Ice Cream For The SoulIce Cream For The SoulIce Cream For The SoulIce Cream For The Soul Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, “God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen.” Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, “That’s what’s wrong with this country. Kids today don’t even know how to pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never! “Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, “Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?” As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, “I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer.” “Really?” my son asked. “Cross my heart.” Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), “Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes.” Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, “Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes, and my soul is good already. *

THE PROFESSION OF FAITH: THE NICENE CREED: ALL: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven
and earth, of all that is seen or unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.

As a part of our celebrations commemorating the establishment of our Diocese 150 years ago, each Anglican is called upon to make a sacrificial offering to God for the advancement of His Church, and the wider community. The Anglican Thank Offering calls on each one of us to give according to our ability during the celebration year 2011. Sixty percent (60%) of the Offering will go to assist in the ministries and programmes of the Diocese, with 20% going to assist with social outreach and educational programmes of our church, and 20% will be used in your local parish in its programmes and ministries.
Each adult person is encouraged to give in the amounts as follows:
• Persons may give using special envelopes provided at their local parish.
• Persons may give using post dated cheques and given at their local parish. (Cheques are to be made payable to “The Anglican Thank Offering”.)
• Persons may give using their credit or debit card online at the Diocesan website - www.bahamas.anglican.org.
• Persons may use the facility provided on the Diocesan website - www.bahamas.anglican.org, to contribute via Bill Pay through their local commercial bank.
Registration for the Anglican Thank Offering can be done in two ways:

Renewal
A healthy church is one that has the character of renewal. Check again the first church, as we see it in the Acts of the Apostles. Components of this renewal were: commitment to prayer, study, fellowship, and worship. The church was driven by these practices. We can say that indeed the church was on fire as great and nigh humanly impossible things were being accomplished. What a rapid growing church! Study it again with an intentional eye for renewal.
We at St. Gregory must lay hold and claim this very same ideal of renewal. How can we do it today? Well, yes, our leaders must give leadership in this the spiritual thrust of the parish. This is the main business of the parish. Without it we die. I urge us to lift the prayer and study components up high. I urge an intentional effort to have St. Gregory known for a great study centre. Now that our WALK THROUGH THE BIBLE SERIES is on the road; let’s push this one. Our doctrinal teaching on Sunday evenings at Evensong is now getting out of the gate.
For the last time of asking we are appealing for MEN TO REGISTER for the upcoming MEN’S CURSILLO WEEKEND that takes place the first weekend in June. This is the flagship renewal programme of the Anglican Diocese where I serve as Spiritual Director. Thus far no one has registered. I urge CURSILLIASTAS to assist in identifying and encouraging men to attend. Time is against us right now. We give you a guarantee; you will not regret attending such a renewal exercise. Many of us have found our new birth in Christ through the Cursillo Movement which has turned our Diocese around. To God Alone Be the Glory! Please contact me with any questions.
It is my good hope that one day soon we will raise up leaders to begin work on our own Discovery Programme here at St. Gregory. But, one thing at a time. Let us commit to the renewal ministries as a gift of the Holy Spirit to the church and by extension to everyone of us.
God is counting on you...
Ministries Update: Three parishioners- Don Johnson, Anita King and Rosamund Stubbs have commenced training for Pastoral Care and Counseling.
The Family Life and Health Care Ministries workshop is this Thursday night at 7:30 pm. We urgently need at least twelve persons here. We have room for more. Please let us know if you so desire.
The Altar Guild Ministry has started—more on this later.
