CONNOTATION

• Connotation- an idea or the emotions implied by a word rather than it being described

• Examples:• When saying home sweet home, the word home gives a connotation of safety

and comfort.• When thinking of Christmas it gives a connotation of happiness.

NARRATION

• Narration- the act of telling or giving commentary on a story

• Examples:• He walked to lunch and then sat down at the table.• She is watching TV while doing her homework.

ANAPHORA

• Anaphora- the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of every successive clause or verse

• Examples:• “It was the best of times, it was the

worst of times.” –Charles Dickens• “We shall fight on the beaches, we shall

fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender.”-Winston Churchill
