One morning, Bum Bunny woke up to the sound of singing birds. “Tweet! Chirp! Tweet!” Mrs. Robin

was feeding her babies.

“Good morning, Mrs. Robin!” called Bum.

“Good morning to you, Bum Bunny!” Mrs. Robin called happily, “You’re up very early today.”

“I have lots to do today,” answered Bum.

“Well,” said Mrs. Robin, “it looks like its going to be one fine day.”

“I hope so,” said Bum as he waved to her.

Bum Bunny went into the kitchen to make himself some breakfast. He took out a bowl and his favorite pink broken spoon. He made a bowl of Apple Cinnamon oatmeal, then sat down at his little brown table to eat. It was very hot!

“Mmm,” said Bum, “This is good stuff.”

When he was finished eating, Bum Bunny went into the bath-room to wash his face and hands.

Then he brushed his teeth, the ones on the top and the ones on the bottom.

“I don’t want to say I forgot ‘em!” Bum Bunny giggled.

Then Bum sat on the potty for a little while and read his favorite book. It was a book about trucks.

When he was all done making potty, Bum Bunny washed his hands again. And after he combed his hair, Bum Bunny went outside to begin his busy day.

“Hello, Bum Bunny!” a tiny voice called. It was Mr. Bug.“Where are you going so early in the day?” he asked.

“Hello, Mr. Bug,” answered Bum, “I’m going to my friend’s house, we have lots to do today.”

“Well,” said Mr. Bug, “you’d better get going then. Have fun!”

“Thank you, Mr. Bug.I will!” Bum Bunny called as he waved toMr. Bug. And hestarted on his way.

Bum Bunny walked and walked until he came to a big bridge that passed over a wide street. As he crossed over the bridge, Bum saw lots of cars. There were some big cars and little cars, buses and trucks. Some of the drivers honked their horns. Others would wave to Bum Bunny. And Bum would wave back.

After a while, Bum Bunny remembered that he had lots to do.

!So Bum hurried along until he came to a small park.

“It would be much quicker to get to my friend’s house if I walked through the park.” Bum thought to himself, “We have lots to do today.”

So he skipped along a shady path, when suddenly he saw a big slide. It was red and blue and yellow, and it went round and round like a corkscrew.

“That looks like fun!” Bum Bunny said.

So he climbed up, up, up the ladder. And as he slid round and round, down to the bottom of the slide, he laughed out loud.

“That WAS fun! I want to do that again!”

So Bum Bunny went up the ladder and down the slide, up the ladder and down the slide, up the ladderand down theslide, over and over and overagain.

Bum Bunny began tofeel tired, so he satdown under a tree torest. There he saw an itsy-bitsyspider spinning a web in thebranches of the tree. He watchedthe itsy-bitsy spider and asked,“What are you doing, Mr. Spider?”

“I’m making this webto have my lunch,” said the itsy-bitsy spider. “Would you liketo have lunch with me?” he asked Bum Bunny.

Bum wrinkled his nose. “Oh, no thank you,” he answered, “I’m on my way to my friend’s house. We have lots to do today!” And Bum Bunny waved good-bye to the itsy-bitsy spider as he skipped away.

As Bum Bunny continued downthe sidewalk, he watched hisshadown dancing along thegrass. Suddenly, he heard anoise: CRUNCH!

“What was that?” he wondered.

When he looked down, Bum Bunny saw that he had stepped on a piece of green chalk.

“Some one must have dropped this,” he said as he picked it up.

Bum Bunny sat down on the sidewalk, and with the chalk, drew a picture of himself. Then he wrote his name in big, green letters: B-U-M. He drew an arrow pointing to his drawing.

“There,” he smiled, “now everyone will know who I am.”

As Bum stood up and brushed himself off, a big soap bubble drifted past his nose.

“Where did that come from?” he wondered as he looked around. Across the street, a little boy was playing with a toy lawn mower that blew bubbles as it movedacross the yard.

More and more bubbles floated out of the toy mower and across the street, swirling around and around. Bum Bunny giggled when the bubbles POP, POP, POPPED as they gentlytouched his nose and ears.

“That tickles!” he laughed.

A very big bubble floated in front of him.

“Oh! That very big bubble looks like a rainbow,” Bum said. “I want to catch it!”

So Bum followed the big bubble all the way down the street. “Wait for me!” he cried to the bubble.

The bubble slowly floated down and stopped in the grass. As Bum Bunny reached for it, the big bubble POPPED!

“Oh, well,” Bum thought, “I don’t have time to play with bubbles. I am going to my friend’s house. We have lots to do today.” And again, Bum was on his way.

Before long, Bum Bunny reached his friend’s house. He peeked in the back door andcalled out, “Christopher Jerome!Hello! Is anybody in there?”

A voice came frominside, “Who is it?”

Bum laughed,“It’s me! Bum Bunny!”

Page 16: Bum Bunny and the Busy Day (@1997)

Bum Bunny’s best friend, Christopher Jerome hurried outside with a great big smile on his face and gave Bum a big hug.

“Where have you been all morning?” Christopher Jerome asked. “I’ve beenworried about you!”

“Well...”, began BumBunny...

Page 17: Bum Bunny and the Busy Day (@1997)

...and he told Christopher Jerome all about Mrs. Robin, and eating breakfast, and brushing his teeth, and making potty, and combing his hair, and Mr. Bug, and lots of cars, and the slide in the park, and the itsy-bitsy spider, and drawing with chalk on the sidewalk, and following the bubbles.

“Goodness!” exclaimed Christopher Jerome, “You’ve certainly had a busy day already!”

And Bum Bunny laughed, “I sure have!”
