New development plans for Carefree site unveiled

The Cohen Brothers Realty Corporation of Florida Development team has unveiled reduced and revised new Carefree site development plans. The new Carefree site redevelopment project includes reduced versions of the El Flamingo and El Cordova buildings. The Northern building, El Flamingo, is now a 5-story building, including a 600 seat (reduced from 800 seats) six screen cinema, two restaurants, five two-story townhouses, 27 apartments, rooftop clubhouse, pool, and terrace. The building parking is accommodated by a 2-story underground garage with additional street and covered ground floor parking with a mid-site valet drop off and garage entrance. The Southern building, El Cordova, now a four-story building,

provides 10,000 SF of retail space, 26 apartments, pool, and terrace. This building parking is also provided by a 2-story underground garage with additional street parking.

The new design style draws inspiration from Mizner and surrounding historic neighborhood buildings rich in Mediterranean revival architectural vocabulary and conforms to the scale of the surrounding buildings along U.S. Highway 1.

The new Carefree site development plans are designed to activate the U.S. 1 corridor and create a focal point between Downtown, the new Norton Museum and the Southern Boulevard district specialized shopping area.
