Opsonin Pharma Limited (OPL) is a renowned pharmaceutical company in

Bangladesh. It produces pharmaceutical products. The company is

committed to improve its position continuously as a leading

pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh and strengthen its global

presence. Opsonin is now a big company with more than 1800

employees. Let’s see how they are motivated.

In an interview the Head of its Human Resources Department Dr. Sayem

Ahmed said, “After my joining, I found that this organization is very good

but there were certain limitations. Employees were not really happy with

their job because there were no salary-benchmarking. Then I installed a

competitive salary structure and made a balance between company’s

affordability and employee’s satisfaction. After that I managed other

facilities for them so that they feel happy and provide the expected

performance to the company.”

Opsonin has the affiliation with Pharmaceutical Executive Club. Opsonin

sends their employees to that club to make them familiar with the

pharmaceutical business environment. As a member of the club they can

participate in different club organized events like- National Day events,

Indoor & outdoor sports etc. If an employee provides his best

performance OPL puts him up to the Board of Trustees.

Opsonin has its own Fitness Club. This club is maintaining a Gym for the

employees at the rooftop of its Corporate Office. Employees are

encouraged to go there to keep their mind and body healthy and fit.

At the 2nd floor of the corporate office, there is a Dining Hall where 570

employees can take their meal at a time.

The environment of OPL is very friendly. The power distance is moderate.

Employees are encouraged to cooperate with each other.

The tight security is also a part of OPL’s corporate environment. It has its

own security force equipped with all modern gadgets for the purpose of

fulfilling their duties. CCTV to monitor activities surrounds the premises.

Opsonin has training programs throughout the year. They have a training

calendar prepared by the Human Resources Department. According to

the calendar they arrange In-house Training Program and they also send

their employees abroad for training.

Dr. Sayem added, “I think if we provide job security to the employees

they will be loyal to the organization. So I make them understand that

Fredrik Fernando is a 38 years old Swedish working at a five star hotel in India. He

has joined this hotel with 12 years’ working experience. He is a

Hospitality Management graduate and he previously worked at an

international hotel in Australia. This Indian hotel authority hired him with

a high monthly salary of Rs. 35,000/-. He is working as the Banquet

Manager here. He is a married person & has two children. His family isalso living with him in India.

Fredrik has to work 12 hours a day and 6 days a week. He can spend a

little time with his family only on Sunday. His family wants him for more

time and wants to go to their home country Sweden for a vacation. But

as the summer vacation is going on, Fredrik is very busy with his hotel.

This is a busy season for his hotel and the hotel authority has no other

alternative to Fredrik.

Hotel authority gave a well furnished apartment flat to Fredrik. But

Fredrik is thinking as his children are growing they need to have some

open space to ensure their proper growth. Also he has to think about the

future of his children. If they grow up in this county, they might face

difficulty in their home country. He has an unsecured feeling.

He is working here for 3 years and now wants to have some more

exploration relevant to the field. He wants to know the recent practices of

hospitality management and wants to learn how to cook Mexican dish or

how the Veggie Washer (vegetable cleaner) works.

Fredrik uses a BMW car provided by his Hotel. But his wife wants him tobuy a new car for the family so that children can switch from their piano

school to home easily.

As an executive of a five star hotel, Fredrik has met many renowned

people from home and abroad while working at this hotel. He has built

personal affiliation with some of them which sometimes is really helpful.

Actually it is not only the high salary that drives him to this job but also

the strong interest of the hotel authority to him. Beside that from the

very early age of his graduate school it was his strong internal desire to

travel the world through his entire life.

Fredrik has discovered that India is a very nice place for him. Nice

environment with nice people. Now his dream is to reach the best

position of his field. He wants his own hotel with five stars on it at his

later age. He wants his own world with his own authority.
