Ice Cream For The SoulIce Cream For The SoulIce Cream For The SoulIce Cream For The Soul Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, “God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen.” Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, “That’s what’s wrong with this country. Kids today don’t even know how to pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never! “Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, “Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?” As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, “I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer.” “Really?” my son asked. “Cross my heart.” Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), “Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes.” Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, “Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes, and my soul is good already. *

Celebrant: Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia! ALL: For the Lord has risen indeed. Alleluia!

Celebrant: Let us pray, O God, Who by the resurrection of thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ,

hast vouchsafed to give joy to the whole world; grant, we beseech Thee, that through the help of his Mother, the Virgin Mary, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life; through the same Christ our Lord.

ALL: Amen.

THE DISMISSAL: Celebrant: Go in peace and serve the Lord. Alleluia, alleluia! ALL: In the Name of Christ. Amen. Alleluia, alleluia!

RECESSIONAL HYMN — 7:00 AM …………………………………. A&M 125

RECESSIONAL HYMN — 9:30 AM ………… “KEEP ON THE FIRING LINE”

If you’re in the battle for the Lord and right, keep on the firing line; If you win, my brother, surely you must fight, keep on the firing line; There are many dangers that we all must face, If we die still fighting it is no disgrace; Cowards in the service will not find a place, so keep on the firing line.

Oh, you must fight, be brave against all evil, Never run, nor even lag behind; If you would win for God and the right, Just keep on the firing line.

God will only use the soldier He can trust, keep on the firing line; If you’ll wear a crown then bear the cross you must, keep on the firing line. Life is but to labour for the Master dear, Help to banish evil and to spread good cheer; Great you’ll be rewarded for your service here, so keep on the firing line.

When we get to heaven, brother, we’ll be glad, keep on the firing line; How we’ll praise the Saviour for the call we had, keep on the firing line; When we see the souls that we have helped to win, Leading them to Jesus, from the paths of sin, With a shout of welcome, we will all march in, so keep on the firing line.

Ye choirs of new Jerusalem, Your sweetest notes employ, The Paschal victory to hymn In strains of holy joy.

For Judah’s Lion bursts His chains, Crushing the serpent’s head; And cries aloud through death’s domains To wake the imprison’d dead.

Devouring depths of hell their prey At His command restore; His ransomed hosts pursue their way Where Jesus goes before.

Triumphant in His glory now To Him all power is given; To Him in one communion bow All saints in earth and heaven.

While we, His soldiers, praise our King, His mercy we implore, Within His palace bright to bring And keep us evermore.

All glory to the Father be, All glory to the Son, All glory, Holy Ghost, to thee, While endless ages run.

THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

I Am the Way, and the Truth,

and the Life

PROCESSIONAL HYMN ………………….………………………………..A&M 302

INTROIT HYMN ………………….…………………. “THIS IS THE DAY MEDLEY”

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON — EASTER: Celebrant: Alleluia! The Lord is risen indeed. Come let us adore Him. Alleluia!

Celebrant: Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Alleluia! Alleluia!

Come, ye faithful, raise the anthem, Cleave the skies with shouts of praise; Sing to Him Who found the ransom, Ancient of eternal days, God of God, the Word Incarnate, Whom the Heav’n of Heav’n obeys.

Ere He raised the lofty mountains, Form’d the seas, or built the sky, Love eternal, free, and boundless, Moved the Lord of Life to die, Fore-ordain’d the Prince of princes For the Throne of Calvary.

There, for us and our redemption, See Him all His Life-blood pour! There He wins our full salvation, Dies that we may die no more; Then, arising, lives for ever, Reigning where He was before.

High on yon celestial mountains Stands His gem-built Throne, all bright, Midst unending Alleluias Bursting from the sons of light; Sion’s people tell His praises, Victor after hard-won fight.

Bring your harps, and bring your odours, Sweep the string and pour the lay; Let the earth proclaim His wonders, King of that celestial day; He the Lamb once slain is worthy, Who was dead, and lives for aye.

Laud and honour to the Father, Laud and honour to the Son, Laud and honour to the Spirit, Ever Three and ever One, Consubstantial, Co-eternal, While unending ages run.

THIS IS THE DAY This is the day, that the Lord has made, I will rejoice, and be glad in it. This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made.

