integrity values, nationalism, and identity.

There were 4 provinces for the national field study, which is Surabaya, Palembang, Yogyakarta, and Lampung. This policy is the implementation of the vision from the central government in enhancing the development of technology in the future not only Java Center industries, but also Indonesia center industries.

Students of Defense Technology faculty of IDU held the national field study in Tanggamus district, Lampung Province started from 26th February until 2nd March.

National field study by the students of defense technology faculty entitled the benefit of Geographic information system (SIG) to support the development plan of BUMNIP in Tanggamus district, Lampung.

Acting Official of regional Secretary of Lampung Province Hamartoni Ahadist represented the Governor of Lampung Didik Suprayitno stated that visitation from IDU is the actual implementation of beneficial cooperation in four fields to maintain the sense of competition to our country especially in Lampung Province. The purpose of national field study from the student of IDU to Lampung is to cooperate in education, cooperation, and contribution to the society and Tanggamus District, Lampung Province. Also with the Technology Institute of Sumatera (ITERA) and PT. Daya Radar Utama. The cooperation was signed with the signing of agreement, held by the rector of IDU Lieutenant General of Indonesia Armed Forces Dr. Yoedhi Swastanto, M.B.A with the Official Acting of Tanggamus Regent Ir. Zainal Abidin, MM. Held in Governor Office of Lampung.

Not only the agreement, students of Defense Technology Faculty of Indonesia Defense University in Lampung also held national Seminar of Defense and State Defense held by IDU and Lampung University which took place at UNILA Bandar Lampung.

On the other hand, students of National Security Faculty of Indonesia Defense University held the national field study in South Sumatera Province and Kodam II/ Sriwijaya.

National field study held by the students of IDU at South Sumatera, Palembang precisely in order to implement the

Tridharma of University which is education, research, and contribution to the society as the implementation of cooperation between government of South Sumatera Province and IDU.

31 students from disaster management study program with the head of the major Colonel. H. Dr. IDK Kerta Widana and the group visited the Regional Development Planning Board (Bappeda), Peace and conflict resolution study program visited the National Unity and Politics Board (Kesbangpol), and Maritime Security visited the Naval Base of Palembang.

The visitation from the students of National Security Faculty was purposing in gain more information of Bappeda role in synergize the regional development plan, especially in disaster

management field. Disaster mitigation is one of the top development priority for the environment. Data and information collected will be beneficial for the students and lecturers as the support system for the research and report which will be presented both in IDU seminar and national journal.

The Head of LP3M of IDU, dean of National Security Faculty, students, and all lecturers from National Security Faculty had a great dinner invitation from the governor of South Sumatera Alex Nurdin which held in official residence

of the Governor. In that opportunity, the Governor of South Sumatera warmly welcome and stated that both the society and the government needed to synergize in protecting, managing.

JakaBaring Sport Center (JSC) as one of the valuable asset belong to South Sumatera Province, as long as our willingness not to trigger the wood fire because it is equal with making loss of our great grandchildren in the future. Therefore, the synergizing between the government, society, and also the companies will be the key of success in supporting the Asian Games.

Every civil servants of regional government of South Sumatera is ready for the 18th Asian Games Event which will be held

started from 18th August until 2nd September 2018.

Students of IDU was having the opportunity to see the venues in Jakabaring Sport Center (JSC), such as Gelora Sriwijaya, Aquatic stadium, Shooting Range and water skies. Some venues were still on building process such as Bus stations for the transportation around JSC environment.

Rusli Nawi, the supervisor of Jakabaring Sport City elaborated the history and the management also disaster mitigation of to prevent any disturbance such as wood fire to the event. Citizens lived around Jakabaring Sport Center empowered by the local government to be the support system in managing the labor surround JSC. The citizens had the opportunity to use the facilities at JSC every Saturday and Sunday. This is purposed to encourage the citizens to have sense of belonging to the JSC and spirited in taking care of JSC as one of the valuable asset belonged to South Sumatera Province. As long as we have willingness, everything is possible and it is meaningless if

we burn our woods because it may cause loss for our great grandchildren (Alex Noerdin). Therefore, synergize between government, society, and the companies will be the key of success in supporting Asian Games.

The visitation continued to PT. Pusri after Jakabaring Sport Center, in order

to know the implementation of national security and defense system also to gain more data related to the role of PT. Pusri Palembang as the company from national security perspective.

