Principal’s Message

Founded in 1917, Ramjas College is one of the first three colleges established under the University

of Delhi. Located in the Northern Ridge of the Aravalli mountain range in Delhi, the institution is

gifted with a spacious campus, state-of-the-art infrastructure, dedicated faculty and non-teaching staff

marching together towards integrating the principles, values and practices of sustainable development

into all aspects of teaching and learning. The college provides diverse forms of opportunities to

students through various clubs and societies in order to enhance their knowledge and skills, reach

excellence in different fields, and achieve all-round development. It has adequate facilities supported

by advanced technology which makes it a premier institute for learning.

The college library has over 1,50000 titles which are all bar-coded making the process of issue and

return of books efficient. The computerized cataloguing of the books further helps in locating the

books and their availability. Classrooms with LCD projectors, Science and Computer labs equipped

with latest facilities enable students to gain hands-on experience and develop practical approaches.

Besides, the green campus also houses hostels for boys and girls, an auditorium with modern facilities,

sport grounds, a gymnasium, a canteen, a stationary shop with photocopy facility and other amenities.

Students’ Welfare Committee looks after the efficient functioning of the mechanism for providing

financial support to needy students in order to meet their college fee. It also ensures for the nutritious

food served by the college canteen and maintenance of sanitary facilities in the campus. The college

manages and disseminates information through the web-based Students Information System (SIS)

which also helps in maintaining the record of classes, courses, time-table, assignments, projects,

attendance, events, etc. facilitating an efficient work environment. The Ramjas Team comprising the

students, teachers and other staff members works together towards achieving sustainable development

with the focus on reclaiming the green through planting of trees, water harvesting, optimum use of

solar power, use of recycled waste materials and other such measures.

The Enabling Unit of Ramjas College provides an adequate platform to the students with disabilities

(PwD category students) to voice for their social protection and educational requirements. It aims at

ensuring solutions to the problems faced by such students and organizes lectures, seminars and other

events in order to create awareness in society and develop an integrative social approach.

The Gender Forum and the Women Development Cell actively works for its objective to empower

women. With a strong commitment to gender equality their activities are planned in order to promote

awareness among students and staff in the same regard. Ramjas College is the first co-educational

college of Delhi University which has the distinction of opening its hostel doors also for the girl

residents in the year 2005.

The School of Foreign Languages functioning at Ramjas College since 2003 provides opportunities to

students for acquiring skills in multiple languages. This enhances their knowledge adding on to the

level of cultural interaction and opening up newer avenues of professional engagements.

DBT Star College Project, sanctioned to Ramjas College by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT),

Government of India in 2011, has been designed to upgrade the practical skills of undergraduate

students and develop critical thinking through hands-on approach.

The Placement Cell organizes training programmes and skill development workshops for students to

enhance their abilities. The Cell reaches out to the corporate world for facilitating the best placement

for undergraduate students. Over the years our students have been placed in various reputed

organizations including McKinsey, D.E Shaw, Deloitte, American Express, RSA Acturial Services,

Genpact, KMPG, etc.

Echoing the spirit of ‘Health is Wealth’, the Wellness and Counselling Unit of the college organizes

lectures, discussions, seminars and workshops throughout the year. It plays an active role in guiding

students towards their future with a positive approach. The Department of Physical Education with its

motto ‘Sports for All’ encourages the mass participation of students in various sports events organized

round the year. Over the years, our students have brought laurels to the college by their commendable

performances in competitions and bagging prizes at international, national, state and university

levels.

The North-East Cell of Ramjas College makes its lively presence felt through a series of events

including talks, discussions, food festivals, painting competitions, musical programmes, etc. that

highlight the tradition and practices of the region and promotes cultural integration. Departments of

various disciplines with their own academic and cultural societies organize programmes all year round.

The college has vibrant Music and Dance Society, Debating Society, Photography and Film Society,

Quiz Society, Theatre Society, Literary Society and Fine Arts Society which altogether facilitate the

confluence of literary and cultural attributes.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) organizes programmes including social and community service.

This voluntary association of students helps in establishing campus-community linkages with focus

on rural development. The NSS volunteers also play an active role in rescue operations during a

disaster or calamity. Under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan launched by the Govt. of India with a mission

for rural transformation, Ramjas College has very recently adopted five villages in the neighborhood

of Delhi. The college under its plan of extension activities is going to mentor a government

postgraduate college in Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand).

