Chaos in the USBike Safety

When it comes to biking, bike safety is very important. Everyday and everywhere, children get injured on their bikes, not realizing they aren’t using the proper biking precautions. Younger kids need more protection, which is why they need knee pads, elbow pads, helmets, and especially adult supervision. For older kids, a helmet is the main thing they should wear. They might already wear their helmets, but most of them just stick it on to their head, rather than taking the time to make sure that the helmet is properly secured. The helmet strap should be adjusted to fit their head so that it lies flat and meets under the ear forming a “v” shape. The chin strap should fit snugly under the chin without dangling loosely. Before placing the helmet on your head, check for cracks, dents, or any damage on the helmet, as the wreckage may cause problems to the helmet.

Biking is lots of fun, but you still need protection. The most serious injuries occur on your head, so a helmet is always handy. Other than wearing a helmet, adult supervision is required until they are responsible enough to ride on their own. Adults help children if they fall or get hurt and they also teach children the rules of the road. Another good idea to help keep safe is to focus on what’s in front of you, and wear bright colors so that drivers can see you and know that they have to slow down. Make sure to bike safely, and enjoy the ride!

One Direction, Justin Bieber, Demi Lavato; all popular singers of 2013. But, where did these rock stars begin? How’d they get discovered?

YouTube is a site many people are familiar with. It’s also a site for talent agent’s main source to find soon-to-be rock stars. Justin Bieber was discovered from his videos on YouTube.

X Factor is another major root for many different pop singers and dancers. Once Direction was discovered from X Factor, as well as Demi Lavato.

How to play:This game is played with 2 players. Each player will need a pen, pencil,

crayon, or marker (every player needs a different color). Players will take turns adding lines to the grid. You may go horizontal or vertical. Diagonal lines are not allowed. When a player makes four lines in the shape of a square it is called a box. The purpose of the game is to have the most boxes in the end.

TOYS: Friend or Foe?Most people never think twice about buying their child a

toy. But, next time, choose wisely, because that one toy may turn out to hurt your young one in ways never imagined.

Lots of toys that are available for purchase are fine and don’t cause harm, but some specific ones contain a poisonous chemical called lead. If swallowed, lead can affect a child’s brain to develop improperly, which, in turn, affects their body growth. Other toys which can cause damage to a child’s brain or body, are magnets, sharp toys, and a couple more. Help your child by double-checking the toys before buying them.

Kaitin’s Advice ColumnChange is different for every person.

Some think of it as a painful obstacle in their life; others, not so much. But, for those of you who don’t think so high of it, I’m here to help.

The first thing you should at least attempt to do is deal with it. To freak out over something silly- not worth it. To freak out over something life changing- that’s different. Look for the good in the change, stay optimistic. Finding the good will help you keep calmer, and focus on other, more important things. Another helpful thing you can try to do is to avoid thinking of it as much as possible. Though there may be nothing you can do to stop change, there’s always a way you can move on.

Change is only temporary. Happiness should last forever.

Creativity Sparks

The hardest part in writing is finding a topic. There are many times when you just can’t seem to come up with a topic. Although you might not know it, inspiration is actually really easy to find. Ideas can come from just looking out the window or writing random things on a piece of paper. Writing involves lots of thinking but inspiration is the key to professional writing. If you’re stuck trying to find what to write about, all you have to do is find inspiration.

There are many ways to get inspired. For example, using a piece of paper and pencil write down as many words as you can, then go back and look at each one carefully, take one word and base your topic off of it. Nature is a great way to come up with a topic. Go outside and look at everything around you. Find something to inspire you, and then write about it. Inspiration is going to be heading your way.

Art GalleryA game for 2 players.Directions: Take out a piece of paper, a pencil, and a folder for each player. Find a space which is large enough for both player to have their own privacy. One person thinks of 5-6 words (Example: city, sun, park, cake, door), and then tells the other person the words they thought of. That player writes down the words for future reference. Then, the next player does the same thing for the person who went first. After writing down all the words for the players, set up a station for you and your opponent. Each station consists of: a pencil and a paper with a folder stood up (for privacy). Players then get to work. To do so, they must draw a scene, which incorporates each of the words they have been given. In the end, the players compare their drawings to see the silliness and the creativity in their artwork.

Cooking With AmintaCraving the sweet taste of banana bread? Here’s a delicious

flour• 1/8 teaspoon ground

cinnamon• 1 tablespoon butter

Directions:• Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190

degrees C). Using a muffin pan, lightly grease 10 muffin cups, or line with muffin papers.

• Take out a large bowl, mix together 1 1/2 cups flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, beat together bananas, sugar, egg and melted butter. Stir the banana mixture into the flour mixture just until moistened. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups.

• Using a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and cinnamon. Cut in 1 tablespoon butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Sprinkle the topping over muffins.

• Bake in preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of a muffin comes out clean.

Fun IdeasLaser Tag is fun, but expensive. Why drive 10 miles to play for 30 minutes, when you can play for free at your own home? Just gather 10 people, and you can get started! Here’s how:Materials:• A large, open area• 45 sheets of paper (cut into ¼ size) • Pen• 10 full spray bottles• One-gallon bottle filled with water

Directions:Gather all the people and materials needed for this game. Give one of the spray bottles to each person. This will be used as your “laser” in the game, so make sure each one is fully filled with water. On each person tape one sheet of paper to the front of their shirt. Write down ‘1’ onto every paper on each person. Set up the pieces of paper and the pen in a corner or a place which is hard to get to. Place the gallon-sized bottle of water next to the papers.

How to Play:Each player must spray their opponents on to their sheet of paper. If someone’s paper gets wet, they must drop their ‘laser’ and change the piece of paper. On the piece of paper, they should write down the number of which the paper is (Ex.: Kelsey is on her 3rd piece of paper; she must write down ‘3’). The object of the game is to be the person who has went through the least amount of papers. 9
