L&T - Megaduct Busbar Trunking System

Busbar trunking system (BBT), performs the function of transporting current form one point to the other. Traditionally cables were used for this function.

BBT goes beyond what cables do. BBT can tap off powerto switchgear for further distribution using tap of boxes. In comparison to cables, BBT can thus serve asdistribution panels at different stages (at floors of abuilding). BBT thus continues as a single systems toreplace cables as well as distribution boards at floor levelfor building (commercial or industrial).

L&T introduces world-class sandwich Busbar TrunkingSystem (BBT) under the brand L&T-Megaduct to itsvalued Indian customers. The BBT is totally enclosed,non-ventilated design busbar and is fully insulated usinghalogen free fire retardant insulation.L&T-MegaductBBT system offer a superior alternative to cables andother bus trunking options through this compact andscalable range of system thus providing an enhancedsolution to power transmission and distribution inbuildings as well as industry.

Busbar trunking system is of two types:

    1) Sandwich

    2) Air Insulated

Sandwich Busbar trunking system is preferred widely due to its advantages over Air insulated busbars aswell as cables, some of which are mentioned below.

    Benefits of Sandwich Construction :

Compactness : Sandwich construction render to the BBT system more compact than airinsulated bus bar system, thus making them a preferred choice in plant roomand building applications.

Energy efficiency : Compactness of sandwich construction results in higher efficiency due to lowervoltage drop and impedance. This ensures all connected equipment run cooler.

Flexible : Additions of floor to a building or any expansion to an existing system isextremely simple with sandwich BBT. They are scalable & elegant.

Safe & Sure : Higher mechanical strength over long runs, better electrical conductivity and

lower mV drop which ensures high reliability. Ability to withstand high shortcircuit currents make them doubly safe.

Fire retardant : Sandwich construction do not have air gap due to which natural progression of fire is inhibited. Insulation being flame retardant provides better resistance tospread of fire.

Economical : Inherently flexible design ensures easy installation and maintenance thusresulting in lower installation and maintenance costs.

L&T Megaduct busbar trunking system is of sandwich construction, totally enclosed, well insulateddesign. It is used ( as feeder busbar ) for interconnection between transformer/generator to powerdistribution centers and as plug-in ( busbar risers ) in building power systems. Cast resin busduct arealso available for outdoor application. These busducts are suitable for operation in a 600/1000V system.

    System Voltage :

600V and up to maximum 1000V / 3P / 50 Hz or 60 Hzconstructed in various configurations of 3 phase 3 wireor 3 phase 4 wire with or without 50% integral housingground and separate earth bar. The earth bar (50% or100%) can be installed. To counter excessive harmoniceffects, 200% neutral can also be provided on request.

    Current Ratings :

Wide range of current rating from 100A to 6300A forCopper Conductor and upto 5000A for AluminiumConductors.

Insulation : 0 All Busbars have Class H-180 C standard epoxy coating

as insulation material which provides 100% waterproofing and high mechanical strength. Alternately we

0also provide multilayer Class F-155 C insulation. Thesebusducts are designed & tested in accordance with IEC60-439-2 and BS 5486

Benefits of using epoxy coating as insulation :Withstands glitch and spikes in electrical system sothat system is stable & runs reliably

Provides rooms for expansion/contraction duringpeak and off-peak hours to avoid tracking in surfaceof insulation

Capable of withstanding heat shock thus minimisingchances of failure due to spark or excess heat

High mechanical strength so that insulation damageby accidental impact is reduced

High thermal conductivity to provide uniformdistribution of heat, hence system runs cooler

Water and chemical resistant which makes it suitablefor use in corrosive and humid environment

    Horizontal / Vertical BusBars :

All L&T Megaduct copper busbars are of highconductivity (IACS 99.98%) copper bar with high purity(>99.95%), or aluminum bars with conductivity >61%.

All copper busbars are tin or silver plated and fullyinsulated.

    The busbars are tropicalised to withstand higher0 0temperature rise of 50 C- 55 C.

Standard lengths of 3M / 2M / 1M up to 0.45M. Otherlengths will be made available as required.

    Housing :

L&T Megaduct Busbar Trunking have a rugged housingprofile and provide the most efficient way to dissipateheat through conduction and natural convection. Allhousings are constructed from 1.6mm electro-

galvanized steel sheet coated with oven baked polyesterpowder paint or epoxy coated powder which alsoprovides maximum mechanical strength againstelectromagnetic stresses.

The straight bus ducts are expected to carry their fullrated current for required lengths and in order toovercome extreme rugged conditions at site, the newL&T Megaduct joint has been designed precisely andmanufactured using the highest quality of materials to

minimize all possible problems and enhance systemperformance.

Benefits of Single Bolt Bridge Joint:

Incorporates a 5mm thermal expansion andmovement at every joint

Allows 15mm of lateral adjustment (total 30mm) tocorrect site measurement inaccuracies

Ability to tilt at an angle of 5 (total 10 > alongsingle axis)