WE BRING THE SACRIFICE OF PRAISE We bring the sacrifice of praise, into the House of the Lord. And we offer unto You, the sacrifices of thanksgiving, And we offer unto You, the sacrifices of joy.

I WILL ENTER HIS GATES I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart, I will enter His courts with praise. I will say this is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice for He has made me glad.

He has made me glad, He has made me glad, I will rejoice for He has made me glad.

I’M SO GLAD JESUS LIFTED ME I’m so glad Jesus lifted me, I’m so glad Jesus lifted me, I’m so glad Jesus lifted me, I’m singing, glory hallelujah, Jesus lifted me.

*Satan had me bound, but Jesus set me free... *When I was in trouble, Jesus lifted me... *On my way to heaven shouting the victory...

IN THE NAME OF JESUS In the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus, we have the victory. In the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus, Satan will have to flee. Who can ever stand before us, When we call on that great Name? Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, We have the victory!

21

Since I met the Blessed Saviour, Since He cleansed and made me whole, I will never cease to Praise Him! I’ll shout it while eternity rolls.

COMMUNION HYMN ……………………………….. “SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL”

Something beautiful, something good, All my confusion, He understood, All I had to offer Him was loneliness and strife, But He made something beautiful of my life.

Something generous, something kind, He gave me vision, When I’d been blind. All I had was weariness, from playing out my role, But He made something beautiful of my soul.

Something mystical, something pure, He took my doubting, and made me sure, All I had was emptiness, to His love I was blind; But He gave peace and harmony to my mind.

Something beautiful, something fine, He came and softened this heart of mine. All I had was selfishness just tearing me apart, But He made something beautiful in my heart.

Something beautiful, something good, All my confusion, He understood, All I had to offer Him was loneliness and strife, But He made something beautiful of my life.

COMMUNION HYMN …………………………………………………...…. A&M 558

CHILDREN’S BLESSING — 9:30 AM ………….... “JESUS BIDS US SHINE”

Please kneel.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER – FORM A: ALL: Almighty Father, we thank You for feeding us with the Body and

Blood of Your Son Jesus Christ. May we who share His Body live His risen life; we who drink His cup bring life to others; we upon whom Your Spirit shines give light to the world. Help us to continue in faithful witness to Your Word, so we and all Your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise Your Name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE BLESSING — EASTER: Celebrant: The God of Peace, Who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus,

that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the Blood of the eternal covenant, make you perfect in ever good work to do His will, working in You that which is well-pleasing in His sight; and the blessing of

O Jesus, Blessed Lord, to Thee My heartfelt thanks for ever be, Who hast so lovingly bestow’d On me Thy Body and Thy Blood.

Break forth, my soul, for joy, and say What wealth is come to me to-day! My Saviour dwells within me now; How blest am I! how good art Thou!

Jesus bids us shine with a clear, pure light, Like a little candle burning in the night; In this world of darkness, we must shine, You in your small corner, and I in mine.

Jesus bids us shine, first of all for Him; Well He sees and knows it if our light is dim; He looks down from heaven, sees us shine, You in your small corner, and I in mine.

Jesus bids us shine, then, for all around, Many kinds of darkness in this world abound: Sin, and want, and sorrow—we must shine, You in your small corner, and I in mine.

20

Let faith and love increase in us. Unite us with all Bishops, all other ministers of Your Word and Sacraments, and with the whole people of God, living and departed, whom You have made for Yourself.

Confirm us in holiness, that we may be found ready to join the company of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Apostles, St. Gregory and all Your saints, when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again: forever giving You thanks and praise through Him from Whom all good things do come.

With Him and in Him and through Him, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we worship You, Father Almighty, with all who stand before You in earth and heaven, in songs of everlasting praise:

ALL: Blessing and honour and glory and power be Yours forever and ever. Amen.

Please stand.

THE LORD’S PRAYER: Celebrant: As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray: ALL: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name; Your kingdom

come; Your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours now and forever. Amen.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD — FORM A: Celebrant: We break this Bread to share in the Body of Christ. ALL: Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in

one Bread.

THE INVITATION — FORM A: Celebrant: My brothers and sisters in Christ, draw near and receive the Body

which He gave for you, and His Blood, which He shed for you. Remember that He died for you, and feed on Him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving.

ALL: Grant gracious Lord, that we so eat the flesh of Your dear Son Jesus Christ, and drink His Blood, that we may evermore dwell in Him and He in us.

