Burlington Catholic 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Fr. Mahoney’s Message Dear Burlington Catholic Collaborative, We have been back to Ordinary Time for the past few weeks, but it now “feels” like Ordinary Time after having celebrated the last two weekends of Solemn Feasts –Trinity Sunday and Corpus Christi. On this 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Jesus assures the Twelve that God cares about them – AND US. Sunday’s Gospel is encouraging. Jesus says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid.” That having been said, many of us are afraid, even though God loves us in our tiniest details. Throughout the ages the Lord through Scripture has said, “Do not be afraid.” God said to Abram, “Do not be afraid, I am your shield.” God said to the prophets, “Do not be afraid, I am with you.” The angel speaking on behalf of God said to Mary, “Do not be afraid.” Jesus said to the apostles in the Upper Room, “Do not be afraid,” and gave them the Holy Spirit. The Lord said to Paul, “Do not be afraid.” Jesus said to all his disciples, “Do not be afraid, little flock.” Fear is a powerful factor in everyone’s life, but is doesn’t have to cripple us. The Gospel essentially says: Don’t be afraid; it may very well happen, but when it does happen you will not be destroyed! No matter how few hairs you have on your head, God’s love does not go away. Receive it. Be reassured by the promise that God cares for us and protects us always. It is a wonderful truth to be reflected upon. Do not be afraid with the Pandemic. Do not be afraid with discerning a Merger. Possible Merger of St. Margaret and St. Malachy. For the past few weeks we have been discerning a possible merger. I would like to hear your input. Please watch my video message from two Saturdays ago on Trinity Sunday on the Collaborative Website.BurlingtonCatholicMA.org Please email me with your thoughts – BY NEXT SUNDAY, JUNE 28 - at the following email address: [email protected] It is amazing to me to have so many parishioners from each church be so affirming to the thought of a possible merger. It is most certainly going in that direction. Keep this as a prayer intention. Please remember that with a merger the name of the PARISH changes. The names of the Church Buildings remain the same. THANK YOU to all the Volunteers who have come forward to help usher and clean the churches at every Mass. We can use more people! Please contact either Parish Office to volunteer. I am so very pleased with how everything has been working out. Both churches can
fit between 85-100 per Mass. If we begin to get to capacity at our Masses, we may need to have sign-ups to get in. Time will tell. Live Streaming our Saturday 4:00 P.M. Vigil Masses from St. Malachy will continue for the foreseeable future. Daily Masses have resumed. Please remember to wear a face mask until further notice. For our Compromised individuals who cannot attend Sunday Mass: Please consider coming to one of our Daily Masses where the crowds are much smaller and you will feel much safer. To pray with a small community is so life-giving. That having been said: The dispensation from the Sunday Mass obligation will continue for the foreseeable future. YEAR OF THE EUCHARIST. Cardinal Seán O’Malley has announced a Year of the Eucharist to bolster the faith of those who already believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and to encourage those who struggle with this belief. Over the course of the next year, the Cardinal invites all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Boston to learn more about the Eucharist and to spend more time before the Eucharistic Lord, asking Him to reveal Himself to you. A recent Pew Study found that many Catholics view the Eucharist as a mere symbol. Some Catholics even believe the Church actually teaches it is only symbol, not the body and blood of Jesus Christ, bringing to mind Flannery O’Connor’s famous rejoinder on the matter. At a literary gathering back in the 1940s, author Mary McCarthy said she always thought of the Eucharist as a symbol and “it was a pretty good one.” O’Connor replied, “If it’s only a symbol, to hell with it.”She made her point. If the Eucharist isn’t really the body and blood of Christ, then why bother going to Mass? Why bother being Catholic? "The Eucharist is 'the source and summit of the Christian life.' 'The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.'" - Catechism of the Catholic Church 1324 Happy Father’s Day to all our fathers. The Church offers a blessing on this special day: “God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things. Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers and God-Fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, and God-Children, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. Grant this through Christ our Lord.”
Let us pray for each other. God bless, Father Mahoney

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNIONMy Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.

