Key BI Initiatives: "Big Data" is near the bottom of the list. Dashboards and Self-Service BI are higher priorities for BI practitioners. #2: Multiple BI Tools: Even small organizations (1-25 employees) reported 2 or more BI tools in use. For larger organizations the number of BI tools in use was likely to be even higher. #3: BI Champions: The functional groups that drive BI initiatives include Executive Management, Finance, Sales, Operations, IT, Strategic Planning, and Marketing. #4: Vendor Performance: Large BI vendors generally had lower overall customer ratings. The "BI Titans" (Infor, Microsoft, IBM/Cognos, Oracle, and SAP/Business Objects) had an average overall rating of 3.59, while all other vendors in the survey had an average overall rating of 4.28. #5: Vendor Performance: One BI vendor outscored all the others. Dimensional Insight received the #1 overall score among all 24 BI vendors (4.64). Dimensional Insight also received top scores in key categories including Value, Consulting, Support, and Integrity, and also received a perfect 5.0 rating for Vendor Recommendation. In spite of the pervasive hype surrounding “Big Data,” today’s in-the-trenches BI practitioners report they are more focused on “fundamental and traditional” needs

Dashboards, self-service reporting, visualization, and mobile device support topped the list

Even in small organizations (1 – 25 employees) over 50% of responders reported 2 or more BI products in use

In organizations with more than 10,000 employees, over 70% of responders reported 2 or more BI products in use, and nearly 50% reported 4 or more BI products in use