The research activity is related to the research from every study programs in national security faculty of IDU such as maritime security, disaster management, and peace and conflict resolution. The visitation was warmly welcomed by the Director of Human

Resource and General PT. Pusri Bob Indiarto accompanied by the General managers of the company.

National field study from students of IDU was also held in Yogyakarta in seminar and IDU’s teaching program held in SMKN 6 Yogyakarta by the students of defense management faculty.

National field study and the seminar with the UPN Veteran Yogyakarta entitled “ Defense and State Defense” held in Mineral technic Faculty Building, National Development University “Veteran” Yogyakarta.

Seminar and IDU’s teaching program was the implementation of contribution to the society, which is to introduce people about the existence of IDU which have vision to produce next leaders who are able to understand the defense system of the state and analyze all issues and conflict from every perspectives. The purpose of this event is to give understanding of state defense based on defense economic perspective in order to build students’ characteristic, be creative and innovative as part of state defense.

IDU’s teaching program as the media to deliver the vision of IDU Academic Society in contributing and development of the state through State Defense and nationalism especially young generation.

Another national field study held by students of Strategic Defense Faculty in East Java, the visitation led by the Dean of Strategic Defense Faculty Major General of Indonesia Armed Forces Dr. Tri Legionosuko, S.IP. Wednesday, 28th January.

During the visitation in regional government of East Java Province, the delegates of IDU warmly welcomed by the regional secretary of East Java Province Dr. H. Akhmad Sukardi. Regional secretary of East Java Province delivered his appreciation

to the visitation. The existence of IDU will be the chance for the East Java’s citizens, especially for parents who want their children to have higher

education with less finance. Therefore, they will have the chance to participate in selection test for the students of IDU.

According to the regional secretary of East Java Province, IDU with “A” accreditation is the extraordinary university.

Learning curriculum is not only about defense but also include social, politic, economy, and the most special thing is IDU accept for full scholarship.

After the visitation at East Java Province office, delegates of IDU visited the East Indonesia Maritime Troops Command, took place at KRI Bima Suci Ballroom anchored at Semampir 1 Port Indonesian Eastern Fleet Command, Surabaya.

Delegates were directly welcomed by the Chief of Naval Operations Commodore I.N.G. Sudihartawan, S.Pi., M.M., which represented the Commander of Indonesian Eastern Fleet Command.

The commander through his speech read by the chief of Naval Operation delivered his gratitude, and proud because Indonesian Eastern Fleet Command became one of destination place for the visitation list from delegates of IDU. They send their gratitude to the delegates of IDU. Indonesian Eastern Fleet Command as part of Indonesia Navy Forces has two

functions, first as the main operation command which responsible to the Chief Commander of Indonesia Armed Forces and supervisor main operation command which responsible to the Chief of Naval Operations, factual, the task finishing in supervising, managing, reparation, and arms and weapons operation fields will be conducted well.

Dean of Strategic Defense Faculty of IDU Major General of Indonesia Armed Forces Dr. Tri Legionosuko, S.IP send his gratitude to the warm welcome from Indonesian Eastern Fleet Command, as well as introducing IDU which on process to achieve the vision of IDU to be the world class university in 2024.

Indonesia Defense University would like to achieve their target to be the world class university and keep maintain the nationalism values and produce intellect generation of State Defense and will be the main defense system belonged to Indonesia.

In order to accomplish the mission, IDU keep developed the quality to pursue international accreditation which main requirement that needs to be full filled. One of the effort is to more focus in developing defense knowledge, theoretically, concepts, and policies.

Delegates of IDU were given the chance to take shots of legendary ship KRI Bima Suci-945 which are the training ship for the cadets and will be the substitute for legendary ship KRI Dewaruci. Operated since 1953.

KRI Bima Suci included in Indonesia Navy Forces Ship Lists as the training ship for the Navy Academy. On the other hand, KRI Bima Suci was also designed by height of mast approximately 111,20 meters, wide 13,65 meters, depth of draft 5,95 meters, and maximum sail mast 49 meters from the upper deck surface. Ship with three bark class has 26 sails with approximately wide area 3.352 meters square. The height of main deck is 9,20 meters from sea surface. The features of KRI Bima Suci is on the sail navigation instruments with higher technology, purification sea water, communication device and digital data.

