Burial of a World War II Veteran
On April 26, 2016, our Branch Richelieu (Quebec 79) of the Royal Canadian
Legion in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu lost one of its World War II Veterans, comrade
Jean-Paul Bertrand, at the age of 92.
Five members of Branch 79, from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, traveled to St-Isidore,
New Brunswick for the burial of the ashes on Friday, June 24, 2016.
A few phones calls were made to officials of some branches of the Royal Canadian
Legion in the neighborhood of St-Isidore. They were more than willing to help us
out with anything we would need.
To our surprise and appreciation, fifteen members of the Royal Canadian Legion in
the St-Isidore region participated in this final tribute to our comrade.
These Legionaries were:
The deputy commander of the Northshore District:
Comrade Denise Dumaresq
From Branch 45, Tracadie-Sheila
President, comrade Roland Paulin
First vice president, comrade Steve Gravel
Second Vice President, comrade Claude Savoie
Comrade Émard Christmas
Comrade Jean-Claude Bélanger
Comrade Christian Larocque
From Branch 56, Caraquet:
President, comrade Armel Lanteigne
First vice-president, comrade Jean-Pierre Chenard
Sgt at arms, comrade Orphir Boucher
Comrade Gordon Clement
Comrade Denise Chiasson
Comrade Julienne Boucher
Comrade Normand Doiron
These comrades arrived fully prepared and organized with color party, music and
all the decorum necessary for the ceremony at the cemetery. This was a touching,
appreciative and emotional moment for Branch 79 and will remain in our hearts,
and our thoughts forever.
A huge thank you to our fellow Legionnaire from New Brunswick who took the
time to pay their last respects to our comrade with us.
We will remember them!