THE AGNUS DEI: ALL: Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world: have mercy on

us. Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world: grant us peace.

COMMUNION HYMN ………..……………………….….. “HE TOUCHED ME”

Shackled by a heavy burden, ‘Neath a load of guilt and shame. Then the Hand of Jesus touched me, And now I am no longer the same.

He touched me, O, He touched me, And O the joy that floods my soul. Something happened and now I know, He touched me and made me whole.

PRAYER BEFORE COMMUNION Father in Heaven, You have made us for Yourself; our hearts are restless until they rest in You. Fulfill this longing through Jesus, the Bread of Life, so that we may witness to Him Who alone satisfies the hungers of the human family. By the power of Your Spirit lead us to the Heavenly Table where we may feast on the vision of Your glory for ever and ever. Amen.

5

ALL: And blessed be His Kingdom, now and forever. Amen. Alleluia! Alleluia!

Celebrant: Blessed Lord and Father, ALL: we have assembled in Your Name and in fellowship with one

another. Enable us by Your grace to offer the sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; to proclaim and respond to Your Holy Word. Teach us to pray for Your world and Your Church. Grant that we, confessing our sins, may worthily offer to You our souls and bodies as a living sacrifice and eat and drink of Your spiritual food in this Holy Sacrament. Amen.

COLLECT FOR PURITY: ALL: Almighty God, to You all hearts are open, all desires known, and

from You no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love You, and worthily magnify Your Holy Name, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE KYRIE: ALL: Lord, have mercy; Lord, have mercy; Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy; Christ, have mercy; Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy; Lord, have mercy; Lord, have mercy.

THE GLORIA: Celebrant: Glory to God in the highest, ALL: and peace to His people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King,

Almighty God and Father, we worship You, we give You thanks, we praise You for Your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; You are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For You alone are the Holy One; You alone are the Lord: You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE COLLECT FOR THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER: Celebrant: The Lord be with you. ALL: And also with you.

Celebrant: Let us pray.

Almighty God, Whom truly to know is everlasting life: Grant us so perfectly to know Your Son Jesus Christ to be the way, the truth, and the life, that we may steadfastly follow His steps in the way that leads to eternal life; through Jesus Christ Your Son our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

ALL: Amen.

Please sit.

+ FIRST LESSON +

Reader: A Reading from the Word of God written in Acts 7:55-60.

55 But filled with the Holy Spirit, he gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” 57 But they covered their ears, and with a loud shout all rushed together against him. 58 Then they dragged him out of the city and began to stone him; and the

witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59 While they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he knelt down and cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he died. Reader: The Word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God.

PSALM 31:1-5, 15-16.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, As it was in the beginning is now, and shall be forever. Amen.

+ SECOND LESSON +

Reader: A Reading from the Word of God written in 1 Peter 2:2-10.

2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation— 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

4 Come to Him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God’s sight, and 5 like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For it stands in scripture: “See, I Am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious; and whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.”

7 To you then who believe, He is precious; but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the very head of the corner,” 8 and “A stone that makes them stumble, and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,

19

Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. ALL: It is right to give God thanks and praise.

Celebrant: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give You thanks, Father almighty, everlasting God:

PREFACE OF EASTER:

But chiefly are we bound to praise You for the glorious resurrection of Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for He is the true Paschal Lamb, Who was sacrificed for us, and has taken away the sin of the world. By His death He destroyed death, and by His rising to life again He has won for us eternal life.

Therefore we praise You, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of Your Name:

Please kneel (at the conclusion of the prayer).

ALL: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might; heaven and earth are full of Your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Celebrant: All Holy and glorious Father, our Creator God. We give You thanks because in Your loving wisdom You brought all things into being, and are truly worthy of praise from every creature You have made.

Again and again we have turned away from You: yet in every age Your steadfast love has called us to return to live in union with You: for it is Your eternal purpose to put new life into all things and make them holy.

Through Your Son, Jesus Christ who took our human nature upon Him You have redeemed the world from the bondage of sin: and by the power of Your Holy Spirit You have gathered a people to Yourself, to make known in every place His perfect offering which He made to the glory of Your Name.

Hear us, therefore, Father, through Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord; and grant that these gifts of bread and wine may be unto us His Body and Blood.