As you can see in Figure 2, as the blood
vessels that surround the nerves become
diseased, they shrivel up. This prevents the
nerves from getting the needed nutrients
to continue tosurvive. When these nerves
begin to “die” they cause you to have balance
problems, pain,numbness, tingling, burning,
and many additional symptoms.
Figure 2: When these very small blood
vessels become diseased they begin to
shrivel up and the nerves begin to degenerate.
The main problem is that your doctor has
told you to just live with the problem or try
the drugs which you don’t like taking because
they make you feel uncomfortable. There is
Burlington, MA – The most common
method your doctor will recommend to treat
yourneuropathy is with prescription drugs
that may temporarily reduce your symptoms.
These drugshave names such as Gabapen-
tin, Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Neurontin, and
are primarily antidepressant or anti-seizure
drugs. These drugs may cause you to feel
uncomfortable and have a variety of harmful
side effects.
Figure 1: Notice the very small blood
vessels surrounding each nerve.
Peripheral neuropathy is a result of damage
to the nerves often causing weakness, pain,
numbness, tingling, and the most debilitating
balance problems. This damage is commonly
caused by a lack of blood flow to the nerves in
the hands and feet which causes the nerves to
begin to degenerate due to lack of nutrient
flow.
now a facility right here in Burlington, MA
that offers you hope without taking those
endless drugs with serious side effects.
In order to effectively treat your neuropathy
three factors must be determined.
1) What is the underlying cause?
2) How Much Nerve Damage Has Been
Sustained?
NOTE: Once you have sustained 85% nerve
loss, there is likely nothing that we can do
for you.
3) How much treatment will your condition
require?
The treatment provided at AWC | Acupuncture
& ; Wellness Clinic has three main goals:
1) Increase blood flow
2) Stimulate small fiber nerves
3) Decrease brain-based pain
The treatment to increase blood flow utilizes
a specialized ATP Resonance BioTherapy™.
Thistechnology was originally developed by
NASA to assist in increasing blood flow and
expediting recovery and healing.
The ATP Resonance BioTherapy™ is like
watering a plant. This therapy will stimulate
the blood vessels to grow back around the
peripheral nerves and provide them with the
proper nutrients toheal and repair.
Figure 3: The blood vessels will grow back
around the nerves much like a plant’s
roots grow when watered.
The amount of treatment needed to allow
the nerves to fully recover varies from person
to person and can only be determined after
a detailed neurological and vascular evalua-
tion. As long as you have not sustained at least
85% nerve damage there is hope!
Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac. at AWC |
Acupuncture & Wellness Clinic in
Burlington, MA will do a neuropathy severity
examination to determine the extent of the
nerve damage. This neuropathy
severity examination will consist of a
detailed sensory, vascular testing, and an
analysis of neurological findings.

to determine if your peripheral neuropathy
can be treated.

Patients find relief with fewer pills with a
breakthrough clinic in Greater Boston.
Those battling with pain but unable or
unwilling to alleviate their condition with
potentially addictive pills can feel as if
they’re on pins and needles waiting for a
solution.
However, for some suffering from pain,
pins and needles ARE the solution.
Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac. who trained in China
and practices acupuncture and other
advanced procedures at AWC| Acupuncture
& Wellness Clinic, said a lot of the
pain management field is skittish about
prescribing pain medication.
AWC| Acupuncture & Wellness Clinic has
been open for 20 years in Burlington, MA.
She currently actively consults and oversees
cases in 74 clinics across the US, Canada,
and worldwide in addition to treating and
overseeing cases here at Greater Boston.
Her facility, AWC| Acupuncture &;
Wellness Clinic, also serves as a training
facility for doctors worldwide. Currently,
there were 30 doctors scheduled to observe
and train last year and this unique training
opportunity will occur six times per year.
Dr.Min Jeon Lic.Ac. said almost all of her
it. Our saying is, ‘Can’t hurt, often helps,”
Becker said.
Becker says, he has found acupuncture
helps with many of his patients with
chronic pain and neurological conditions.
“You give them less medication, there are
less uncomfortable side effects,” Becker
said “They get more active.”
For others struggling with pain management
and staying independent, such as Betty
Hicks of North Andover, pills are not an
option.
“I have nerve damage in my toes from
when I broke my ankle,” Hicks said. “They
all told me, there’s nothing they can do.”
Hicks said the sensation in her extremities
was painful and felt like “burning needles
in her shoes.”
“Sometimes, I’d be up all night because of
the hurting,” Hicks said.
Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac. said initially she had
told Hicks she could not be accepted as
a patient, because she was skeptical that
acupuncture could help her neuropathy
(nerve damage).
Hicks said her pain has largely abated and
she’s able to do the hobbies she used to do
since she began seeing Dr. Min Jeon Lic.
Ac. in October.
She said she did not expect the treatment
to work, but is delighted it has. Dr. Min
Jeon Lic.Ac. says that Hicks is an inordinately
fast responder. Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac. says,
“While we see these seemingly miraculous
results day in and day out, Mrs. Hicks is
an unusually fast responder. Typically, I
expect patients to take a few more weeks to
report these kinds of changes. But I’m very
happy for her and all of us here at AWC are
excited to see this look of amazement on
our patients’ faces.”
“I tell all my friends. I don’t have the pain
in there and rarely use my cane,” Hicks
said. “My husband doesn’t have to rub my
feet anymore.”
To see if you are a candidate for the
procedures used by Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac.

patients cannot, or prefer not to take
medications to assuage their conditions.
“I’ve been maxed out of nerve pain meds,
and all the doctors said to just live with
it,” said “Robert Hoskins of Bedford, MA.
“It (acupuncture) was the last resort, with
the best results.”
Hoskins began to see Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac.
in October for lingering effects from a 30
foot fall he took from a tree in 1998.
“I think she does a heck of a job,” Hoskins
said. “I’d fallen and put my hip through
the pelvic socket.” Additionally, Hoskins
had injured his ribs, vertebrae and
tailbone.
“I hate pills. If possible, I’d rather not take
them.” Hoskins said.
Dr. Ralph Becker, pain management
physician for Mayo Clinic, recommends
acupuncture and said Hoskins’s comments
are common.
“Patient’s today realize that there are
non-invasive options out there and want to
avoid surgery if possible,” Becker said.
Becker who’s been practicing 20 years, said
he learned about acupuncture during his
fellowship and has enthusiastically
recommended it to his patients for years.
“If people ask me, I encourage them to try
