PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Rob Gregg

The 2015-16 curling season was another successful one for the BCC. Our membership is strong – the Day Time sections represent our only challenge in filling and Brian is focusing on that in his marketing efforts. The club is sound financially. We had improved results at the bar, additional membership revenue, as well as good expense control.

The BCC made a number of capital improvements either by choice or circumstance. The ice scraper broke down the week of the Fall Klassic. We had a scraper on order from IceMaster Mfg. as we knew the Ice King was near the end of its life. They provided first class service in delivering “The Boss” quicker than requested when we told them of our dilemma. The new machine has allowed Mike Dales and his team to deliver great ice in a shorter period of time. A new security system was installed when the prior one broke down. A roof leak over the dance floor was repaired during the summer. The club also began accepting credit cards, and the integration was for the most part seamless. We received positive response from the membership, with purchases made at the pro shop, bar, even an entry for the Hamilton & District. The downstairs bathrooms were renovated over the summer and I’m sure you’ll be pleased with the results. Finally, our insurance company asked that we initiate preventative measures to avoid a repeat of last year’s brine leak. As a result, we replaced the brine pipes that were previously spliced and repaired.

Brian Moore continues to steer the club admirably in his managerial role. Mike Dales will be with us for another year providing us a tremendous ice surface. Mike will be winding down after this season, but will remain in an advisory role the following season to help the new icemaker with his expertise.

I would also like to recognize Reta Giles, who I have dubbed our club historian. She has for the past few years been working on archiving old newspaper articles of interest, photographs, as well as various other documents and artifacts of our club’s history. They date back as far as 1958. This has sparked donations from the club’s long time members such as Ken & Betty Love, Bob & Marg Palmer, as well as from the late Harry Clark’s family. Reta brings great passion to this endeavour, and on behalf of the club, I thank her for that.

Last year, Don Ryter wished me a trouble free year as President, and I was fortunate that my term did not encounter any discernable challenges. A strong board, outstanding volunteerism of members serving on section committees with verve, and a great staff equally share in delivering that trouble free year. I can’t thank all of you enough for your effort and contribution. Being one of those volunteers in helping run the Skyway, I know the time and energy it takes to do what you do. And I saw firsthand the diverse talents provided by the board members, as well as witnessing the strength of the BCC staff.

As I finish my term, I also want to recognize the two other board members whose term is coming to an end. Thank you Barb Wantuchowicz and Doug Renshaw for your service, energy, and insight. Last but certainly not least, I wish incoming President Joe Taylor and the board all the best this year. The club is in very capable hands.

TREASURER’S REPORT

The BCC had a good year financially, due to strong membership numbers, improved profits at the bar and good control of expenses.

Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet)

The club ended the year in a strong financial position with current assets of $392,392. During the year, $26,649 was expended on capital acquisitions (new scraper & cold plate installation for blade, brine supply pipe upgrade, flat roof repair, and security system). BCC holds sufficient cash at year end to meet the club’s ongoing responsibilities. The club is on plan to meet all capital improvements moving forward as planned for in the 20 year capital plan.

Statement of Operations (Profit and Loss)

Revenues to the club were $430,071 and expenses were $368,117, resulting in an operating profit of $61,954. This compares favorably to the operating profit of $47,639 in fiscal 2015.

Revenues

1. Revenues to the club increased by $20,030 in 2016 compared to 2015.

2. Membership revenues increased $14,019. Membership numbers remained relatively stable. The increase was due to inflationary price increase which amount to an average of 2%.

3. Bar Profits were $71,879 which compares to $61,941 in fiscal 2015. This increase was due to an increase in revenues, which were a result of targeted price increases on certain low margin items. Gross margins increased and the operating costs were well controlled resulting in the improved results.

4. Kitchen profits decreased $1958 as compared to fiscal 2015. This was as a result of the higher cost of purchasing food. There will be some price adjustments in fiscal 2017 to help offset this loss. The Kitchen Operation is budgeted to operate at a break-even level.

Operating Expenses

Overall Operating expenses were $368,117 which compares to $362,402 in fiscal 2015. This represents a 1.7% increase, which compares favourably to inflation.

1. House Repairs and Maintenance decreased $6120 or 28.7% as compared to fiscal 2015. There were a limited number of equipment failures in fiscal 2016.