The national field study at East Indonesia Maritime Troops Command by the delegates of IDU was excited because they got the chance to step on the legendary ship, and to raise the spirit of nationalism.

Defense strategic Faculty of Indonesia Defense University held the strategic defense seminar entitled “Strategy in Facing Radicalism through Cyber Space” at Auditorium of IDU, IPSC Sentul-Bogor, Tuesday, 15th February.

The seminar brought some speakers such as the IT experts Prof. Dr. Richardius Eko Indrajit, M.Sc., M.B.A., Ph.D., member of Presidential Advisory Council Dr. Silverius Yoseph Soeharso, S.Psi., S.E., M.M., lecturer at Pertamina University Dr. Ian Montratama, S.E., M.E.B., M.Si (Han) and Dr. Fetri Miftach, Ph.D., C.Eng., MBCS. Which also the IT experts with the moderator head of sensing technology study program of IDU Colonel Sus Dr. Ir. Rudy Gultom, M.Sc.

Vice Dean of defense strategy faculty Commodore of Indonesia Armed Forces Dr. Suhirwan, S.T., M.MT represented the Rector of IDU to officially open the seminar, in his speech stated that in this technology and information war era will bring both

negative and positive impact to the defense stability of the state. A state which is not able to use the benefit of cyber space and not ready in facing the cyber threat or anticipated the impact or conflict caused by the negative impact of information technology, will be the victim of the information war.

The management of cyber space and strong national cyber security institutions is one of the requirement to achieve good cyber space security and more understanding about the danger of radicalism. More understanding about the values of Pancasila and how important cyber awareness is to strengthen the defense of the society in order to face the threats both outside an inside.

First session of the seminar presented by Prof. Dr. Richardius Eko Indrajit, M.Sc., M.B.A., Ph.D., entitled “Analyze the Radicalism Phenomenon through Social Media”. In his presentation, he was asking for Indonesia’s full control of cyber space, rather than China

which 32 hours watching and filtering the internet with 32.000 personnel’s. Therefore, they need to build strategic intervention in social media to prevent the spread of radicalism such as Cyber principles, Cyber leaderships, Cyber Policy, Cyber coordination, Cyber Literacy.

Second speaker was Dr. Silverius Yoseph Soeharso, S.Psi., S.E., and M.M., entitled “Role of Pancasila to the Young Generation in Facing Radicalism through Cyber Space”. In his presentation, he proposed concept to prevent radicalism through “blue ocean” strategy” which consists of some aspects, such as promote the actualization of Pancasila in public space (cyber), create join forum, reduce all miss values information and degrade Pancasila, counter reduce, eliminate all radicalism sites.

Next presentation delivered by Dr. Ian Montratama, S.E., M.E.B., M.Si (Han) entitled “ Radicalism in Cyber Space and its impact on Regional Security,

and the last presentation delivered by Dr. Fetri Miftach Ph.D., C.Eng., MBCS., entitled “The Development of Cyber Awareness in Indonesia to Fight Against Threats in Cyber Space”. Last session of the seminar is the resume of discussion led by the moderator Colonel Sus Dr. Ir. Rudy Gultom, M.Sc. He reported that radicalism through cyber space needs to be prevented with State Defense strategy and values of Pancasila to the young generation which will be implemented through the cyber space. On the other hand, Seminar of national field study result held by the Defense strategic Faculty of Indonesia Defense University entitled “Spirit of Bung Tomo as the Promoter

of Smart City and Accomplishment of Defense Diplomacy in Surabaya, Wednesday, 28th March.

National field study held in Surabaya started from 25th February until 2nd March 2018. During the field study, delegates of Defense strategy faculty accompanied by the supervisor lecturers to do the researches and contribution to the society.

During field study, students researched by having interview with the sources, forum group discussion, analyze information based on their own

research themes, total war strategy study program’s theme is “ Role of Bung Tomo in Achieving Indonesia Revolution through Surabaya war” Asymmetric Warfare study program’s theme is “ City Government of Surabaya’s Strategy in Accomplishing Cyber City” and Defense Diplomacy study Program’s theme is “ Indonesia’s cooperation with Foreign Partner in Developing the Defense Diplomacy”. National field study was also completed with IDU’s teaching program in Senior High Schools with State Defense lesson.

