A washed-up Hollywood star, flown to England to play the title

role in King Lear finds he has signed on with the "Stratford Players" in a small village. With a deteriorating career, and problems with his daughter, the American has no time for

manners, displays an appalling lack of class, and considers himself too big for this lowly setting. The local villagers are a motley crew

but are delighted to have such an - albeit unsuccessful - star playing with them. The transition to humble actor, happy to play with the British actors takes some time, but eventually he realises

that he is no better, in terms of talent and intelligence, than his amateur colleagues.

SETTING: The action takes place mainly in the barn which the

Stratford Players use for rehearsals and performances of their

amateur productions. Some scenes take place in the local Bed & Breakfast.

TIME & PLACE: The present

THE CAST:

Dorothy Nettle Corrina Evans

Jessica Steel Katrina Potter

Nigel Dewbury Phillip Fresta

Mary Plunkett Tricia Garson

Denis Dobbins Luke Cross

Lauren Bell Marianne Curran

FROM THE DIRECTOR: Whilst many of us who dabble in amateur dramatics will recognise characters and plot lines depicted in this charming and witty script, I truly believe that the playwright has kept the warmth of humanity as his core message. During the rehearsal period, the storyline flowed over into real-life as cast members developed their characters and discovered that ‘working together’ is indeed the best way in which to achieve great outcomes. After the final bows, I am confident you will leave the theatre with a smile on your face and a spring in your step, and I acknowledge the incredible work of all those fabulous members who have volunteered their time to bring this entertainment to you today. Already our theatre is busy with plans for an exciting 2019, and we hope to see you at more productions in the New Year.

Nigel

The CAST

Jefferson Steel - Raymond Sinnamon

Raymond has been a member of Bundaberg Players Incorporated for over 15 years. He has played many roles, but in recent years he has played ‘George’ in ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’, ‘John Worthing JP’ in ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ and ‘Salerio’ in ’The Merchant of Venice’.

Dorothy Nettle - Corrina Evans It’s hard to believe, but this is Corrina’s first ‘speaking’ role, having previously been happy to be part of the chorus in ‘Wicked’ and ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’. Corrina has taken to the task with relish and we’re sure you’ll see her in more productions in the future.

Jessica Steel – Katrina Potter

We are so pleased to have Katrina return to the Playhouse stage after a number of years, with work and study having taken her away. Katrina has been in a number of BPI productions, most notably, ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and ‘Once in a Blue Moon’.

Nigel Dewbury – Phillip Fresta Phillip has been a member with Bundaberg Players Incorporated since 1984, an impressive 34 years. This will be his 59th stage production. We would love to give you a list but there just is not enough space. Out of the long list of characters that Phillip has taken on, his top three include; Macbeth from ‘Macbeth’, Shylock from ‘The Merchant of Venice’ and Math Professor Robert from ‘Proof’.

Mary Plunkett – Tricia Garson

Tricia has been a member of Bundaberg Players Incorporated for many years and has both acted and directed, as well as helping in many other areas of the theatre. It is wonderful to have her back on the stage and playing Mary with such gusto.

Denis Dobbins – Luke Cross Luke is very glad to be playing a more ‘likeable’ character in this production, after feeling the displeasure from the audience when he played ‘Flap’, a wayward husband, in ‘Terms of Endearment’. It just shows his acting skills to have the audience believe he’d strayed.

Lauren Bell – Marianne Curran

Marianne is another newcomer who is taking on a ‘speaking role’ for the first time. Marianne was also part of the chorus in ‘Wicked’ and ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’. It is wonderful to see the growth of our newer members as they take on more challenges. Well done Marianne!