2. Ice Expenses decreased $7520 or 7.4% as compared to fiscal 2015. This was largely as result in a decrease in Repairs and Maintenance on Ice Equipment.

Page 4: BURLINGTON CURLING CLUB · A new security system was installed when the prior one broke down. A roof leak over the dance floor was repaired during the summer. The club also began

Burlington Curling Club – Annual General Meeting September 15, 2015 Page 4

3. Office Expenses increased $7713 or 7.9%. This increase was a result of increased costs of wages, benefits and the retainer paid to our new webmaster. The additional wages were necessary as the office prepared and set up the club accounting system and website for the acceptance of credit cards in fiscal 2016.

4. General Operating Expenses increased $6304, or 18.5%. This increase was largely due to the additional expense of the clubs new support policy for teams competing in OCA events. The policy was updated after several years, and more money was made available to BCC teams who move past the Zone level. In addition, in fiscal 2016 many teams played well, and qualified for the support.

5. Utilities were flat as compared to fiscal 2015. An increase in hydro expenses was offset by a decrease in expenses for gas and water as compared to fiscal 2015.

Motion #3 – Adoption of Treasurer’s Report Moved by Mike Smith that the Treasurer’s Report be adopted as presented. Seconded by Chris Bailey. Motion carried. Motion #4 – Adoption of Auditor’s Report Moved by Chuck Smith that the Auditors Report by SB Partner LLP, for the year ending April 30, 2015, be approved. Seconded by Dave Clarke. Motion carried.

SECTION REPORTS WOMEN’S DAY SECTION – PRESENTED BY BARBARA SMITH

At the General meeting in September 2015, the membership voted to accept the revisions of the Women’s Day Section constitution which eliminated a number of positions and streamlined the Executive. It became effect June 1, 2016.

For many years, there was the President Series sponsored by the Past Presidents of the Section since 1954. This year, it was decided to stop approaching the Past President but celebrate their commitment over the years. The Past Presidents were invited to attend the Series finals, enjoy lunch and participate in the presentation of the awards. The series and the trophy are now retired.

Throughout the season, there were approximately 128 curlers participating in the 7 Social Draws from Monday to Thursday and the Round Robin Competitive on Fridays. We hosted a number of bonspiels, the Interchange with Burlington Golf and Curling Club and took part in a number of competitions with Men’s Day Section,

To help ourselves improve and learn more about the game, two clinics were held and were well attended. For our Leads and Seconds there was a Mentoring Series of 4 games where Skips aid the novice Skips and Vices with their decisions. From the results of a Questionnaire, we will continue to assist the players in the house but also assist the front end players with sweeping and their responsibilities.

Ten teams entered into the Hamilton & District, with 4 teams bringing home trophies. Reta Giles team won First Place in the Senior Women’s Division.

Our sponsorship is strong and we appreciate all their support. Upon reviewing the sponsors to the events, a few changes were made, either because a sponsor requested it or we felt there was a better fit for the sponsor.

Now that we are into September, our new curling season of 2016-2017 is about to begin, we welcome back are returning members, new members and wish everyone a great season.

BUSINESS WOMEN’S SECTION – PRESENTED BY DAPHNE JAQUES

Once again, the BCC Business Womens’ Section celebrated an excellent curling season in 2015/2016.

We had strong membership numbers with full draw participation – 121 members and 21 crystal teams with three competitive series, as well as a fun skins format at the end of the season.

Our Crystal Aggregate winning team was Becky Pipes, Pam Feldkamp, Heather Cridland, Kristine Gordon and Heather Matters who will be representing our club in the Dominion next year.

We had four rounds of social curling on Mondays and Thursdays, as well as a one-day Turkey Spiel at Christmas and a February one-day spiel that was open to our members as well as teams from other clubs. With 18 teams participating, this successful spiel helped us with the funds to sponsor the annual “Battle of the Sexes”.

We have a number of outgoing members leaving our section who have either moved or moved to a different section, including Deb Adkins, Christine Montgomery, Loraine Allen, Jennifer Clarke, Karen Watters, Jackie Hughes, Marian Coveny and Margret Sweetlove.

