Snakes Lunch

Snakes need energy from food to survive. They eat rats, rabbits, and eggs.

4

When snakes eat eggs, they eat the whole thing and later they throw up the shell.

5

Most snakes eat about thirty meals a year. Snakes swallow their prey head first.

6

A certain snake hunts crocodiles. Anacondas squeeze their prey until it stops breathing.

7

What Do Snakes Do?

Some snakes have as many as 1,000 bones. A snake is a reptile with stretchy skin between its scales.

8

Snakes can have more than two hundred sharp teeth called fangs. Snakes molt.

9

How do Snakes Move?

Snakes use scutes to move. A sidewinder moves forward by tossing its body sideways.

10

Some snakes jump of branches and flatten their bodies so they’ll fall safely.

11

Sidewinders sling their bodies sideways to move on the desert floor,

Not blinking when a distraction happens.

Anacondas squeeze their enemies until they stop breathing.

Keen sense of smell from their tongue to help them track food.

Eggs are not protected by all snakes.

12

Molt-A snake hits its nose against a rock then slithers out of its old skin.

Reptile-An animal that has dry scales and tough skin. The environment alters a reptile’s temperature.

Scutes-Snakes have large scales on their belly that help them move.
