Casual Grounds Person May 97 to Aug 2011
I started work at Witton in May 97, after being taken on after work experience with college. At first my
main job was based at Witton, setting out athletics equipment, driving tractor, cleaning toilets and changing rooms, maintaining line markings, serving customers on athletics track as well as on the two astro-turfs. I also
covered the running of the café from time to time when the café owner had to go out for the afternoon.
I worked as a casual which suited my other jobs as well. I worked mainly in the evening and days in
holidays from college. In 1999 Witton became in control of the satellite football and cricket pitches around the town. These facilities needed manning so they let me work at them when they needed cover. I worked at
Pleasington, Pleckgate, Blacksnape, Everton playing fields as well as the tennis courts at Coporation Park. At these facilities I have to open up, make sure facility is suitable for use, turn on equipment (showers etc), discuss
timetable with league officials, give out changing room keys, clean changing rooms when teams leave and then
lock up.