We also welcomed several new members including Diane Amormino, Sherry Elliot, Shannon Brodie, Linda Edmonds, Holly Syer, Shannon Tessier and Tracy Turner. To help boost membership in our section, we held an open house with two open sheets of ice in March, offering an intro to curling seminar and a brief intro into competitive curling for our social members. Thank you to Heather Riley for organizing. This has generated some new interest and we continue to have a waiting list for this coming season.

We had excellent response to the survey that we sent out last year (50% participation) which has provided us with some good information about our Section and also some additional volunteer support.

At our closing dinner and AGM, we held our first book drive for the Joseph Brant Women’s Auxillary, coordinated by Maureen Hale. We raised $90 and filled an SUV with books to be sold at the hospital.

Our Executive plans this year include an update to our Constitution to reflect the change in some of our duties and we have introduced a new member to our committee to formally take on the role of planning our February bonspiel.

On behalf of the Business Womens’ Section, we would like to thank our new and returning sponsors for their support. We also would like to thank Brian and Cindy in the office, Donna & Joanne and the rest of the kitchen and bar staff, Mike and his ice making team, and Larry Couse for keeping the website up to date - for all they do to make the Burlington Curling Club such a great place to spend our winter months!

MEN’S DAY SECTION – PRESENTED BY DAVE ROKOSH

There have been several changes to the Senior Section Board of Directors

New to the board are: President - Dennis Galange, Vice-President - Brian Monaghan, Secretary - Randy Pascoe, Treasurer - Wilf Arndt, Games - Dennis Kemp, Inter-Club Chairman - Derek Vachon

Returning to the board are: Bonspiel Chairman - Bruce Crampton, Sponsorship - Jim Whitehead

Leaving the board are Bill Miles, Glen Huffman, Dino Mozzon and Vic Cairns

In addition the BCC board representative to the Men’s Day Section, Doug Renshaw, will be leaving the main board this year. We respectfully request a new board member be nominated to liaise with our section.

As of the end of August, the section membership was 143 senior men, similar to last year’s final membership. These numbers are within the working range for the section and are likely to change slightly as the season progresses.

Last year, our games section averaged about 2.2 games per week (not counting the CYOT league). The average participation rate for each series was in the range of 75 to 80 %.

Last year 20 teams participated in the CYOT league, the number of teams is expected to be similar this year. About 60% of the CYOT curlers are members of the Men’s Day Section.

The section financial situation remains sound. The section operates on a budget in the range of $15,000 per year. In addition to our operating expenses, the Section provides an annual sponsorship to the Junior and Little Rocks curling sections.

Interchanges with the Ladies Day Section, the ultimate challenge and two chicken spiels, are expected to continue this year. I am pleased to report that the Men’s Day Section squeaked out a victory in the ultimate challenge again last year

Because of the earlier club closing date, the section expects to complete its final series by April 5, 2017. For next year the final two series will be joined, but will retain the two sponsor designations.

MEN’S EVENING SECTION – PRESENTED BY FRANK ROWE Financial: The Men’s Section is in good shape financially, once again turning a modest net profit last season. Don Ryter joined our committee as Men's Treasurer last season, and we're very happy to have him streamlining our processes. Bonspiels: The Skyway and Frontenders bonspiels were both very successful last year. Thanks once again to Rob Gregg and John Hyett for running such a great event with the Skyway. And a congratulations to Geoff Gilbert and Dave Nicol for running the Frontenders as a fully subscribed event last year for the first time in a few years. We expect great things again this year from both bonspiels. Sponsorship: All of the long-term Section Sponsors returned last season. The Section would like to formally thank these Sponsors once again – SB Simpson, Ross & McBride, MacDowell Insurance, Exterior Transformations, Rob and Sue Steele, Cameron’s Brewing, Rob Dubois/Fairview Chrysler, and John Dann/Patriot Property Management. Games: The Basswood Trophy was won last year by the 5-man team of Brent Palmer, Mike Rowe, Scott Simpson, Rob Matheson and Bob Palmer. Congratulations. Social Series participation continues to grow after a concerted effort into making the format of each series unique. The Thorpe Series has run as a Rota format for the past few years and will continue to, the Ross & McBride switched successfully last year to 6-end games, and the Memorial will continue under the popular Skins scoring/6-end format. We're very proud to have taken some proactive steps as a section to drop Social games in the Ross & McBride and Memorial Series' to 6 ends to eliminate some of the questions surrounding slow play and late games. Thanks to the Games Co-Captains, Frank Rowe (Basswood) and Rob Dubois (Social) for the tireless work in running the games machine. General:

We have a full compliment of 190 members heading into the coming season. It has been determined this number is the Section’s comfortable maximum.

