Climate

Minnesota has a cool weather. It is always cold except for June, July, and August , where it can get to 73 F. There is lots of snow and a short summer, but i t also has al l four seasons. The moderat ing ef fect of Lake Superior keeps the surrounding area relat ively cooler in the summer and relat ively warmer in the winter.

State Symbols

Minnesota's state bird is the common loon. It can be found al l over Minnesota. The loon can weight up to 12 pounds as an adul t and as a baby it weights 1 pound. i t is smal ler than a goose but bigger than a mal lard.

The Norway pine t ree is the state t ree of Minnesota. It is the state t ree of MN because it was the biggest red pine t ree in 1850's. It measured up to 126 feet al l and was 38 inches wide. It existed in the coniferous forests , in the northeastern part of Minnesota.

The state f lower of Minnesota is the pink and white lady's sl ipper. It was chosen as the state f lower of MN because it was the most beaut iful and symbol ical f lower in Minnesota. It can l ive up to 50 year and can be found in fens, swamps, bogs, and damp woods where there is an abundance of l ight .

Geography

Minnesota borders Canada, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota. It has 7 mayor rivers and 8 major lakes plus it borders, Lake Superior, one of the Major lakes. Minnesota is the second northernmost U.S. state, af ter Alaska. It shares a water border with Michigan and Wisconsin. Minnesota covers 86,943 square miles, making it the 12th largest of the 50 states. 83,574 square miles of Minnesota are land areas and the 7,326 square miles lef t over are covered by water.

Natural Resources

Iron ore, manganese, granite l imestone, sandstone, forests of jack, Norway t rees, aspen, balsam, spruce, white birch, groves of ash, black walnut , elm,and maple, oak, are some of the natural resources that you can f ind in Minnesota. MN. is a leading producer of corn. Corn is the state's most valuable crop fal lowed by soybeans. The leading vegetable crops are peas, potatoes, and sweet corn. Minnesota also produces hay, wheat , barley, f lax-seed, and oats.

Famous People

Christopher Michael Prat t known as, "Chris Prat t ," was born in June 21, 1979, in Virginia, Minnesota. Chris Prat t is an American actor. He is known for his television roles, including The Lego Movie, Jurassic Park, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Robert Al len Zimmerman known as, "Bob Dylan," was born in May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota. Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter, art ist and writer. He has been inf luent ial in popular music and cul ture for more than 5 decades.

Animals Minnesota has many kinds of animals that are so cool . It has the didelphimorphs which is an opossum. It also has rodents, lagomorphs, insect ivores, bats, carnivorans, and ariodactyls. Various carnivorans are t igers, spot ted hyena, Af rican civet , brown bears, gray wol f , and wolverine.Some examples of rodents are, squirrels, beavers, gophers, pocket mice, and jumping mice. These animals are some of the found in Minnesota.
