Design Goals:Model 367 BiPod
A plug-in-Hybrid-Electric car/airplane
Aircraft Performance:Takeoff/landing < 400 ft (props and wheels for acceleration, and using aggressive 4-wheel brakes for landing decel).Range (18 gal car gas) 530 miles at 197 mph/12,000 ft.Range (18 gal) 760 miles at 100 mph/8,000 ft (42 mpg).Electric-only - Takeoff and two patterns to 600 ft agl (44 lb Li-Ph batteries)
Car Performance:Urban range (electric only, with 2.4 Kw-hr Li-Ph batteries) = 35 miles.
Freeway Range (18 gal car gas) 820 miles at 65 mph (46 mpg).
Fits in a single-car garage (8 x 18.5 ft)Can operate from any roads without side obstacles.Takeoff/landing requires only a 800-ft dirt road.

Model 367 BiPOD flying carGross weight = 1430 lb Span = 31.8 ft AR = 12.5Fuel - 18-gallons car gas + a 1.2 Kw-hr Li-Ph battery pack in each nose.Four 15kw motors for propellers. Two 15kw motors for aft wheels.Complete left-right redundancy for propulsion systems (IC engine, generator, motors/props, battery pack, drive wheel/motor and fuel).Electric power generation - 78kw (39 per side) at 12,000 ft; liquid-cooled 4-stroke, 4 valves/cyl, fuel-injected (two COTS-motorcycle engines).

Pilot flies from the right cockpit using a side-stick for pitch/roll, rudder pedals with brakes for brake steering. Two throttle quadrants; one for the 4 props, another for the main wheels for takeoff and rotation boost. The wheel throttles are also used for taxi with props stopped. Differential wheel torque assists brakes for steering.

Conversion, Car-to-Airplane or Airplane-to-Car - requires one person and 10 minutes work.Driver drives in the left pod using steering wheel, throttle quadrant (with reverse) and a brake pedal. Car passenger rides in the right pod. Wing LE is hollow allowing communication and swapping lunch/etc.Two long baggage areas - two sets of golf clubs (or skis) and four soft suitcases.

Model 367 BiPod showing packaging for car mode.Wings stow between pods, under wing/tail. Center wing flap raises to provide down-load.
Vertical fin tops are moved to the nose, providing aerodynamic down-load on nose wheels.Tie-bar (stowed in baggage area for flying) ties the nose wheels together for positive, car-mode 2-wheel steering.
