Legacy systems

Legacy systems are the hardware and software systems that a companyalready uses. They are a huge investment and can be customized to meet acompanys exact needs.

Mainframe computers Mainframe computers are the core of a companys information processingand information system.

Microprocessors Microprocessors can also be called computers on chips. These chips areless powerful than mainframe computers, but opened up opportunity forindividual computing.

PCs A smaller version of a mainframe that was designed for personal andindividual use. It could and can be programmed to do whatever the userwants.

Network computers Network computers are computers that are linked together in a networkfor better communications between them. A collection of client PCs into acentral server is called a local area network. |

World Wide Web and Internet Software that connects databases to different institutions making itpossible to hold information on web pages. The internet is made up ofcomputer hardware that connects them to a global network.

Wired and wireless broadbandtechnology

A type of communications hardware that allows for the rapidtransmission of vast amounts of information.

PC software A collection of computer programs and related data that provide theinstructions for telling a computer what to do and how to do it.

Networking software Network software is the information, data or programming used to makeit possible for computers to communicate or connect to one another.

Computer security software Computer Security Software is software that gives a companys PCs safeaccess to the Internet but that blocks computers from outside the firmfrom gaining access to the companys intranet.