It is expected to be a healthy year again this season with Basswood capped at 42 teams, already filled.

The Men’s Stag Night will once again open the season on Friday, September 23rd featuring a poker tournament, food, drink, and good times. Cameron’s Brewing will be joining with their team for some beer tastings. There will also be a 50/50 draw. All members of the Evening Men’s section are invited to attend.

We are welcoming a new member to the Men's Committee this season in Dave Dittmer, who will serve as our section Secretary. Welcome, Dave!

A final thank you to all the other Men’s Executive members not yet mentioned.

JUNIOR/BANTAM SECTION - PRESENTED BY BARB CRIDLAND

The Junior Section had another successful season in 2015 – 2016. The section had 52 members, 42 of whom actively curled in the Thursday afternoon league. As always, our on-ice coordinator and coach, Chris Bailey, provided excellent instruction and strategic guidance to all of the new and returning curlers.

This year, there were 2 Bantam boys teams and 1 Bantam girls team that participated in OCA Zone playdowns. Although none of the Burlington teams made it to the provincial playdowns, they had a good time and gained valuable experience. A big thank you to the BCC coaches for sharing their time and curling expertise with these young curlers: Mike Smith, Scott Guilfoyle and Diana Simpson. We would also like to thank BCC Manager Brian Moore, Terri Martyniuk and the Board of Directors for providing the Junior section with valuable practice ice for our teams.

BCC hosted another successful Bantam/Junior bonspiel on December 12, 2015 with 20 teams coming from various clubs around southern Ontario. Thanks to Wendy Oughtred and her committee of volunteers for organizing this great event.

The Junior Section sent one team to each of the Halton 64 league draws this year. They had great success, ending up in 1st place at the end of the season. Congratulations to all of the curlers who represented BCC so well. Thank you to Louise Feldkamp for her hard work organizing the curlers attending each draw throughout the season.

The end of series parties in December and April were once again very popular with the curlers. In December, the curlers played a 3-end game, then threw 1 rock from the sheet 5 hack towards three turkeys, with the closest rocks winning the turkeys. In April, we fastened 10 helium balloons to rocks which were scattered around the 5 sheets. The curlers threw 2 rocks from the sheet 5 hack at the balloons, with the closest rocks winning a gift card. We followed these fun games with pizza and cupcakes in the lounge.

Again this year, the Junior Section had a wonderful group of Sponsors helping out with financial support. A big thank you to Discovery Ford, the Delorme Family, Ross & McBride, the BCC Men’s and BCC Men’s Day sections.

The Section also ran another successful T-shirt sale. Thanks to Megan Delorme for designing and organizing the T-shirts again this year.

Finally, thank you to the Junior Executive, especially Louise Feldkamp and Chris Bailey, for all of their work to make the season run so smoothly.

The Junior Section is looking forward to the upcoming season and expects to have approximately 40 members again in the 2016-2017 season.

LITTLE ROCK SECTION – PRESENTED BY MARK FLETCHER The Little Rock Section began the year with about 34 curlers and end with about 39 curlers. A few joined in January. The goal of the Section is for curlers to have success and fall in love with the game of curling. The section has seen many curlers continue their curling experience and move to the Bantam and Junior Sections. Heather Cridland and Mark Fletcher ran the on-ice coordination this year and did an amazing job! The curlers experienced a variety of curling drills along with short scrimmage games all season. Shannon, Heather and Mark discussed a new little rocks development program through OCA. As a result, the Little Rocks Program has purchased a new program designed for young curlers. With 6 Levels ranging from Little Rock to the Gold Star, each has a different set of skill requirements. A certificate and crest is awarded for each level completed. We are excited about implementing this new program this year. Shannon Stevens will be stepping down as Little Rocks Coordinator as her son is moving up to Bantam. Heather Cridland and Mark Fletcher will continue on as the On-Ice Coordinators. As of the AGM, 35 have registered for this coming season.

