INTRODUCTION
Nowadays its notorious the absence of system administration and maintenance in many
small to medium business organization, this happens due to lack of qualified personnel and
partly due to a lack of interest of the managers into organizations in maintaining computer
systems upgraded, secure and with high performance.
This project is part of the requirements in order to conclude the module of System
Administration and Maintenance, course of information technology on Catholic University of
Mozambique, faculty of economics and management. He shows the upgrade of computer
network and improves the system administration in Businessman Orientation Centre ofManica, COrE - Manica in Portuguese acronym.
The objectives of the project are updating the informatics system in this institution and begin
to explore the advanced features offered by the computer networks with reliability,
performance and security.
Concepts of Businessman Orientation Centre
Businessman Orientation Centre of Manica is an autonomous institution established in March
2011, under the public - private partnership between the Institute for the Promotion of Small
and Medium Enterprises (IPEME), Sociedade de Investimentos, Ltd. (GAPI), Patel & Filhos,
Ltd., and the Higher Polytechnic Institute of Manica (ISPM). That together deploys effort to
the creation, incubation and guidance to small and medium enterprises in Manica Province.
According to its organic structure, the main objectives of the Businessman Orientation Centre
of Manica are:
Provide consulting services to small and medium entrepreneurs in articles about themanagement of their business;
Making technical support tojuniors businessman; Encourage Mozambicans young to embrace the business; Train youngers businessman and the public at large in entrepreneurship, innovation

INFORMATION SYSTEM MANAGEMENT IN BUSINESSMAN ORIENTATION
CENTER
Now the Businessman Orientation Center of Manica is working in on big room at Academic
Cultural Centre of Higher Polytechnic Institute of Manica. At the height of the constitution of
the new organization The ISPM committed to manage all equipment and system computers
of new organization and indicated one of its employees to do so. But before the project run,
this employer was ordered to study a higher education course outside of the province, which
until now has not been substituted due to a lack of qualified staff, leaving the center without
systems administrator.
Consonant which we have been studying in this course, I have to consider the following
aspects to be taken into the system information of this organization:
Hardware Management
Today the Businessman Orientation Center is equipped with flowing hardware:
7 (seven) Dell Desktop computers - Optplex 380; 3 (tree) Dell LaptopVostro 3555; 7 (Seven) UPS 800VA; 1(One) Printer HP 2015 dn; 1(One) Cannon Multifunction; 1 (One) Fax; 2 (two) Acer Data Show; 2(two) Telephone.
There are a lot of complaints from users about equipment performance, especially computers;
they reported to me that the performances of the machines are 60% lower than expected.
Latching systems, blue screen with automatic shutdown, automatic restart, corrupted files,
and damaged applications are among the main problems reported.

Communication Management
The Connection to network is implemented by a wireless system, shared with the main
network of the Academic Cultural Center of the Higher Polytechnic Institute of Manica;
Desktops are equipped with wireless network cards and connected to a router of cultural
academic center, making the system totally dependent of the ISPM. The Local Telephone and
Fax are also connected to TDM wireless network, through CDMA technology.
There dont have server for management of the institution; sometimes users face difficulties
in sharing data and connect to the printer (just gave to understand that the network is not
consistent). The networks services used are print sharing, file sharing, DHCP server enabled
and internet access.
The dream of the director of the institution is to see the local computer network completely
independent of third parties and to have a centralized management system. In some times the
ISPM has complained of high costs of Internet, accusing some employees of the Businessman
Orientation Center as the mentors of exaggerated Internet consumption. They are partners
yes, but are institutions legally different.
Software and User Management
The Laptops and Desktops are working with defaults configuration of MS Windows 7
Professional. The Administration and Guest account are disabled. Users have complained
about lack of privacy, especially when another colleague piece to use the computer. The
Director of the Center complains about a few days ago one employer missed and others were
deprived of access relevant data to the work (The computer was password protected). The
employers are using an administrator account in all computers; sometime they install and
remove critical application. Security and Office application is most used application software.
Security Management
Protective features were found is use of antivirus, prohibition of physical access to computers
to non authorized people, use of password in the accounts of employees and firewall
monitored by antivirus.

However, antivirus licenses are already out of date, the passwords of the employees dont
meet the high security rules, which character or combination of characters can be password,
the users have full access to the Internet and download.
File management
The files of the organization are basically stored in computers; each employee is responsible
for keeping their data. There is no specific rule about storing data; each organizes as folders
as her want.
The Center has two external hard drives to backup data; however the backup does not happen
regularly. There is no database for data storage; data as list of junior companies are supported
by Excel.