The purpose of the seminar is to reflect the result of the research related to

the State Defense, especially in Non-military defense strategy found by the students. Learning process during the field study mainly focus to implement knowledge during class session in order to create strategic ways based on defense knowledge in building the synergy of Non-Military defense with role of regional government as the main aspect to face the threats, especially the actual threats such as terrorism, radicalism, cyber threats, and cooperation both defense diplomacy and economy.

Rector of IDU hoped that this seminar will give benefit for the students, especially in supporting learning process for the students of Defense strategy faculty batch 2017-2018 which already in second semester.

This seminar contain with educative and transformative to the understanding and new perspectives in state defense strategy especially in terrorism prevention, radicalism, and any cooperation in defense diplomacy and economy.

Dean of Defense Strategy Faculty of IDU stated that the defense system of the state cannot be separated by the development perspective of

global strategy, regional, and national which trigged contemporary conflicts where to rule the space cannot be done frontally, but with non-traditional way, directly, and proxy war.

New trend to rule the state by using asymmetric weapons which built systematically. This condition was created through propaganda by using the development of information technology and cyber space such as social media.

Serious conflict such as contemporary conflict consisted of internal conflict, which may trigger the separatism movement because of its political and other interests behind it, also social conflict happen in few states with social dynamic, culture, primordialism, tribes, race, and religion.

Economy globalization gave impact on economic cooperation in a state significantly. This trigged Surabaya to raise the Motto “to be the independent and prosper East Java” means that East Java with strategic position as economic center. Economic potential of East Java is at advantage as the national producer especially for Salt, sugar, and tobacco. East Java was also the 3rd biggest province in producing oils.

Next Seminar of national field study Result held by Defense Management Faculty entitled “Accelerating the regional Potential of Human resources, Economy, and Energy through the Development of Regional Security in DI Yogyakarta, Wednesday, 4th April.

The seminar invited several speakers as seminar reviewers such as Head of Sub-Directorate of Local Development Planning Territory III Kalimantan St. Rno Budi Sasotyo, ST, Dr. Susilo Widodo, the staff of State Minister for Acceleration Development Backward Regions, and Ir. Bambang Wicaksono, lecturer of UPN.

Rector of IDU Lieutenant General of Indonesia Armed Forces Dr. Yoedhi Swastanto, M.B.A stated that this seminar is the result of national field study which purposing in reflected the research activity through the development of local potential through human resources, economy, and energy related to the defense system of DIY, especially in Non-military defense system. This seminar also contain of deep learning process and students were able to implement defense knowledge given during college comprehensively.

National field study is also the socialization media to the society by developing defense knowledge based on the perspectives on how to build the synergy of State defense. Through the Non-military defense system, which prioritize the role of regional government as the main support system in facing the actual

threats such as terrorism, radicalism, and cyber threats, also cooperation in economic field. All activity must become our passion to love our nation as delegates of IDU.

as the keynote speaker stated that State defense is also the national defense, which all efforts to maintain the sovereignty of the state, and the prosperity of the nations can be defined through civil and military. To ensure the territory integrity, protection to keep the interest.

On the other hand, from defense economic perspective, local potential must be developed with using Natural resources and create economy activity to achieve the prosperity of society. Such as seas, trades, industries, agriculture, tourism, transportation and mining sector. The implementation of natural resources as economic capital must be implemented wisely by created the balance situation, harmony, and treated well.

From Defense management perspective, as the source of local potential who play important role is the implementation of human resources as the productive resources to manage potential resources to support local defense. It needs well management.

From Energy security perspective, as the source of local potential, management of natural resources will create new renewable energy. Therefore, to raise the potential of local territory and create strong defense system of the state and integrated.

The integration of management of national resources in every region will be the strength of future defense.

The result of national field study proved that Yogyakarta has so many potential resources. Actual potential resources in DI Yogyakarta based on defense perspective such as General defense aspect, defense economy aspect, defense management aspect, and energy security aspect. On the other hand, national security faculty held national field study in South Sumatera entitled “ the synergized of Government, Citizens, and Companies in South Sumatera to Support Defense System of the State (In Management of Conflict, Disaster, and Maritime), Wednesday, 11th April.

Rector of IDU stated that objects and target which purpose of the research consisted of three aspects maritime, conflict and disaster. First aspect Maritime, where the government declared that Indonesia as the global maritime fulcrum. This situation historically analyzed by the students of IDU about role of Palembang which the history focus on Sriwijaya Kingdom who rule the trade in national for 500 years with strength of naval troops and ruler of trade line between India and China also Malaka bay and Sunda Bay.

