United States Captain Sean Rooney: “In the fi nals you have to expect that a team not only will play their best against us but also will be more aggressive than last me. Last me we beat them pre y handily. Their only choice is to step up their game from the service line and be more aggressive in a ack and that’s what they did. For us, we had to turn it on right away in order to compete and beat them the way we wanted to.”

United States Head Coach Sean Speraw: “It was probably a li le tougher than we expected. In retrospect, maybe we should have. Teams are going to come in with nothing to lose and swing as hard as they can. Guatemala played great and we should give them a lot of credit. They came in with a lot of enthusiasm. They made a lot of great plays. They did some diff erent things that we didn’t see in the fi rst match. We didn’t play our best volleyball but we got the win so off to World Champs we go.”

Guatemala Head Coach Alvinzi Pelaez: “I am really happy. We really gave everyone a good show against the USA. We know the fi nal score was 3-0, but it was a hard-fought 3-0 match. We always fi ght to the bi er end in each set. This match, and this tournament as a whole, will help develop our team be er to be the best in our region. We are ready for the next tournament.”

Guatemala Captain Oscar Garcia: “We are really happy because we played with a full heart and we played together. We would to thank the USA team. It is a real pleasure to play against them.”

St. Lucia Head Coach Kendall Charlery: (About fi nishing sets) We spoke about it a er the last match. We are here, we have nothing to lose. Just give it your all. We are happy to come out with the victory and fi nish in third place. The experience for our young guys is good. We know what we need to go back and work on. It will not be easy, but we will work on it.”

St. Lucia Captain Jason Octave: “We started to rely on fundamentals in the fourth set – not just the power game and focused more on strategizing. It helped slow them down and also helped our defense. (On the building rivalry with Hai ) We all love the sport. Any way you can develop a rivalry is welcome. (On his team’s youth building to future) Certainly so that this victory helps. We have a long way to go. We have a good young team. We will go back to work on fundamentals so we can win higher level matches.”

Hai Head Coach Yves Larrieux: “St. Lucia won at the right me. We won during the classifi ca on round, but they won the bronze medal. Tonight, we lost the second and fourth sets, and it should not have been that way. St. Lucia woke up, and they won the match. That is the compe on of volleyball. There has to be a winner, and tonight it was St. Lucia. I congratulate them.”

Hai Captain Ralph Adolph: “A lack of concentra on and focus were the main reasons we lost the last two sets. We should have won the match 3-0, but this is volleyball. It happens. We lost tonight, but we will work harder.”
