Why do we read to someone?It helps us to become better readers.This is the best way to practice fluency.It is fun!

Check for Understanding This is a comprehension strategy to

monitor the meaning of what you are reading.

One partner reads out loud, one holds a checkmark.Read to the end of the paragraph/page.Partner with the checkmark says, “I just heard

you read….” They will be checking for understanding of what was read.

How to Choose a Partner

•Raise your hand as a silent signal that you need a partner.

•Make eye contact with someone else who has his or her hand raised.

•Walk over to that person and say, “Do you want to be my partner?”

•The partner will say, “Sure.”

Coaching or Time•If your partner comes to a word they don’t know, you should:

• Count silently to 3• Ask, “Do you want

• If coaching, use clues to help your partner

• If time, sit patiently and wait.
