Make It Happen
June 1, 2007
To All,
Attached is an updated copy of our Strategy and the FY-2008 MIH,GIR and the newly added “I Am Burris”. Please read these and discuss with you super-visor as you seek to understand and then help us make these values a reality throughout Burris.
The “Make It Happen” theme is an attitude as we approach all aspects of our job. Particularly it is an attitude as it relates to servicing the “Customer”!
The “Get It Right” theme is our focus and should be a questioning of how we do things and with a constant search for a better way. We should always be try-ing to improve all aspects of the business.
The “I Am Burris” theme is to remind all of us that we are Burris to those we come in contact with. Please accept the fact that you are Burris and that you represent our Company in all you do!
We will be expanding Burris this next year with a new facility in Connecti-cut as well as an expansion to our Lakeland facility. We will also be taking back the Benson facility from Smithfield as of next week. Alan Perry will be the new G.M. of that facility. He has been in Atlanta assisting us in The Fresh Market start-up.
We will probably have 1,500 associates by the end of this next year so com-munication will be more of a challenge. I will try to e-mail you regularly so that you will know what is happening.
Thank you for all your efforts this past year. Atlanta was certainly a chal-lenge and The Fresh Market people seem to be thrilled with the outstanding ser-vice that Danny Downes and crew are giving! We look forward to another excit-ing year and new opportunities.
Thank you,
Bob
Robert D. Burris Burris Logistics, CEO

Make It Happen
Make It Happen-Get It Right-I Am Burris (FY-2008)People-
• Get the right people on the bus and in the right seats. All people should be treated fairly and with respect. The right people are our greatest asset! Reward based on performance not entitlement! Need people with a strong work ethic who are committed. Stakeholders are as important as shareholders. (No reserved parking) ”I Am Burris”
• Train, motivate, and communicate with your people regularly. Use the “One Minute Manager” and “Good to Great” as starters for your group. Use the “Team Approach” in structuring your business. Consider daily 7-minute stand up meetings at start of the day (8:06?).
• Get 45 hours of well-planned effort from all managers. Except for start-ups or unusual circumstances, more than 45 hours should not be the norm. 56 sleep, 45 work (Does not include lunch), 67 family/personal = 168 total weekly hours.
• Positive attitudes are crucial for MIH to be successful. No “stinking thinking “! This needs to be internalized and reinforced! Embrace change as a positive! (Digital cameras)
•
Management-• Walk around daily. All RVP’s and General Managers should work in warehouse a half day per month and keep
current with new systems and technologies.• Your worth as a manager is how well you assist and make successful the people who report to you. Who is
your successor and is he/she prepared for the future?• Be professional in all you do. Our reputation is everything and our integrity is crucial. Think well of the “face
in the mirror”. Be sure your ego is in check. Remember the upside down pyramid! Be a “Servant Leader”! • The speed of the leader determines the pace of the pack! Before and after. Be on time for all meetings. Facts
and not just opinions! Be responsible for your actions and your decisions. All of your people should feel they are significant to you. People quit their supervisors, not the Company!
• Focus on productivity. KPIs (key performance indicators) on all the key elements of your business. If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. Enhance Revenue, Increase Productivity, and Reduce Expense.
• Focus on the cost of your operation. Always look for a better way or a better process. ($.126-$.075-$.165) (Seat miles) (Engineered Labor Standards-Finding a Better Way!)
• Operate clean, well-maintained, safe facilities. No red numbers on the Ahern Report!• Do you have a good plan? All your people should have MIH and GIR goals. • Empower the people. Encourage creativity, involvement, and decision-making. Remember the “waterline
principle” and will it really sink the boat?
Customers-• Focus on the Customers’ needs and wants. The Customer is the only required element for a business.
Never take a Customer for granted! Think “I Am Burris”.• There are only two rules for a Customer. Rule #1-The Customer is always right! Rule #2 When the Customer is
wrong, go back and reread Rule #1.(SL)• Visit often and ask how you can assist! “WOW” is the goal for all our people. Stress “I Am Burris”.• Always look for new customers and new services for current customers. Transportation, C-stores, food service,
retail, military and government, dry, import-export, assembly, etc, etc. (East Coast stomachs)• Achieve and exceed your financial goals. Profit is the reward from a satisfied customer. Be pro-active not
reactive early in the year. Value enhancement moves customers up the scale.
Have fun and celebrate your successes with your people. Fy-2008 is the year to “Make It Happen”,” Get it Right”, and develop “I Am Burris” in you and your people.

2006 driver Safety awards Banquet: THE OrLAnDO TrAnspOrTATiOn DEpArTMEnT hosted their annual safety Awards Banquet on sunday, February 24, 2007, coordinated by Hali nardi, in honor of their drivers who were dedicated to safety in 2006. The banquet began at 3:00 at Cecil’s Texas style Bar-B-Q, where the drivers and their guests enjoyed a southern style buffet and got a chance to mingle with old friends and meet the new members of the Burris team. After lunch, there were eight gift certificates provided by ryder, raffled out to the drivers with the winning tickets. Charles Hollowell, the Transportation Manager, started the ceremony with a few accomplishments the department had achieved in the previous year. After thanking the drivers for, “Making it Happen,” he introduced the representatives from ryder who spoke briefly about how much they enjoyed doing business with Burris in 2006 and looked forward to future growth. Hollowell read off the drivers’ names beginning with those who had just joined the team and ending with the driver who had been there the longest, rodney Hess, five years. Every driver received a Burris cooler filled with an assortment of snacks. The drivers who had reached their one-year and up anniversaries received pins, Visa gift cards, and safety certificates according to their year. After all drivers were recognized, Maurice Haynes and Charles Dydowicz were honored for hitting the half million miles of safe driving mark and received Burris wristwatches. Last but not least, the entire place was on the edge of their seats to hear who the drivers of the year were. Maurice Haynes won second place driver, a personalized coat from Burris, one weeks paid vacation, and $750.00 cash. rene pinter won driver of the year for his excellent work according to customer feedback, attention to details, and his pride in work equipment. pinter went home with an all-expense paid, seven day cruise to 5 Hawaiian islands, $1,000.00 spending cash, one weeks paid vacation, and his own personalized leather coat. The afternoon banquet was a success and we look forward to a safe and productive year in 2007.

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS!
• An eligible employee will earn one entry per month when not involved in a reportable incident or lost time incident.
• If an employee is involved in a reportable incident, he/she will not earn an entry for that month.
• If an employee is involved in or causes a lost time incident, he/she will be disqualified from the program. The only exception is if the employee injured did not cause the lost time injury, however the injured employee will lose all entries for each month until returned to full unrestricted duty. An employee who causes an injury but is not injured himself/herself will be disqualified from the program. The local safety committee will make recommendations regarding the application of the exception and who caused the injury. The facility manager will either approve the recommendation of the committee or make another determination, if warranted by the facts.
• An employee who has not had a reportable or lost time incident for the entire 12-month period will also be awarded an additional 4 entries.
DRAWINGS:
A) Quarterly drawings will be held after the end of the quarter.B) Annual drawing for the annual prize, the Toyota Tacoma Truck will be held during June 2008.
The company reserves the right to change the terms of the Program or to eliminate the Program in its entirety. The Company’s decisions as to eligibility and/or the earning of entries shall be final, and the timing and method of the drawings shall be solely and exclusively determined by the company.
Sincerely,
Frank AhernCorporate Director of Safety, Health, & Environment-