UPGRADE OF INFORMATION SYSTEM IN BUSINESSMAN ORIENTATION
CENTER
After analysis of the existing information system in Businessman Orientation Center of
Manica, in this chapter I propose the project to upgrade the computer network and improve
the management system. The project design was based on to solve the failure and complaints
verified in the system that currently exists.
The main objectives of upgrading the information system to Businessman Orientation Center
are:
Improve the performance of equipment and systems Make an independent local computer network Designing a centralized information system Designing an efficient and consistent file management Enhance security levels within the system Reduce user privileges within the system Form two employees in administration systems
Upgrade of hardware
Analyzing the existing hardware resources, understand there arent many reasons for touches
in this section, the most important thing here is to purchase a server that meets the objectives
of the organization. The server will help to implement independent local computer network
ad offer another network services that is impossible without local server.
Next follows the specifications of the chosen server and below I present the justification of
the choice.
Parameter Characteristic
Mark Dell
Model PowerEdge T110 II
Form factor Tower

Hard Drive 200GB, SSD, 3.5in
Memory Memory (2x4GB), 1600Mhz, Dual Ranked, Low Volt UDIMM (speed is
CPU dependent)
Processor Intel Xeon E3-1220v2 3.10 GHz, 8M Cache, Turbo, Quad Core/4T
(69W)
Table 1 - Server specification
Figure 1 - Dell Tower Power Edge II Server
Because the infrastructure is currently equipped with 10 computers and there is no assignable
growth plans over the next three years, dont need a large server. For this reason I propose the
purchase of a Dell Power Edge Tower Server with the above specifications.
The choice of SSD Hard Device is related with the fact that this is to offer more security
against physical damage, because it has no movable parts, and recent studies show that SSD
Hard Drive has better performance, high-speed data access and is even considered as devices
storage of the future.
After an analysis of the cashier of the server I checked that he will not have overheating
problems because it is equipped with fans, heat sinks, the box has slits that allow hot air
outlet and inlet ambient air; Apart from that it will be installed an air conditioned room.

Given the objectives of the organization I believe that the quad core processor and 8 GB of
memory, extendable up to 12 GB, are in height of processing users tasks as well as the
system tasks such as manipulation of database, internet access, management files, network
management, etc.
Together with the server I will be purchased an ADSL modem and a wireless router.
Upgrade of Network
The most important aspect in this section will be to restructure the local network giving the
needed independence, security and service improvement.
Once the Businessman Orientation Center use installations borrowed by one partner, I do not
propose to install a wired LAN; its will continue to use the wireless network for
interconnecting; the desktops are already equipped with wireless cards, other equipment will
use an usb-to-wireless device to connect to the server. The server will be installed with the
latest version of Windows Server.
The server will configured with Automatic IP addressing, Activity Directory in domain local
groups. In this point the privacy and privilege problems will be solved.
To reverse the security problem in the wireless system, it will be suffered multiple
authentication. Only registered computer can access to network, following a complex
authentication offered by the server.
Security type: Intel CCKM enterprise
Encryption type: AES CCPM
Network authentication mode: Cisco PEAP
Specify authentication mode: User authentication
IPs will be distributed automatically by DHCP Server obeying the following range:
Network ID:
192.168.1.0

Subnet Mask:
255.255.255.0
Range: Wireless Network
192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.20
Security Management Update
The action to be developed to update the security requirements:
Acquiring new licenses antivirus; Antivirus update automatic configured; Activity Directory will be configured in domain local group to reduce user privileges; Server firewall enabled to preventing access to malicious sites, sites that disseminate;
harmful cultural information, and another unauthorized sites;
The user password must meet complexity requirements Creating an internal informatics security manual; Train all employees in the field of computer security.
File Management Update
To improve the management system file, will be created a centralized database, integrating
all stakeholders and services treated in organization.
All files of employees will be saved in server, being able to access to all employees for such
authorization and privilege rules. Each staff will have privileges to change all files created by
him; for the storage of files system should show the option of sharing, to be share with the
rest of the staff; director of institution and the server administrator will have privileges to
manage all files stored on the server.
Automatic backups every day the 12 hours, the server will make a copy of security for
external hard drive. To make the system protect the system from any possible failure, anotherexternal hard drive will be connected and configured with redundant disk.
