Ask for student volunteers who would be willing to participate in this years Buy Nothing Day. Have those that agree sign a Buy Nothing Day pledge sheet.
Next, have a short discussion about what the students will need to do to prepare, such as making a lunch at home in the morning, or carrying a snack in their backpack. Find out if students think it will be dif cult to not buy anything for an entire day. Why or why not?
PART TWO
After Buy Nothing Day, have a follow-up session to discuss your students experiences. Was it dif cult to go an entire day without buying anything? Were they tempted to buy anything? If so, was it something they needed, or something they wanted? Do they still want it? Did not shopping free up time to do other things? Would they participate again next year?