For, on the night He was betrayed He took bread, and when He had given thanks to You, He broke it and gave it to His disciples and said: “Take this, and eat it: This is My Body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of Me.”

And after supper He took the cup of wine: and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is My Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of Me.”

Celebrant: Let us proclaim the mystery of our faith. ALL: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Celebrant: And so, Heavenly Father, rejoicing in His Holy Incarnation, His Blessed Passion and His Perfect Sacrifice made once for all upon the Cross; His Mighty Resurrection from the dead: His Glorious Ascension into heaven: and looking for His Coming in glory; we offer to You this Bread and this Cup.

We pray that You will accept this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; and grant that all who eat and drink of the Body and Blood, of Your Son, our great High Priest, may be renewed by Your Holy Spirit, and be one Body, one Spirit, in Him.

OFFERTORY HYMN — 7:00 AM …………………………………..... A&M 136

COLLECTION — 9:30 AM ………………. ST. GREGORY’S SENIOR CHOIR

THE PRESENTATION OF THE OFFERING: ALL: Praise God from Whom all blessing flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below,

Praise Him, above ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Celebrant Father, we offer You these gifts which You have given us; & People: this bread, this wine, this money. With them we offer ourselves,

our lives, and our work, to become through Your Holy Spirit a reasonable, holy, and lively sacrifice. As this bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ, so may we and all Your people become channels of Your love; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

OFFERTORY HYMN 2 ………………………………………... “LIVING BY FAITH” THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER — FORM A: Celebrant: The Lord be with you. ALL: And also with you.

Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. ALL: We lift them up to the Lord.

Christ the Lord is risen again; Christ hath broken every chain; Hark! Angelic voices cry, Singing evermore on high, Alleluia!

He, Who gave for us His life, Who for us endured the strife, Is our Paschal Lamb to-day; We too sing for joy, and say Alleluia!

He, Who bore all pain and loss Comfortless upon the cross, Lives in glory now on high, Pleads for us, and hears our cry; Alleluia!

He, Who slumber’d in the grave, Is exalted now to save; Now through Christendom it rings That the Lamb is King of kings. Alleluia!

Now He bids tell abroad How the lost may be restored, How the penitent forgiven, How we too may enter Heav’n. Alleluia!

Thou, our Paschal Lamb indeed, Christ, Thy ransom’d people feed: Take our sins and guilt away, Let us sing by night and day Alleluia!

Living by faith in Jesus above,

Trusting, confiding in His great love; From all harm safe in His sheltering arm,

I’m living by faith and feel no alarm.

I care not today what the morrow may bring, If shadow or sunshine or rain.

The Lord, I know, ruleth o’er everything. And all of my worry is vain.

Tho’ tempests may blow and the storm clouds arise;

Obscuring the brightness of life. I’m never alarmed at the overcast skies,

The Master looks on at the strife.

I know that He safely will carry me thro’ No matter what evils betied; Why should I then care,

tho’ the tempest may blow, If Jesus walks close to my side.

“Our lord will return to this earth some sweet day,

Our troubles will then all be o’er, The Master so gently will lead us away,

Beyond that blest heavenly shore.”

+ THE GOSPEL +

Reader: The Lord be with you. Response: And also with you. Reader: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 14:1-14. Response: Glory to Christ our Saviour.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself, so that where I Am, there you may be also. 4 And you know the way to the place where I Am going.’ 5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 7 If you know Me, you will know My Father also. From now on you do know Him and

Rise, O church, and lift your voices, Christ has conquered death and hell. Sing as all the earth rejoices; Resurrection anthems swell. Come and worship, come and worship, Worship Christ, the Risen King!

See the tomb where death had laid Him, Empty now, its mouth declares; “Death and I could not contain Him, For the Throne of Life He shares.” Come and worship, come and worship, Worship Christ, the Risen King!

Hear the earth protest and tremble, See the stone removed with pow’r; All hell’s minions may assemble But cannot withstand His hour. He has conquered, He has conquered, Christ the Lord, the Risen King!

Doubt may lift its head to murmur, Scoffers mock and sinners jeer; But the truth proclaims a wonder Thoughtful hearts receive with cheer. He is risen, He is risen, Now receive the Risen King!

We acclaim Your life, O Jesus, Now we sing Your victory; Sin or hell may seek to seize us But Your conquest keeps us free. Stand in triumph, stand in triumph, Worship Christ, the Risen King!

have seen Him.”

