Welcome to the Sale!Welcome to the first annual C2 Charolais Bull Sale. After replaying and planning this day in my head for years, our first bull sale is finally here. We are thrilled to offer you this impressive group of yearling bulls. Char cross calves have never been more in demand and more needed by the cattle industry. Charolais are the true leaders, allowing all facets to be profitable; cow/calf, feedlot and the packer. I loved the phrase “charnomics”, when I first heard it at a T Bar sale many years ago. It just makes sense. Charolais are the only breed of cattle that will make you more money without changing anything else in your program. Nothing else in agriculture can do that! With trends moving to later calving to lessen the work load, the Charolais advantage is needed to keep feeding profitable and carcass sizes adequate. After all, we are all in the business of producing beef. Charolais are poised to be at the forefront of every profitable operation.

Our bulls are developed gently on a corn silage based TMR. We feed them for optimum performance, not maximum gain. We believe that we are developing and training athletes for you. The goal is for you to own your new bull longer than we did.

This powerful set of bulls are polled, rugged and are sired by many of the leading sires in the industry. For those who require more color in their calves, several bulls carry the red factor. The Charolais influence at the market place is very dominant…more pounds of calf at weaning that will be features in any auction market across the nation. Simply put, more pounds, a premium sale day and “more cash in your jeans!” Those who choose to keep F1 replacements will find that they turn into deep bodied, broody females that will work with all types of sires. There is a bonus raising Charolais, it’s the salvage value when they go to town, as they will weigh over 30% more than other breed counterparts.

“Here at C2 Charolais, we run our cowherd the same as most commercial cattlemen, with profit being at the forefront. We graze our cows as long as possible, running an intensive grazing system through the growing season. With land prices skyrocketing, this system has allowed us to increase our stocking rate. Now, on 100 acres we run 50 pairs compared to 25 pairs in the past with continuous grazing. While this method does lend itself to a bit of a sacrifice of individual weaning weight, we are weaning more pounds per acre than ever before. The land has benefited greatly, seeing a reemergence of alfalfa and limiting weeds.”

Homo PolledHere is a prime example of the great birth weight debate. This bull has frame and length and also had that as a calf. He was born unassisted out of a mature 1700 lb. cow. “Creep feeding is a challenge for us. While we see the benefits, it just doesn’t fit for us with the cattle moving all the time from paddock to paddock throughout the summer. Once we get closer to weaning, we introduce supplemental creep feed about 10 days to two weeks as an aid in the weaning process. Our cattle are selected for natural growth, not manufactured numbers. “In the fall of 2017, we purchased a group of Black Angus cross Simmental commercial heifer calves. The purpose of this is to rebuild our commercial herd, and show the benefits of our Charolais bulls first hand. We turned out two Charolais bulls and one Black Angus bull and left the rest up to mother nature. This will be an ongoing project and we will be tracking results right through from calving to slaughter. Charolais bulls on black cows has become an obsession for me. I believe there is a beneficial partnership with this combination of breeding.”
