Introduction Organisations are continually looking at their interaction
portals with Customers
Internet is emerging as a main source for interaction
Service portals need to be user-friendly and effective
Inter-active sites are replacing static info pages
Customer navigation preferences differ (provide options)
Time and efficiency are key drivers
Use of Geographic Information Science (GIS) is ideal Integrated computer system for capturing, storing,
querying, analysing and displaying geo-spatial data Customers are familiar with this (google maps, GPS,
etc) Used extensively in web sites currently
Project Purpose To select a site currently in use as a starting point
Build in input and advice from business owner
Demonstrate the benefits of geo-spatial components
Integrate a number of methods (web site & mapping & script)
To provide a prototype for enhancement of a web site
Generate some discussions on streamlining the site
Ideally for some of the ideas to be built in
To work as a project team, tapping into skill sets
Web Site chosen and observations
Inland Revenue – Seminars and Workshops sites
Aware that this service is of prime focus for advisors
Found under www.ird.govt.nz, when searching for “Seminars”
Opening note: This already provides a strong platform for the service (already a well thought out site in place)
Ideas provided are around making this interactive and more user-friendly
Some fine tuning suggestions noted: Difficult to locate existing pages (more links & main
page link?) Some regions have e-mail link, others don’t No option to see larger region lists (e.g. Auckland) Some differences in each regional page layout
Input from the Business Met with the business to run over the project
Discussed early ideas and options
Clarified on the workshops/seminars, regions, and categories
Confirmed contact details required, and additional useful info, e.g. Type (Employer, self-employed, etc) Interest (GST, Rental, etc) Stage (New Business, established, etc)
Discussed potential longer term enhancements
Organised for presentation back to the business
Research of Options Google Map interface
New Zealand (mxd) map already in production

Placement of markers on map for each region with: available seminars/workshops shown Or, having a list prompt for types on
the side
Figure 1: Interactive Map with place mark locators