8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know Me? Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”? 10 Do you not believe that I Am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own; but the Father Who dwells in Me does His works. 11 Believe Me that I Am in the Father and the Father is in Me; but if you do not, then believe Me because of the works themselves. 12 Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I Am going to the Father. 13 I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If in My name you ask Me for anything, I will do it. Reader: This is the Gospel of Christ. Response: Praise To Christ Our Lord.

POST-GOSPEL HYMN ………………………………………..…. “HE IS LORD”

He is Lord, He is Lord, He has risen from the dead, and He is Lord. Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess,

That Jesus Christ is Lord.

You’re my Lord...

SERMON ………………. THE REV’D S. SEBASTIAN CAMPBELL

THE PROFESSION OF FAITH: THE NICENE CREED: ALL: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven

and earth, of all that is seen or unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

As a part of our celebrations commemorating the establishment of our Diocese 150 years ago, each Anglican is called upon to make a sacrificial offering to God for the advancement of His Church, and the wider community. The Anglican Thank Offering calls on each one of us to give according to our ability during the celebration year 2011. Sixty percent (60%) of the Offering will go to assist in the ministries and programmes of the Diocese, with 20% going to assist with social outreach and educational programmes of our church, and 20% will be used in your local parish in its programmes and ministries.

Each adult person is encouraged to give in the amounts as follows:

• Persons may give using special envelopes provided at their local parish.

• Persons may give using post dated cheques and given at their local parish. (Cheques are to be made payable to “The Anglican Thank Offering”.)

• Persons may give using their credit or debit card online at the Diocesan website - www.bahamas.anglican.org.

• Persons may use the facility provided on the Diocesan website - www.bahamas.anglican.org, to contribute via Bill Pay through their local commercial bank.

Registration for the Anglican Thank Offering can be done in two ways:

• By filling out a triplicate pledge form at your local parish.

• Electronically via the Diocesan Website - www.bahamas.anglican.org.

The Anglican Thank Offering begins on Sunday, 6th March, 2011 and ends on Sunday, 29th January, 2012.

Our Church has led the way in uplifting and building the spiritual and national life of the Bahamas and The Turks and Caicos Islands. God has wonderfully blessed us over these many years, and we have so much to give God thanks for. No better way to do this than to give a meaningful gift back to God, to enhance and to make stronger the mission and ministry of our Diocese, our local Parish and the wider community to equip them in meeting the challenges ahead. Your generous support is prayerfully requested. *

Renewal

A healthy church is one that has the character of renewal. Check again the first church, as we see it in the Acts of the Apostles. Components of this renewal were: commitment to prayer, study, fellowship, and worship. The church was driven by these practices. We can say that indeed the church was on fire as great and nigh humanly impossible things were being accomplished. What a rapid growing church! Study it again with an intentional eye for renewal.

We at St. Gregory must lay hold and claim this very same ideal of renewal. How can we do it today? Well, yes, our leaders must give leadership in this the spiritual thrust of the parish. This is the main business of the parish. Without it we die. I urge us to lift the prayer and study components up high. I urge an intentional effort to have St. Gregory known for a great study centre. Now that our WALK THROUGH THE BIBLE SERIES is on the road; let’s push this one. Our doctrinal teaching on Sunday evenings at Evensong is now getting out of the gate.

For the last time of asking we are appealing for MEN TO REGISTER for the upcoming MEN’S CURSILLO WEEKEND that takes place the first weekend in June. This is the flagship renewal programme of the Anglican Diocese where I serve as Spiritual Director. Thus far no one has registered. I urge CURSILLIASTAS to assist in identifying and encouraging men to attend. Time is against us right now. We give you a guarantee; you will not regret attending such a renewal exercise. Many of us have found our new birth in Christ through the Cursillo Movement which has turned our Diocese around. To God Alone Be the Glory! Please contact me with any questions.

It is my good hope that one day soon we will raise up leaders to begin work on our own Discovery Programme here at St. Gregory. But, one thing at a time. Let us commit to the renewal ministries as a gift of the Holy Spirit to the church and by extension to everyone of us.

God is counting on you...

Ministries Update: Three parishioners- Don Johnson, Anita King and Rosamund Stubbs have commenced training for Pastoral Care and Counseling.