MIXED SECTION - PRESENTED BY MIKE SMITH The 2015-2016 Mixed season was a resounding success, because of both the enthusiasm of the membership and the hard work, dedication and ideas of last year’s committee and volunteers. Thank you to the committee that was chaired by Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Robson, and included Bob Dickinson, Chuck Smith, Cheryl Boyle, Mike O’Malley, Martin Lydon, Mike Smith, Jane Sharpe, Mike Daley and Natalie Hamilton. The Section is losing a wealth of experience this year with the departure of Charlie and Cheryl, but looks forward to welcoming two new committee members, Brian Nelson (assistant games) and Stephen Russell-Hill (assistant sponsorship and mentoring). The Section’s membership during last season topped out at 319 members, including over 55 new club members over the course of the season, many of whom joined up for the complete season following their participation in the Club’s $99 introductory special. The Section maintained a waiting list for the entire season. Moving into the new season, there has been the usual attrition in membership, with a significant level of interest from existing members of other sections and new members wishing to join. The section will continue with 78 teams over 13 flights. The Section is welcoming more than 30 brand new curlers this year. The very successful mentoring program that was started by Chris Bailey and has been developed over the past years will be continued under the guidance of Chuck Smith and Stephen Russell-Hill and the many valued volunteers who donate their time to welcome, teach and support new members. The section took on many new initiatives including high end raffles (Chuck Smith), the very popular breakfast at the Fall Klassic (Mike O’Malley) and several electronic ones - re-scheduling, registrations/payments, game results and intention sheets. A concerted effort was made to have the section webpage be the ‘go to’ place for section news, sponsorship, general information and updates. The biggest challenge this year will be to re-brand the Grand Mixed due to the time constraints of the upcoming season as well as to try to increase the participation with a goal of at least 264 entrants

The Mixed Section is in good financial health with a 2015 closing balance of just under $9,000, which will enable the committee to continue to provide great food, great fun, and great curling during the regular season, playoffs and in-club spiels, with the hope of maintaining current entry fees. The Section is looking forward to the popular bonspiels: the Fall Klassic, the Grandiose Gamble and the Grand Mixed, all of which saw great success this past season. Thank you to Jeff & Barb Cridland and the Taylors, and their team of volunteers for their work on the Grand Mixed para-mutual and Pick 5, and of course for their continued flawless running of the Grandiose Gamble. Planning is underway for the upcoming season and the Committee is looking forward to seeing everyone out on the ice…not all at once please!! We welcome your ideas, suggestions and criticisms and hopefully your participation in this very important committee.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE REPORT - PRESENTED BY TOM SMITH

The social committee has now been in existence for eight years.

The original members were: Heather Riley, Becky Pipes, Andrew Woods, Darren Lazarenko, Elaine Gowman, Armaine Smith and Kim Smith.

These members were the founders of what has become a valuable asset to the Burlington Curling Club.

One of the original members, Heather Riley is leaving the committee, having served for eight straight years. We thank you Heather, you will be missed. Last year’s president Erin O’Flyn is also leaving and also will be missed.

Last year we ran three very successful euchre nights. We also were responsible for the entertainment for the Grandiose Gamble and were fortunate to bring in a top entertainer. We hope to do the same this year.

The Grey Cup party was well attended and Chris Bailey repeated again as champion in the Chile Cook-off.

The Golf tournament was a tremendous success. We were able to once again have a shotgun start. The tournament will return to Hidden Lakes next year. Will attempt to tighten schedule and prize presentations next year

We recently had a group of curlers attend a Blue Jay game on September tenth, followed by appetizers and beverages at Emma’s Back Porch.

This year the Social committee is hoping to sponsor a boy and girl from the Big Brother/ Big Sister organization. Currently they are looking for two children to join the little Rock’s program.

Motion #5 – Adoption of Section Reports Moved by Stan Lang, that the reports from Sections of the Club be adopted as presented. Seconded by Ron Stewart. Motion carried.

