Birth to Three News

No home visits: October 14-18

The Birth to Three program follows a calendar which is different from the school District calendar of September to June. This calendar involves “stretching” out the 10 month school year over 12 months. As a result, there will be some weeks during the regular school year when the Birth to Three staff will not be making home visits. Families are provided with a calendar that indicates the weeks that Birth to Three services will be provided over the 12 month period.

Early Childhood Screening

Students enrolled in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) are NOT required to go through the preschool/kindergarten screening process. All areas of your child’s development are assessed and monitored by his/her education team, including health screenings for: vision, hearing, height, and weight. These screenings are completed at least once before your child enters kindergarten. In addition, students may also receive hearing or vision screenings upon request from their parents/guardians or at the request of a teacher, if the teacher suspects that there may be a hearing or vision concern that is affecting the student’s ability to learn. If your child fails any part of the hearing or vision screening, the health office will re-screen the child within four weeks to verify the results. If the student fails the second screening, a letter will be sent home with the student outlining the findings and recommendation for follow-up with a physician. If at any time you question your child's hearing, vision, height or weight, feel free to contact the health office at 952-895-6613.
