schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 . The application website is
OPEN and closes on Friday, 18 May 2018. No late applications will be accepted.
School Uniforms
Please ensure all students are in correct school uniform. Students should not be wearing any coloured
stockings, socks, jumpers other than our school colours and uniform. While it is cool of a morning,
students do not need skivvies etc as all rooms are heated and the students become very distressed after
playtimes as they overheat.
Old Uniforms Required – If you have any old school uniforms we would love them for the school office
and the second hand clothing pool. Small sizes would be very much appreciated.
School Photos - Thursday, 24 May
School Photos will be held on Thursday, 24 May. All students need to be in full winter school
uniform. Please ensure all students are in the correct uniform, which includes their school
jacket/jumper. All students need their photo envelop on the day even if it has been paid for
online as the envelopes are scanned when students have their individual photos so all names
are correct.
School Leaders and House Leaders
The school leaders and house leaders’ photos will be taken prior to 9am. I ask that all school
leaders and house leaders meet Mrs Bromwich on the basketball court (or hall if raining) at
8.40am. These photos will be taken after the staff photograph.
DATES TO REMEMBER
NAPLAN
Our students at Burnside Public School have transitioned well to NAPLAN online this year. The
students completed their assessments online except for the year 3 writing was via pen and
paper. Students appeared very relaxed with this style of testing.
Please visit the NAPLAN Online website for all information and demonstrations of the site. https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment

Year 6 Market Day – Save the date! Thursday 5th July
Year 6 will be holding a Market Day on Thursday 5th July to raise money for their Year 6 gift to the
school. All students from Burnside Public School will be able to join in the market day and buy show bags,
food, games, toys and much more. In order to make this day a success we are asking families for your
assistance in making this a success.
Book Club
Book Club Issue 3 - The last day for orders to be at school will be Monday, 21 May 2018.
Please remember to place the order in the office letterbox.
Woolworths Earn and Learn
The Woolworths Earn and Learn items have finally arrived. Burnside Public School was able to purchase
new post protectors for our multi-purpose court and maths equipment for all students to use.
Thank you to all those families who helped collect the earn and learn stickers in 2017.
Coles Sport for Schools 2018 (from 7th February to 3rd April 2018)
Burnside Public School has sent off all our tokens and are waiting to finalise our order for some news
sports equipment. Thank you to everyone who supported this venture. The students will be very excited
when the new equipment arrives.
Absent Notes
Please return all absent notes to the office for processing. It is a mandatory requirement that all
parents provide a written reason for absence for any days absent from school – this can be via a
note, email or via the school App. Extended Leave Absences relating to travel will be marked as
LEAVE on the roll and therefore contribute to your child’s total absences for the year. If your
child is to be absent for more than 3 weeks, an Application for Extended Leave should be
collected from the school office and completed and returned at least two weeks before travelling.
Pedestrian Bridge
Could I please encourage all families to use the pedestrian bridge. Using the bridge teaches our students
to use a safe passage across one of the busiest roads in Sydney and also allows traffic to flow out of
Masons Drive quicker of an afternoon. The lift is functioning for those who do not want to walk up the
stairs. Thank you for your consideration.
Assembly Awards
Stage 3 Historical Newspaper
To support their Historical Newspaper Project Stage 3 students have been
researching and collecting information on significant events that occurred in
Australia between 1800 and 1900. Mrs Henning, Lucy’s grandmother,
visited both Year 5 and Year 6. She shared stories of her own family history
and answered the student’s questions supporting their projects. The
students were engaged and learned so much from such a knowledgeable
source.
