Intro to Health ScienceWe would like to introduce you to health

science!Health Science is not just science handling

health issues but it is a career field in today’s world.

The occupations in health science are growing rapidly; many careers in this field are in demand of healthcare professional.

There are many different types of jobs in this field of work; however, we have got it narrowed down to three specific areas that each one of us is pursing.

Sports Medicine Facts•Sports medicine is the study and practice of medical principles related to the science of sports.

•The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine(AMSSM) was organized in 1991 to recognize the need for the field of sports medicine that approached athletes and exercising individuals.

•One of the earliest practitioners of sports medicine was the Greek physician Herodicus, who developed therapeutic diets and exercise regimes for athleticism the 5th century B.C.

•The term "sports medicine" was coined in 1928, when 33 team physicians attending the Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland, met to establish the International Assembly on Sports Medicine.

•A common misconception is that sports medicine physicians are orthopedic surgeons, the main difference between the two specialties is that sports medicine physicians focus on the non-surgical aspects of athlete care. Orthopedic surgeons focus on the surgical treatment of injuries.•The median expected salary for a typical

Physician in Sports Medicine in the United States is $239,607.

•A sports medicine physician is a specialized trainer who promotes lifelong fitness and wellness, and encourages prevention of illness and injury.

•The physician is the leader of the sports medicine team,which also includes specialty physicians and surgeons,athletic trainers, and physical therapists.

Pharmacy factsPharmacist review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain

the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.Pharmacist also assess the identity, strength and purity of

medications.Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles,

charge system files, inventories, control records for radioactive nuclei, and registries of poisons, narcotics, and controlled drugs.

Also pharmacist provide specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, or high blood pressure.

Nature of work: PharmacyPharmacists are health practitioners who specialize in

dispensing drugs prescribed by physicians. Pharmacists must understand the composition of medicines, as

well as the laws that regulate their manufacture and sale. They order and store medicines, keeping them safe, pure, and

effective. They are required by law to maintain records of the drugs they

handle.Daily activities:

Dispense medicationsAnswering phone callsFace-to-face conversationsEntering work related documents into the computer.Keep work station tidy.

Pharmacy & EducationEducational requirements:

Pharmacists must attend a college accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

To enter a Pharmacy degree program, Pharmacy students must take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT).

Completing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree program usually takes about six years of education after high school. 

Some of the required college courses are: Math Molecular biology Chemistry Biology Physics Humanities