Second aspect is conflict. In this perspective, the society within South Sumatera consisted of tribes, religion, races, and if it was not managed well, there will be clashes trigged and threaten peace. This was because the causes of conflict came from many perspectives, therefore it needs to create harmony society.

Next is Disaster aspect, where geography condition of Indonesia which famous with the rings of fire, and the natural geography surrounded by 3 active plates Indo-Australia, Eurasia, and pacific which unstable under land

surface to be the actual threats. South Sumatera is also fragile to the season changing, because of fire woods and land, which will be the biggest threats, because it was rising year after year based on the phenomenon of season changing and nature management, unwisely protection of the woods and

land territory, also to decide the active respond area Karhutla.

Based on another aspect, in the meantime, Palembang will be the host of Asian Games 2018, which need any preventive acts intensively and more intensive to the firewood so it will not give impact of Indonesia’s reputation

during the event.

In this seminar, three presenters presented their own presentation based on their own study programs which are disaster management with the theme “the synergy of Stakeholder in Disaster mitigation of Firewood in South Sumatera presented by Ruzwar Wahyudi. Peace and conflict Resolution study program with the theme Conflict prevention Framework, the regional government in managing the multidimensional conflict potential in Palembang by Lisa Ratna Wulan, and Maritime Security study program with the theme Maritime Domain Awareness in Institutions of South Sumatera Province.

This seminar contained of three session which the first session is presentation of research result from National field study from National security faculty of IDU, second session was the responds from the reviewer related to the researches, questions and answers session between the

participants and the presenters also the reviewers. In this seminar also entertained by the acoustic band presented by the students of IDU. The seminar ended with took together photos and changing placard with the sources.

Mass Media has a very important role for the spread of information to the wider community as well as the role to defend the country. Mass Media can be utilized to publish Educational, Research, and Community Service activities conducted by Academic Society of Indonesia Defense University.

Indonesia Defense University is led by the Rector of the Indonesia Defense University to establish a synergic relationship with Mass Media through Coffee Morning / Gathering activities as well as for the socialization of the Indonesia Defense University so that its existence as a Defense University Science is better known by the public.

The Gathering with the crew of mass media both print and electronic with the theme “Through the spirit of State Defense we improve Relationship and Synergistic University Synergist Rule - Mass Media, Thursday (5/4).

On this occasion the Rector of the Indonesia Defense University expressed his gratitude for the presence of media crews on the campus of the Indonesia Defense University, during his Speech in this Gathering, he aims to improve the positive news for the public, especially about the role of the world of education, especially the Indonesia Defense University.

Mass Media has a very strategic role in the sense that the current state of mass media has a very big role and has a very strong influence that makes the mass media as the center of public attention to know and seek various information.

The role of mass media is very important as a source of knowledge, the amount of information or issues that occur in the country and abroad will be directly accepted by the community, however those information must be filtered first so that no errors of information that will cause disputes and wrong understanding.

Mass media as part of education in the sense of mass media that disseminate a wide range of information should be able to perform its function as part of education. The mass communication system in Indonesia is expected to always provide reliable, actual, and latest information and should educate the community better. The mass media

should not preach provocative news which results disunity and conflict.

According to the Rector of the Indonesia Defense University, the importance of journalistic code of ethics or ethics code of journalists which is the ethics and standards of journalism consisting of ethical principles and good practice for journalists in carrying out their duties. The journalistic code of ethics is usually composed by professional journalistic associations as well as print organizations, online media and

Broadcasting. The journalistic code of ethics has the same principles, which are; truth, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness, and public accountability.

The Rector expects good cooperation and participation of mass media in informing the progress and development of the Indonesia Defense University to the public, both nationally, regionally and internationally, so that in 2024 the Indonesia Defense University becomes World Class Defense University.

This gathering activity was also filled with explanations from Brigadier General of Indonesia Armed Forces Drs. Wibisono Poespitohadi, M.Sc., M.Sc. (Han), Secretary of Research and Citizens’ Contribution Institution (LP2M) Indonesia Defense University as Vice Chairman 2 of IIDSS, which is planned on July 11-12, Indonesia Defense University will hold an international seminar, Indonesia International Defense Science Seminar or IIDSS is a seminar on International Defense Sciences. The speakers that presented are the Defense Experts both from within the country and abroad.
