Jesus overcomes temptation through fasting (Mt 4:1-11) Bible reading for Feb 10, 2013

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil.

2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

3 The tempter came to him and said, If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.

4 Jesus answered, It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes

from the mouth of God.

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.

6 If you are the Son of God, he said, throw yourself down. For it is written:

He will command his angels concerning you,

and they will lift you up in their hands,

so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

7 Jesus answered him, It is also written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all thekingdoms of the world and their splendor.

9 All this I will give you, he said, if you will

bow down and worship me.

10 Jesus said to him, Away from me, Satan! For it is written:

Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.

11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Dear friends:

The season of Lent will start from February 11th with Ash Monday. There will be Mass and

distribution of Ashes at 7.00 PM. Lent time is the best time for improving our faith level and

experience Jesus Christ in a special way. There is couple of faith formation events arranged

with the Lent. Please be part of those programs.

There is a retreat arranged for Youth on February 8,9,10 at Cabrini Retreat center, Des Plains.

Those who have registered, please come in time. I express sincere thanks for those who volunteered for th

retreat program for our youth

Mar Joseph Njaralakkat Bishop of Mandya, India is visiting our Parish month of February. He will give Lent

reections on Friday 22nd through 23rd. All are welcome. Friday 6-9PM Saturday 9.30 AM to 4.00 PM.

Sunday during the Mass timings.

The Vincentian Fathers are giving a retreat on Feb 28 through March 3rd in our church. The registration fee

has been waved. The timing will be: 6-9 PM on Feb. 28; 9.30 am to 4.30pm on March 1st and 2nd

(Friday and Saturday); 10.30 am to 5.00 PM on March 3rd (Sunday)

SMYO: is collecting canned food. Please join this noble venture