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) wing for female students at the college is a recent addition. This

would help in grooming the girl cadets to become disciplined and patriotic citizens of the nation.

Ramjas UPSC Wing of the college organizes lectures and discussions by inviting experts in the field

of administration, management, research and training. The college alumni, who are now a part of the

administrative system of the country, also grace such occasions and share their experience that

motivates and guides our students to realize their goals. The college also maintains the channels of

communication that connect the students presently at the college to those who have passed out from

the college. This interaction with the alumni community and student fraternity creates a healthy

ongoing exchange of ideas.

The Ramjas Model United Nations Society strives to empower the youth segment of society by

providing them a platform for public speaking and helping them in different ways to make them aware

citizens of the country. Enactus Ramjas is a social entrepreneurship organization run by a group of

spirited students of the college who seek the socio-economic upliftment of the deprived section of

society. This contributes to the measures for transformation at various levels. Finance and Investment

Society is a recently formed society in the college. Since the year 2018, the society has engaged itself

with a focus on creating greater financial literacy among students and providing a platform to

encourage discussions on pertinent issues about investments, business and the economy. This is also

credited with the creation of the first automated Mockstock platform that was launched for India-wide

participants in April 2019. The noteworthy activities of this forum have drawn the attention of finance

enthusiasts in academic circles across India.

Ramjas College Magazine, named Anand Parvat after the place in Delhi where the foundation stone

of the college was laid by Mahatma Gandhi in 1917, reflects the support provided by the institution

for academic and literary activities. In continuation with our memorable journey, I on behalf of Ramjas

fraternity invite suggestions from all stakeholders in order to carry forward the glorious tradition of

this reputed institution.

Ramjas College welcomes its fresh entrants with the warmth of a family and leads them on to

gradually gain independence of thought, a keen sense of inquiry and a search for wisdom. We hope

that by the time our students leave the gates of this institution they are enriched not just with factual

and theoretical knowledge but also with the confidence of fearlessly walking down the path of truth.

The college and the college faculty too, in turn, continue to learn from students. We have tried to

evolve with the inputs every batch of students brings to us by renewing and renovating programmes

connected with academics, extracurricular, sports, and NSS.

On behalf of the whole college, I welcome all our students to another year of meaningful activity

and experience that would lead to an enhancement of energy, talent and capability.

Dr. Manoj Kumar Khanna,

Principal

Historians, as keepers of memory, address deep-seated human fears of

forgetting and being forgotten, even as the discipline of History equips

us to get to know the world around us in greater depth by observing

people and phenomena over time, rather than only at any given

moment. The study of History, by teasing us into looking at everything

as being in a state of change and constant flux, as being historical rather than natural can unfreeze the

world for us and introduce a sense of fluidity in our own lives.

SUPPORT SERVICES FOR STUDENTS

Student Information Services (SIS)

The student information services (SIS) system is an important innovation introduced in the college to

facilitate better management of information and data relating to academics and general administration.

It is accessible through the college website www.ramjas.du.ac.in. Whereas the website carries a host

of information on the college, the login option for SIS is restricted to students, staff and the

administration of the college. The system is web based and accessible at any location through the

Internet.

All academic and administrative data relating to students are uploaded, stored, processed and retrieved

through the dedicated software that runs SIS. From tutorial management to term wise attendance, from

midterm marks to assignment grades, from back end reports to all important information (like syllabus,

important dates, etc), SIS is primary driver for information management in Ramjas. SIS ensures total

transparency and ease of information sharing. Students are actively encouraged to use SIS on a regular

basis.

Placement cell

At Ramjas College, we always strive to create an

environment in which each individual is encouraged to

step beyond the confines of the academic and

administrative disciplines to explore newer vistas. Our

placement cell was conceptualized and initiated taking

into consideration the desire of the students to utilize

the education and vocational training that they received

within the campus in the business environment. The placement cell serves as an interface between the

students and the corporate world. Apart from bringing various companies to the campus, the placement

cell also organizes talks, study abroad seminars, internship opportunities, and workshops for the

collective student body. College has its in-built placement portal with an aim to facilitate the

recruitment procedure for the students of the institute. The placement portal is fully automated, thus

creating an environment which eradicates the tiresome labor-intensive work. It has different labels

ranging from placement registrations to company details and status for the students and a separate

admin portal for the institute and the Placement Cell.