Section 2017 YTD Fiscal 2016 YTD Current Waiting List

Men’s Evening 188 190 13

Men’s Day 145 147 0

Women’s Day 133 127 0

Membership updates:

The Men’s Evening Section will increase to €€190 and take two off of the waiting list very soon. 190 is a comfortable number for them

The Women's Day has grown due to a renewed interest in their Friday league and some Business Women moving to Daytime curling.

The Mixed Section will operate with 78 teams so 313 is a good number (one team must have 5 players )

The Women's Evening Section currently has the largest wait list with the longest turn over time for someone on the list.

The Junior and Little Rocks are currently in a state of flux. It is anticipated there will be several more applications between now and Oct. 4. There were 8-10 Juniors that graduated and are off to Post Secondary School.

The Men's Day Section is holding its own.

Brian Moore continues to focus on maintaining and enhancing our membership. Our $99.00 membership introduces new members to the club. Significant interested was generated in the Spring with his internal promotion campaign that saw a substantial increase to the wait list.

Overall it looks like the membership will be strong once again.

ICE – PRESENTED BY JOE TAYLOR

The 2015-2016 season install proved to be a little trying. It started with the joint separation at a previous join causing the brine to contaminate the sand. This was addressed utilizing a sucker truck to remove the sand and flush the area that was soaked with brine. The dry sand from the surrounding area was swept into the cleaned out area so that there was completely dry sand on the bottom around the pipes. Staff then brought in the sand that had been stored outside (left over from when the chairs were changed) to fill the void.

Installation continued, with further delays due to the warm weather experienced during September. There were days with a humidex reading of over 35C and even a couple of days over 40C. Although the base was frozen, once the humidex is over 30C it is impossible to do anything except to maintain what is already there. It should be noted that had the low “e” ceiling not been installed it is likely that some melting occur during the hot days and further delayed the start of the season. An interesting aside, from August 20th to November 21st 2015 the Club used 5.5% less electricity than the previous year. Unfortunately because of increase pricing of electricity, there was little impact on the budget.

The Ice King scraper that had been utilized for many years was replaced by “The Boss” Ice Scraper. The new scraper allows the ice to be resurface more quickly and safely by staff. The Ice King actually died part way through a scrap the day before the new Boss arrived! Talk about just in time delivery.

There was no sign of the ice heaving this year. Mike Dales attributes that to the “Low E” ceiling’. Interestingly, there was an unanticipated learning curve involved in managing the new environment created by the addition of the “Low E” ceiling. The ceiling has resulted in more favorable ice management conditions with the interior of the building maintaining a more stable temperature, despite outdoor fluctuations. This more stable temperature has had an impact on the recent controlled melts. It is taking longer to complete a melt as the temperature in the arena is more stable. In addition, due to the shape of the roof (low at the sides to a peak in the middle) the outside sheets melt first leaving the centre sheets (half of 2 & 4 and all of 3) still un-melted. This resulted in more swing on sheets 2 & 4 away from sheet 3. Mike Dales has a plan to address this during the upcoming season.

To address the risk of further brine leaks, the Board approved the replacement of three lines under the ice over the summer. Each of these lines had been repaired in the past, meaning there was at least one ‘joint’ in the line, which would potentially increase the risk of failure in the future. The new lines have no joints under the ice mitigating the risk.

There were fewer issues with the ice over the season, due to the diligence of Mike and his staff. On behalf of the Ice Committee I would like to recognize the efforts of Mike Dales and his ice staff for making the ice in this exceptionally busy club be the best that it can be.

HOUSE – PRESENTED BY BARB WANTUCHOWICZ

Good evening curlers and welcome back to another exciting season.

As the representative of the House Committee we had some exciting things happen this year.

The biggest news was our Bathroom renovation. It looks great and I wanted to thank the committee of Marion Freeborn, Heather Riley and Jeannie Davies for their interior design expertise.

As you can see, the Ladies and Men’s washrooms as well as the Ladies locker room have undergone some updating and it looks great.

Replacement of floors, tiles, sinks, toilets and painting are just a few of the improvements made.

Updating some high tech lighting and towel dispensers should serve us well for the upcoming season.

These improvements will serve the Club well as we move into the next decade.

I have just completed my final year on the board and I wanted to thank all my fellow Board members and a special thank-you to Brian whose was a close liaison.

SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE – PRESENTED BY DAN SHIELDS

Sponsorship is so important to the Burlington Curling Club. The sponsorship total for the 2015 – 2016 curling season was well over $30,000. Our valued Sponsors range from large corporations to small businesses to just regular club members. BCC appreciates them all. Every member, every section, every event, every club improvement, all parts of our club benefits from our Sponsors and that is a huge reason why our club is so successful.

This past year BCC has one new Platinum sponsor:

* Williams Distinctive Gems. Thank you to Chuck Smith for securing this sponsor.

Much of the sponsorship administration and interaction is handled by our Sponsor Reps and Brian and Cindy in the office, I would like to thank them for their hard work to make the job easy and rewarding.

WEBSITE COMMITTEE – PRESENTED BY DAN SHIELDS

One of the keep components to any successful organization is “Communication”. The Burlington Curling Club does a great job communicating with its members. The Club website is a very effective tool to communicate with the membership. Members can use the website to gain information about current and upcoming events at the Club and even events at other Clubs. This past year the website was updated with “payment on-line” functionality which is a great convenience for the club membership and staff here at the club.

On behalf of the BCC Board of Directors, I would like to thank Larry Couse (a club member) who helps administer the BCC website. Larry was very diligent in ensuring that the site was updated on a regular basis and that information was added to the site in a seamless fashion.

If members have any ideas or suggestions for the website, please bring them forward to myself or Brian Moore.

PRESENTATION OF THE PRESIDENT’S PIN Frank Rowe presented The President’s Pin to Rob Gregg. INTRODUCTION OF 2016 - 2017 PRESIDENT BY ROB GREGG Message from incoming President Joe Taylor Joe Taylor presented the following comments: Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen Thank you for this opportunity. Little did I expect to be your president when I was accepted to the Board of Directors in 2014. It is a humbling honour. Most of you know me, but for those of you that don’t, let me introduce myself. I have been a member of the Burlington Curling Club since 2004, when my wife, Val and I joined the mixed section. My slide wasn't very pretty then and as some of you have seen, it isn't all that pretty now, but I've come to love the game and this club. I have made many lifelong friends at the BCC, and now participate in the Mixed, Evening Men’s, Day Mens “CYOT” League, and the Sunday Morning League. I am a member of the Men’s Section Executive and volunteer for the Grandiose Gamble. I also sit on the board for the Men's section of the Hamilton and District Bonspiels. Prior to my retirement, I worked as a police officer within the region of HALTON for almost 35 years, and during that time I've have participated with a variety of organizations and I recognize how vibrant and successful the BCC is. We all know that this is a great club – made great by the people; the sponsors, the members, the staff and the volunteers all have a part. They exemplify what I have come to learn is the “Spirit of Curling”. That spirit is alive and well in this club. It is part of our culture. The Burlington Curling Club is a welcoming, open and inclusive organization. We are blessed with great people, good ice and quality but friendly competition. Some of those ‘great people’ have now completed their time on the Board of Directors. I want to take a moment to recognize the members leaving the board. Doug Renshaw and Barb Wantochowicz offered insightful perspectives, ensuring that the board considered all options available when addressing emerging issues. Their efforts made us better and are appreciated. Rob Gregg offered quiet leadership and guided the Board through a variety of issues during his tenure. He worked diligently to ensure the continued success of our club. I thank Rob for his guidance, support and most importantly his friendship during the past years. Congratulations Rob on your many successes. I would be remiss, if I didn’t thank Brian Moore and his staff. Through their efforts, we have great ice, quality food and refreshments, and a hospitable environment to enjoy them. Thanks Brian and staff, for all you do behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of our club. Most importantly I want to recognize each of you. Your commitment, involvement and support are the

things that make this club the great place it is. Thank you for your willingness to participate to ensure that the Burlington Curling Club continues to be a premier curling venue, envied by many other clubs. Being here tonight matters. Lastly, I want to welcome our new Board Members. Kim, Adam and Paul each bring unique skills and enthusiasm. They are welcome additions to the Board of Directors. I look forward to their input. Welcome back and good curling throughout the 2016 - 2017 season. Motion #10 - Adjournment of Meeting Bob Biehler motioned that the meeting adjourned Motion carried.
