Millar College of the Bible /// Winter 2017
Staying Connected
By Matthew Willems
In the midst of a cold Saskatchewan winter, Missions Conference was able to warm all of those who attended with song, drama, and challenging messages. The weekend started off Thursday evening with the bringing together of various missions representatives and dorm halls for small group gatherings. These meetings were a great opportunity for discussion and for students to ask questions of representatives from a large variety of back-grounds. Gord Sawatzky led the Friday and Saturday sessions, challenging those in attendance to “glorify God’s name, to build His kingdom, and to reconcile a lost world to Him.”
New to this year’s Missions Conference was the addition of small group discussions and panel discussions, which took place on Friday and Saturday afternoons and covered an assortment of topics. This provided attendees an opportunity to dive into more specific areas of interest. Saturday evening’s marketplace was
highlighted by Brian McConaghy’s challenging
presentation on his work with those caught in human trafficking in Cambodia and the third world market that took place
afterward. The call to be Christ’s
ambassadors both near and abroad was a good
challenge for all.
PAMBRUN
MissionsConference
By Jaclyn Loewen
My outlook on the world is often pigeonholed: when I consider the nations, the people are blurred and faceless shadows. This is why Missions Focus is invaluable to me. The missionaries who participate in Missions Focus give faces to the lost. The stories of these believers enable us to see the needs of the world in a way many of us have never experienced before. Nameless constructs are vividly replaced by the reality of men and women with a personality, a past, and a story of their own.
When the lost are a number, apathy is easy to embrace, but through the testimony of the missionaries who speak at Missions Focus, these people become more than a statistic. Through the testimony of the missionaries, the lost we so often hear about become, to us, living and breathing people who are made in the image of God and sought after by Him. Whether or not we experience a distinct call to foreign missions during the conference, Missions Focus draws us to see the lost everywhere with a right perspective and directs us to see our need for God to help us love the perishing world with an urgency that moves us to action.

Missions Focus
By Adam Nicholas
I hope that you have been able to hear about how God worked
in amazing ways through Missions Conference 2017. As you
would expect, God’s power was felt through the conference
speakers, as well as through the various activities that took
place over the weekend. One other aspect of the conference
weekend that needs to be shared for God’s glory is the financial
gifts that were given for the Special Fundraising Project. This year’s project
was the Doulos Bible School in Burkina Faso. In 2016, the school experienced
violent attacks and security had to be increased. These attacks also prevented
their crops from being planted and harvested, causing a major loss of income
for their students and financial difficulty for the school itself. There was great
uncertainty regarding whether or not the school would be able to operate until
the end of 2017. The Pambrun campus felt led to direct the first $8,000 given
through the financial gifts to the Doulos Bible School. With a budgeted expense
of $11,000 for Pambrun’s conference, this meant that $19,000 was prayerfully
targeted to cover both goals. The total gifts given through the Pambrun
conference were $19,430. Praise be to God!
Jude Klassen Second Year – Langley, BC
This year at Millar, God has constantly been teaching me to trust Him with everything, including my future and my calling. I have been reminded again and again that God
doesn’t expect me to figure out the course of my life. What He does expect is my obedience and for me to keep pursuing Christ daily. He promises in Psalm 37:23 to sort out the details. I have finally started to understand that a calling into ministry is much more simple than it sounds. It means serving Jesus in whatever situation I find myself in and keeping an open ear to how God might want to use me today. I’ve learned through my classes that the best examples in the Bible of God’s servants were men and women who faithfully did what God led them to do, regardless of how they felt about it. They served out of obedience, not aspiration, and God expects me to do the same.

TestimonySTUDENT
Matthew ToewsFirst Year – Saskatoon, SK
This year God is showing me that my pride has no place in His plans and that I am valuable, not because of what I do or what I portray, but because I am made in His image. He is also revealing to me that fear is the opposite of trusting Him. I continue to be overwhelmed by God’s greatness, demonstrated in the way He wrote the Bible, and am blown away by the realization that the same God who has the power to create the universe is also able to care for each person. God is completely trustworthy with my entire
life because there is no one who loves me like He does. God is showing me how He feels about each one of His children rebelling and has given me a heart for the lost more than ever before. My life needs to be much more focused on building God’s kingdom rather than my own.

CORE VALUE:
By Chris Brown
One of our core values as a college is family and honest inquirers are sometimes surprised to find it listed along with our other core values. Let me explain why it belongs there. God designed us for community! In fact, Christian community reflects the very nature of our Triune God and is meant to be a powerful testimony to the world (John 17:20-26). As members of the household of God (Eph. 2:19)
we should think of each other as family and continue meeting together for mutual encouragement and motivation (Heb. 10:24-25).
Meeting together happens quite naturally here because Pambrun is pretty small. Students live in dorms together, attend class together, go to chapel together, eat meals together and minister together on various teams. As a student ten years ago, I also loved the fact that I could walk down the street and watch a Flames game with my Church History professor or play Settlers of Catan at the president’s house! It truly is a unique community, and it doesn’t take long before you feel like part of the family. Spiritual growth doesn’t just happen in the classroom, and many students will attest to the powerful effect that the Christian community here has had on their life. This shouldn’t be surprising because God never intended for us to walk the Christian journey alone. We need each other and that is what Millar’s core value of family is meant to reflect.

Greetings from Millar College of the Bible − Pambrun and Sunnybrae! Thank you for your interest and care for the ministry of the college.
Our vision is to develop passionate, relevant servants of Jesus Christ who are shaped by the entire Scriptures. In light of furthering the fulfillment of this vision, we believe that God is leading us to start a Graduate Program under Millar College of the Bible. It is in its initial planning stages, but will be designed to offer a Master’s Degree that will focus on helping people in vocational ministry to deepen their knowledge of the Word of God and provide practical tools to further encourage and equip them in serving the Lord! I am also pleased to introduce the Graduate Program Director – Dr. Daryl Kroeker. He will be taking the lead as
we seek to get this program underway. This is a preliminary announcement and more details will be forthcoming in the months ahead. We covet your prayers for this process. As when God led us to start the campus at Sunnybrae, we only want to move forward with an open hand to God’s leading.
God bless you,
Phil Ruten, PRESIDENT
A NEW INITIATIVEGRADUATE PROGRAM
