havebeenaffectedbythesenaturaldisasters.Norshouldbusinessownersdiscountsmallerevents,suchaswatermainbreaksandpoweroutages,whichcanprovejustasdetrimental.Everyyear,electricalpowersurges,spikes,andoutagesyieldmorethan$150billionindamagestotheU.S.economy.Noorganization—whethersmall,large,for-profit,ornon-profit—isinvincibletotheaftermathofadisaster.

TheDepartmentofHomelandSecurity(DHS)begandevelopingtheprograminDecember2008.PS-Prep™isavoluntaryprogramdesignedtoprotectprivatesectorentities(corporateentities,small-tomedium-sizedbusinesses,andnon-profits)againsttheeffectsofadisruption.Byequippingleadersandstaffwithkeyresources,PS-Prep™canimproveanorganization’sabilitytomaintainoperationsduringandafteranemergency.
